- The Faerie council
Okay what? Faeries? Faerie Academy? I don't understand any of this. I just came home from school and saw a box on my bed. It had this letter in it. I've never heard of a Faerie Academy. I didn't know Faeries existed. Should I even tell my mom? What would she think? Is this even a joke? This letter seems pretty legit. I don't know what to do. I could...hide the box and forget about all of this? This has to be a prank by some guys at my school. See, i'm not exactly the most popular guy at school. I'm shy and I normally hide behind my books and drawings. This has to be their doing but the letter looks legit.
I sighed and looked down at the box to see a necklace. It's like a little bottle with sparkly blueish-black stuff in it and there's a cork at the top that connects to a chain to make a necklace. I picked up the necklace and looked it over before putting it around my neck. That's when something weird really happens. A Fairy just appeared before me. It has black hair with different colored streaks in it. It has piercings in its nose and eyebrows and it's wearing a punky outfit. It even looks a little...Asian? This Fairy has to be punk like. I know it's a Fairy because it has blue wings. I stared at the Fairy, not believing my eyes.
"Who are you?" I asked.
The Fairy smiled then spoke, "I'm your Faerie helper, Juniper."
I blinked my eyes then slowly backed away. "What's going on? Who sent me this letter? And this necklace?"
The Fairy continued to smile. "The Headmaster of course. Of Faerie Academy."
I shook my head. "What's this Faerie Academy?"
"It's an Academy where all Faerie's go to learn to control their powers." The Fairy explained.
Then, I burst out laughing. "Powers? I don't have any powers."
The Fairy shook its head. "You do. You just don't know it."
I sighed, knowing that i'm not going to get through to this...Fairy. Or at least this Fairy probably won't leave me alone till I say yes.
"Okay....what if i DID go to this Faerie Academy, what do I do about my mom? She'll think this is more crazy than me."
Then it's the Faerie's turn to laugh. I raised my eyebrows and stared at it like it had two heads.
"You don't know huh? Your mom is a Faerie too. Just like you."
I blinked my eyes, taken back. "No...my mom isn't a Faerie."
The Fairy smirked. "Go ask her."
I quickly shook my head. "No!"
The Fairy then sighed and put its hands on its hips. "You're starting to annoy me."
"Stiyl, are you alright?"
Shit. It's my mom.
"Um...i'm alright!" I said, looking towards the door.
That's when my mom walked in and looked towards to the Fairy next to me then looked towards to the necklace around my neck then to the letter in my hand. Then, she smiled. Okay, this is turning out to be really weird. Why isn't she getting freaked out about seeing the Fairy? I watched my mom close my bedroom door and walk towards me. She looked at me once then looked at the Fairy.
"It's time isn't it Juniper?" She asked.
The Fairy nodded. "Yes, ma'am. The Headmaster requests Stiyl joins us at the Academy."
I looked between my mom and the Fairy. "What's going on...?" Because it seemed weird that my mom knew this Fairy and I don't.
"Honey, you don't know this but...you're a Faerie." Mom announced.
I looked at her, confused. "What do you mean? Does it run in the family?"
Mom nodded. "My family. My mom was a Faerie, her mom was a Faerie. Now you're a Faerie too."
"But...aren't Faerie's supposed to be girls?"
That's when the Fairy cleared its throat. "I beg to differ. I'm a boy." He said, shooting daggers at me but I ignored him.
I sighed. "Whatever. I don't want to go." I said then sat down on my bed.
"Why not? It'll be fun. You get to meet other people just like you." Mom said.
"Plus, you'll have me to help you out." The Fairy said.
"Yippie." I said sarcastically.
"Juniper, when does the Headmaster want Stiyl?" Mom asked.
"By tonight. Tonight is Orientation for Freshman." The Fairy responded.
My mom then looked down at me. "Honey, I know that isn't enough time to think about this but I think you should really go."
I looked at my mom. "What about you? Won't you be lonely?"
I'm currently living with just my mom. I have no siblings and my dad isn't in the picture.
My mom smiled. "I'll be alright. Don't worry about me okay? We can write each other everyday."
I sighed and gave it some thought then I shrugged. "Fine...I'll go to this 'Faerie Academy'."
"Awesome!" The Fairy cheered.
"That's great. Make sure you pack well. I'll pack you a snack in case you get hungry." She said then turned to Juniper. "Thank you so much for coming by, Juniper."
The Fairy shrugged. "It's my pleasure, ma'am."
My mom smiled then left the room.
"Well, it seems like we're partners now."
I shrugged the Fairy off and stood up. I gently touched my necklace.
"I'm...a Faerie now."
"Correction, you've always been a Faerie. You just didn't know it." The Fairy piped up.
I started to shoot daggers at him then rolled my eyes. Yeah, what he said.
