"Do you have everything packed so we can hit the road?" Juniper asked me after I zipped up my suitcases.
"Yep. I still can't believe i'm going away to some Faerie Academy." I said then sighed as I crossed my arms.
"Look on the bright side," He started.
I raised my eyebrows at Juniper. There was a bright side to being shipped off to a mysterious Faerie school that I know nothing about? I stood there and waited for Juniper to tell me what the bright side to this whole thing is. He sighed.
"You have unbelievable powers that others wish they had."
Did he mean humans? Does my mom still have supernatural powers that I don't know about? I continued to stare at Juniper, waiting for the REAL bright side to this whole situation. That's when Juniper shook his head and rolled his eyes.
"You'll learn at Orientation."
Knock. Knock.
I looked towards my bedroom door and watched my mom come into my bedroom with a bowl of what must be my snacks for the road. I smiled. I'm lucky to have my mom. I really don't know what i'll do without her. We only have each other and i'm still not sure that I should be leaving home to attend some school that I STILL know nothing about. Will it be selfish of me to leave? Mom said I should go but i'm not sure if I should go.
"I know that the school will be providing food for you but I feel like you should eat this when you get hungry." She said then handed me the bowl.
I took the bowl from her and opened up the top to look inside. The bowl consisted of a baloney sandwich with plain Lays chips and chocolate chip cookies that we both baked a few nights ago. I closed the bowl and looked at my mom, smiling. I really didn't want to get teary eyed right now. Especially in front of Juniper. I don't know him that well and he could very well go back and tell some of his Faerie friends that a Freshman at Faerie Academy cried when he said his goodbyes.
"Thanks mom. You really didn't have to."
Then, Juniper flew over to me and sniffed the bowl.
"Mmm. You gonna share some of those cookies?" He asked.
I looked at Juniper and shot daggers at him till he backed off. Then I turned to my mom and gave her a big hug. She wrapped her arms around me and hugged me back. I buried my face into her shoulder length dark brown hair and took a whiff of her scent. She smelled like Cookies and Flowers. I was definitely going to miss this smell.
Then, to ruin the moment, Juniper had to clear his throat to interrupt.
"Sorry to interrupt but we should get going. Traffic is going to be terrible."
I sighed in annoyance then pulled away from my mom. I stared into her brown eyes and smiled softly.
"I gotta go. I'll be sure to call tonight if I can." I said to her.
My mom nodded then cupped my face into her hands and kissed my forehead. She pulled me into another big hug before pulling away and wiped away a single tear. Oh god. I really didn't want to see my mom crying. To be honest, it's really breaking my heart. I can't say that me and my mom are total best friends since that'll be weird to say but I guess you can say that i'm a total mama's boy. I love my mom and I don't know what i'll do without her.
I know that we're promising each other to call and write or whatever but it won't be the same. I won't be able to wake up and crawl into bed with her whenever I have nightmares. Okay. I used to do that a lot when I was younger but now whenever I have nightmares, mom would brew up some tea for me and we'll both stay up and watch tv till I fall asleep in her arms. And i'll definitely miss her home cooking. It's the best and it makes you want seconds.
"Yo. Let's go, Stiyl." Juniper piped up.
I gritted my teeth. I can already see the little anime vein at the top of my forehead. When we get to the school, i'm seriously going to hurt Juniper. I don't know about him but it's not easy to just leave your parent that you've been with since you were born and never had a dad or any siblings around.
I sighed then turned to my suitcases on my bed. I opened up my book bag and shoved the bowl into it then closed it back up and pulled it onto my back. I picked up my two suitcases and turned to Juniper.
"I'm ready."
Juniper smiled and nodded. He then turned to my closet and held out his hand. His hand started to glow a bright blue color. Instantly, a dark hole started to appear in front of my closet and it progressed to show a worm hole with a blue aura around it. I blinked my eyes, surprised. I couldn't believe he actually made a worm hole appear.
"So...i'm guessing the school isn't just a car ride away?" I questioned.
Juniper turned to me and shook his head, smiling.
"It's a dimension away. It's still in the same time zone as the human world but the school is in a different world. You can only access it by magic. That's why the school has been kept safe for all these decades." He explained.
I nodded, intrigued.
"You'll get to learn more about the school at Orientation. We better go, though."
"Hey, wait. You mentioned traffic, though." I spoke up.
"Yeah. There's a lot of traffic when going through dimensions." He explained.
I shrugged and nodded then looked at my mom and smiled before stepping towards the worm hole. I first watched Juniper go through it. I stood there, feeling nervous. Then, I squeezed my eyes tight and stepped through the hole. Once I've gone through it, I slowly opened up my eyes and was surprised to see what was in front of me. Faerie Academy was this huge castle with wide open areas around it. It looks like a normal castle but something about it gave off that magical feel to it.
"There's a courtyard and behind the school is where one of the teachers hold magic practice everyday. You'll get to learn more about that at Orientation. Let's go inside and find your dorm room." Juniper said then started to fly towards the castle doors.
"You couldn't teleport us inside my dorm room?" I asked as I quickly tried to catch up to him.
"Nope. Sorry." Was all he said.
I sighed then looked over the castle once more before we both headed inside. Once we walked inside (or at least I walked inside), I started to see a bunch of kids running around, trying to find out where to go. They all had suitcases and I noticed that they each had a small Faerie helper like I do. Each of their Faerie helper are of different colors and styles.
"C'mon, don't lag behind." Juniper said then started to fly up the stairs.
I quickly tried to follow after him. "So, what's the deal with you and the other Faerie helpers?"
"The deal is that we help. Hence the name 'helpers'. We stick by you apprentices to make sure you learn your powers. We also provide information to you and whatever else. Each resident has their own helper. Even the second, third and fourth year students." He explained as we walked to the top of the stairs and started down a hallway.
I nodded as I tried to look around the Academy and take in my surroundings.
"So...does that mean each student has this necklace i'm wearing too?"
"Here we are!" Juniper piped up as he stood at a dorm room.
"This is your room. You'll be sharing it with another male student." He said then flew inside.
I walked inside the room and looked around. It looked like a typical dorm room with that magic castle feel to it. I walked over to one of the empty beds that was closest to the closet and set my bags down on the bed. That's when I remembered that Juniper never answered my question about my necklace. I turned to him.
"You never answered my question. Does every student that goes here has this same necklace?" I asked, touching it.
I stared at Juniper, waiting for his answer. He looked like he was hesitating to answer the question. He then started to rub the back of his neck as he stared down at the ground. He opened up his mouth and looked like he was about to say something when a crackling sound was heard and then a male voice came over the intercom.
"Hello, Faerie Academy Students. Orientation will be starting in a few minutes so make sure you quickly find your dorm room. I'm anxious to meet you all." Then the crackling sound was heard again.
"That was Headmaster Crier. He's the most intelligent and powerful man at this school. He founded the school eons ago. I'm sure he'll talk about it at Orientation." Juniper said as he looked at me.
I nodded and wondered if Juniper was going to answer my question.
"We should go and find the Auditorium now." He said then started to fly out of my room.
I sighed then started to follow after him. I guess I won't get to hear his answer.
