Chapter 2
The Holy Knights
"You know what...I hate this ship! Nay I despise it! It feels like I've been on if for weeks!" Silver sighed walking down the halls.
She then heard a loud explosion...the sound of screams and slicing noises. There was an odd smell coming from the area as if the metal on the ship and wiring was slowly starting to short-out,
"Well I guess the screams and slicing noises are from Zoki... so I suppose I'll follow the first explosion," Silver said running into the direction she heard it from.
I must be close to the hatch by now!" Silver sighed, she then looked at her soundings before scratching her head.
"...I think I have been going up instead of down, damn wish I knew my way around maybe I should have paid attention during the tour," Silver then looked out a window, the giant battleship had stopped moving, most likely due to the recent power outage.
"...Is that Richard and the others?" Silver eyes narrowed as she looked down at the scene. It seemed somehow that they managed to get off of the ship without her help. Which was shocking considering the sheer amount of stuff that was happening.
Silver eyes narrowed as she continued to look. There was a blond haired man to him, he was about a regular build as he had what appeared to be a rapier, he didn't seem like he was hostile.
"Well, no need to keep the masses waiting!" Silver then stepped back until she hit a wall, at that point, she ran as fast as she could and crashed through the window.
Was this action necessary? For Silver yes, was this work smart? Silver thought it was at first...until she realized that glass is sharp. Did Silver land gracefully? That depends on your definition of graceful, if your definition of elegant is landing on your toes and doing a beautiful pose then no, if your definition of it is falling flat on your face and almost breaking your nose then she nailed it.
"...ow," Silver said with her face in the dirt.
"Silver are you alright?" Mai said running to her side.
Silver then lifted her head and rubbed her face. "You know in retrospects that weren't a very smart idea.
"...Is this one of your friends Richard?" the blond man asked as Richard scoffed.
"No, just an annoying rat," Richard replied.
"Wow even when I could be in critical condition you still have something smart to say." Silver replied.
"I think that's enough chit-chat; the enemy will most likely try to follow us, so I suggest we leave this area. The ship is currently lost, and I wouldn't be surprised if all of my men were killed...how sad," Verm said that as if he was talking about a missed appointment.
"Who were those guys that attacked us?" Silver asked as Sara grumbled.
"They were apart of the church it seems like, and knowing that monsters were there it was probably the Six Warriors of the Church..."
"Six warriors of the church…?"
"They are supposed to be my personal guards," Parce added, "they serve the church as well as me. However lately they have been going against my wishes..."
"Well, that is enough talk, the ship is no longer capable of moving. Everyone who was on it, attackers as well as the staff half to continue on foot, I recommend we leave this area before we get anymore unwanted attention.
"I agree, I'm starting to hate this damned Ship." Silver replied.
The group was now walking along on the dirt road, surrounded but a grassy plain, if they weren't in such a hurry then it would have been a beautiful day to take in all the scenery
"I bet you guys were lost without me!" Silver laughed.
"...Where were you anyway!" Richard yelled at the girl.
"Um, that's classified." Silver smiled, putting her index finger towards the sky, before bobbing her head ever so slightly
"Doing such secretive things on a Military ship, my my I should have kept a better eye on you," Verm said looking at Silver, or much rather glared at her.
"Uh, enough about my boring adventure, what up with the blond dude?" Silver said pointing at the new blond, tagging along with them.
"Oh right, I haven't introduced myself have, I'm Floyd. I'm a friend to Richard" He then shook everyone's hand as Verm rubbed his chin
"You must be from Descijan, did you come here looking for Richard?" Verm asked Floyd, who merely scratched the back of his head.
"Yes, for my personal reasons I knew he went into Slouque territory, I went by land from Hamma, even though Mai's brother sent her I was still kind of concerned..."
At that moment some Church knights appeared, dressed in silver and black, the perfect outfit for the generic soldiers who's individuality was removed as they donned their masks.
"Hmm, it appears that we must battle," Verm said before snapping his finger. I long lance appeared in his hand as Richard grumbled.
"Damn it, how many more of these bastards do we have to kill?"
"You won't get aw-" Before the Knight was able to finish his sentence a familiar hymn could be heard, but the only difference is someone was singing it without any heart in the lyrics as if they were only going through the motions.
"...Um, Mai...is that you?" Silver asked, still wondering what was happening
"Th-that can't be...the sixth hymn!" Mai said in shock, or in sheer disbelief.
Glyphs appeared on the ground, each at the feet of the soldiers, before anyone of them could move, or even scream pillars of light shot down from the sky, turning them into white ash.
"HOLY SHIT!" Silver yelled, her eye twitched before regaining her composure.
"...I already know your there Holy One, no need to hide any longer!" Silver yelled! While the rest of the group just looked at her, as if she was an idiot
"Not bad, but that is to be expected of the daughter of Sasha Kagayaku..." At that moment a woman wearing a mask and all white appeared before them, nothing owned by the Church matched the style of clothing, making ti rather odd to look at.
"...That outfit, you're a part of the Holy Knights aren't you, and from the looks of the attack you're a siren," Silver closed one of her eyes as she pointed out the title of the woman she was talking to.
"So you know my title, not bad but unfortunately I'm not here for you demon." She then looked at Parce, even if her eyes weren't visible, she was giving off a murderous intent.
"I would rather avoid needless bloodshed, so if you could hand over the Grand Priest, I will be on my way..." The masked woman said, bluntly, but she probably already knew the response to such a request.
"Why do you need Parce?" Mai asked as the woman shrugged.
"So I can kill him, simple as that, but knowing all of you, you aren't going to let that happen without a fight..." The masked woman remarked while getting in a fighting stance, her knives clenched between her fingers
"No need for that." Silver smiled, as she lifted her hand.
"Oh? So I guess you're going to talk me down?" The masked woman replied.
"Well surely you must know of my power and even though I don't know if I can beat you by myself, I'm pretty sure you don't know that either. Plus if we both go all out this area may be damaged beyond repair. I doubt you want the situation to escalate to that point do you?"Silver noted this fact as the Songstress sighed.
The masked woman then put her staff away, "To be honest I wasn't expecting to encounter a demon here, that alone escalates this situation."
The masked woman then turned her back to the party, as if she knew any course of action from this point would be meaningless.
"I will gladly let you go for now, but be warned next time we meet I will not be alone, next time be prepared to face the real power of the Holy Knights!"
And with that the masked Woman vanished in a flash of light, leaving not even a trace of her existence.
"Silver what was that about?" Verm asked though he was probably calculating the probabilities
"...I am sorry, but that is classified information." Silver replied, with a large smile as Richard glared at her.
"But If they want Parce then don't we have a right know!" Richard yelled.
"Well to put it bluntly, not it has something to do with my home and even if I told you I doubt you would understand, now let's get going!" Silver yelled trying to change the subject.
The group only stared at the demon girl, who was breaking out in a cold sweat, anyone would if they were put in such a situation.
"That's not good enough this time, who was that woman?" Mai replied not letting Silver talk herself out of the situation.
"I said don't worry about it, I mean we all have secrets why do you want to know mine so badly?" Silver asked.
"True we all have secrets...but most of them doesn't involve endangering our lives." Verm pointed out as Silver slumped her shoulders
"Okay, Okay I will tell you a little bit of info, but after that, I really can't speak too much about it." Silver then cleared her throat, as of she was about to say something important.
"The woman we just saw was a part of the seven Holy Knights, they are warriors from a neighboring area from where I come from, they do missions and secure peace..." Silver then stared at Parce.
"If Parce is their target, he must have done something to disrupt the peace," Silver said.
"How can you say something like that! Parce hasn't done anything to provoke an attack; these knights are the ones in the wrong." Sara replied, as of she was offended at the accusation.
"...I wouldn't go that far; my cousin is the leader of the Knights, and I know for a fact that she wouldn't allow an attack on an innocent person." Silver pointed out as Parce closed his eyes as if he was trying to come up with a thought.
"Please Silver, if you don't mind I would like to talk to your cousin," Parce said as Silver gave an enormous sigh
"Parce, I'm you're a nice person and all, but I don't think walking into a death trap is the smartest thing..." Silver said.
"Well, I must have done something to upset them if it is truly a misunderstanding then avoiding it is pointless." Parce replied.
He was too nice for his own good; Parce was the type of person who tried to solve problems with nonviolent solutions, too dangerous the world around them was in a constant state of violence.
"Fine, I will see what I can do, but don't expect anything big." Silver sighed, as she rubbed her shoulders.
"...Very well." Mai said apparently not satisfied with that answer.
"Well, what are we waiting for?! Let's get going!" Silver smiled, trying her best to put the situation in the back of her head.
"If the Holy Knights are here, that can't be good at all. Not only that but Zoki was here as well and from the looks of it, this world doesn't know demons exist...Why are they even bothering with this place?"
The rather large group walked through the field as the finally arrived at their destination. "So this is Amidon...not bad." Silver said looking around, at the small town, one could argue that it was merely for military purposes, but then it being small would make even less sense. The buildings in the area were made up of graystone and only a few local jobs scattered around the area. In fact, there weren't that many civilians in the area. It seemed it was closer to a military base that happened to house people than anything else.
"To be honest, I'm rather surprised that there was no Church Knights guarding this area," Verm said, as Silver gave a light shrug.
"...Really? It doesn't surprise me that much since how many of them were killed on the Gallimimus they probably didn't have enough people to send over here," Silver replied, not realizing she was giving away valuable information or at least information she shouldn't be telling other people
"Now? Tell me who was responsible for their deaths?" Verm asked, once again the necromancer didn't miss a beat,
"Uh...classified?" Silver said not being sure herself.
"You know you sure do keep a lot of secrets..." Richard said as he cut his eye towards the demon girl.
"Hey! This time, it isn't even my secret, but I can tell you who they were, one was my friend, most likely she was looking for Parce,"
"Your friends and family sure are a secretive bunch, aren't they," Floyd crossed his arms as Silver sighed.
It wasn't that Silver was secretive, but the fact there would be no point in telling humans about anything from her world, Silver doubted they would understand.
"Yeah yeah, but enough pointless dribble, why are we even here?" Silver pumped her fist as Verm sighed.
"We need to check something here; I doubt the church would be willing to cause a scene at a Slouque military base " Verm stated.
"Try not to do anything to draw the attention of the Church Knights," Mai reminded the young teen.
"Come on Mai I think he's smart enough to know that." Silver replied.
"I'm just making sure." Mai then looked at Richard.
"I know! Sheesh, I'm not an idiot."Richard replied though it was probably hard for anyone to believe that.
The group then began to walk to the base when Silver stopped dead in her tracks, as the rest of the team looked back at her.
"What's wrong?" Mai asked.
"Oh nothing, I just realized how much I hate boring military talk, so I think I will just explore the city," Silver then smiled, as Mai nodded.
"Okay but like I said before try not to attract any attention," Mai said walking away with the group.
Silver then sighed and started to walk around the city of blue and brown, with a hint of gold, it was evident that was the color of the nation's flag or something, but she did wish there was more variety. She looked around seeing the general layout of the city, but what she noticed the most was the fact a lot of the people that lived here had blond hair.
"Weird, maybe it's because they're from Slouque, I guess I shouldn't question human looks that much, I mean most of them don't even have red eye's!" Sara then shivered.
The most common eye color for demons was red, black and yellow. Silver's eye color wasn't blue; she simply wore colored contacts so she would look more human, though she thought about taking them out since Verm had red eyes, and while rare, they didn't seem unheard of in this world.
Silver then noticed a small notebook on the ground, why would anyone leave a random book on the field is anyone's question, and why Silver would pick it up is a good question as well, one should be glad it is not filled with debauchery.
"...I wonder what this is?" Silver then picked it up and started to read it, her eyes widened as she realized something amazing while reading. It was a regular cookbook, or rather a cooking journal.
"So that's how you make a sandwich..." Silver said in shock, her hands shacking in anticipation.
Silver wasn't the best cook...calling what she does cooking would be wrong, due to her wealth she always ate out instead of making food plus she lives alone so no one taught her.
"No wonder I have been finding glass in my food, I better keep this as a reference!" With those words, Silver put the book in an invisible pocket, that for some reason could hold an entire book.
"...Having fun?" Verm asked with the rest of the group behind him.
"Oh... you guys are done already?" Silver asked, with a hint of disappointment in her voice.
"Well yes, it wasn't a very long meeting," Verm added, as Silver shrugged.
"Okay, what's the next location?" Silver asked.
"It's Seel," Mai stated in her familiar tone, as Silver's eye twitched.
"...Hey guy's can you take two steps away from me?" Silver asked with a smile as Richard cocked an eye.
"Why?" Richard stated, confused at the random request.
"Oh just do it! You shouldn't question every little thing!" Silver replied.
The group shrugged and stepped away from Silver.
At that very moment a knife came flying out of nowhere aimed at Silver's heart, she easily dodged, the weapon and quickly ducked right before a teenage boy with brown hair kicked her neck, he then jumped back, as he stretched, without a care in the world.
"Wow, you managed to dodge it that time!" The boy smiled he looked about seventeen. He wore a black jacket with a blue undershirt.
"Well you hit me dead on three times with it, always the same, throw the knife towards the heart and break the opponents neck afterward." Silver replied with a sigh, obviously irritated with the boys actions.
"Oh, maybe I should change it up?" He snickered picking up his knife from the ground.
"Enough of this! Who are you?" Mai asked in a battle position, her eye dull.
"Hey now, don't get so hasty, even in the position that you're in I could have killed you thirteen time's already," the boy stared at Mai with red eyes, his smile not wavering one bit.
"He's a friend of mine, and his name is Katto Dao, an assassin from my hometown." Silver replied with a smile; she seemed a little too happy about having a killer as a friend.
"A-assassin!" Richard yelled backing up, stuttering slightly.
"Yep I killed a whole bunch of people, but I got bored with that so I just do missions, but please don't leave yourselves wide open then I have to kill you," Katto laughed, as he closed one of his eyes.
"So what brings you here? First Zoki and now you," Silver asked, as the killer shrugged.
"Oh just doing something for my client," Katto replied, not caring about what he just said.
"May I ask who your customer is?" Verm asked.
"I'm sorry, but that's, hush, hush you know," Katto replied
"Not like it matters, knowing him he probably is going to kill him later anyway." Silver added.
"Yeah I am once he starts to bore me, plus he's an ass." Katto shrugged.
"Hey, Katto where you headed anyway?" Silver asked.
"Oh, just some place called Seel nothing special," Katto replied.
"Well we're headed there as well, why don't you come with us?" Silver had smiled before the rest of the group gave her a glare.
"What?" Silver asked, not finding any problem with the request.
"You want to take a serial killer with us!" Richard yelled one would think he would keep his mouth shut about these things.
"Oh come on he isn't that bad, plus you have to admit he's the most laid-back killer you ever seen." Silver laughed.
"That is true..." Floyd added, not helping Richard's cause in any way.
Silver tapped her lip, thinking about it, they had every reason not to want Katto to go, considering everything that happened up to this point. She doubted Katto was hired by the Holy Knights considering they preferred to work with only their own species.
"Well regardless, we are heading through Mayweather River, from there we can reach the checkpoint and enter Descijan. Hopefully, we will be able to sort this entire mess out by the time we go there.
"I highly doubt that." Richard sighed, it was clear that he was fed up with all the weird crap that was going on.
Silver and Katto snickered and looked at one another,"they are so caught up in their war that they barely even notice us," Silver whispered.656Please respect copyright.PENANA6EB3p1pPQN
"What do you expect, they are humans plus it will be fun to have another demon to talk to...even if it's just you," Katto replied.
"What does that mean?" Silver was raising her voice.
"Oh nothing, shall we get going, I doubt we want to be left behind," Katto smiled as he followed the rest of the group as they exited the small military town and onto the dirt roads.
"Before we go, I must warn you about the Mayweather River; it has toxins seeping out of the ground. It is a natural spring, however, but sometimes natural shifts may result in an earthquake causing the standard steam to turn into a thick miasma," Verm said that as if there wasn't anything wrong, as Mai sighed.
"I do appreciate you tell us at all, but I wished you would have spoken sooner, we may have been able to buy some equipment..."
"Oh...I must have forgotten..."
"You didn't forget at all," Floyd's eyes narrowed as the group made their way to the river.
