"So, why do you guys think we have this power but nobody else does?" I asked.
Me and my four other new friends were currently sitting in Evie and Nixie's dorm room after lunch. Our Faerie helpers decided to retire for the night so it's just us now.
"I dunno. It's interesting that we're all connected by one necklace." Xander said as he was sitting on Nixie's bed next to her. I was sitting on the floor with Gretchen while Evie stood by the nightstand table.
"Do you think our parents have anything to do with this?" Evie asked.
Gretchen shrugged. "It could be possible. Our parents could've known each other?"
"I don't know. It doesn't seem like our parents would have to know each other in order for us to be connected." I said.
"Doesn't our Faerie helpers know anything?" Nixie asked.
I shrugged. "Juniper was hesitant to tell me that I hold some great power. He's got to know something. What about you guys?"
"I don't know if Lief knows anything. Then again, he's pretty secretive." Xander said.
"I can ask Nai tomorrow if she knows something." Nix said.
"Same with Sissi." Gretchen said.
"Me and Dorrit don't really talk much but I can ask her too." Evie said.
I blinked my eyes in confusion at Evie's response. She doesn't talk to her Faerie helper?
"You don't talk to Dorrit?" I asked.
Evie shrugged. "I guess i'm not into these Faerie helpers like you guys are. I think I can handle myself."
"I dunno. Having Faerie helpers is pretty cool. They're like our own personal little pet." Nix said with a smile.
I shrugged off Evie. No use getting into it with her. I sighed then looked down at my necklace and picked it up.
"It's insane. I guess you can say i'm pretty stoked about Power Control class tomorrow." I said.
"Me too. I can't wait to see what I can do." Gretchen said.
Then, at the door, we heard footsteps and someone clearing their throat. We all turned our heads towards the door to see one of the Upperclassmen.
"It's almost time for bed. Boys, head back to your rooms." She said.
Me and Xander stood up and started to walk towards the door.
"See you guys tomorrow." I said.
Me and Xander started to make our way back towards our room. When we got there, we started to get ready for bed. I pulled on my pjs.
"Do you wish that you were normal?" I eventually asked just to get conversation going and to get to know Xander better.
"No." He answered bluntly.
"How come?"
"Because normal is boring."
I nodded. "Yeah but don't you think normal people would classify you as a freak because of you being a Faerie?"
"I'm already a freak."
I blinked my eyes, taken back by his words. Xander then turned to me and sighed.
"It's complicated okay?" He said, slipping his plain t-shirt over his head.
I nodded and stayed quiet as I watched Xander getting ready for bed. I don't know Xander that well but I have a feeling that his old life sucks.
"So...how do you know Nixie, Evie and Gretchen? We only had a little bit of time earlier before Orientation."
"We all went to the same school."
I raised my eyebrows. "Really?"
Xander nodded as he sat down on his bed, facing me.
The thought seemed a little weird. Then again, there are probably some people here that went to my school too. I just don't know it.
"We should probably go to bed. No use falling asleep during classes tomorrow." He said as he started to get into his bed.
I nodded then took off my necklace when I suddenly felt energy being drained out of me. I had no control over my body as it collapsed onto the floor and my eyes fell close.
"Stiyl!" Xander shouted then got out of bed and ran over to me.
He picked up my necklace then put it back on around my neck. I instantly felt myself getting better. I opened up my eyes and slowly sat up.
"What happened?" I asked.
"I don't know. It's like the energy drained out of you when you took it off." He explained.
I blinked my eyes then looked down at my necklace. "Wow. So...this thing really IS powerful."
Xander nodded. "Too power. It's like our lifeline. Without it, we're goners."
I glanced at Xander. He had a point. A point that I didn't enjoy hearing. If he's right then we're getting ourselves into some serious stuff and I don't know if I can take it. I'm just a kid.
