"Hey guys. I came in to say goodnight." Juniper said as he flew into mine and Xander's room that night before bed.
Ever since Power Control class, I've been thinking about my powers and how powerful they are. I also have been thinking about what Juniper might be hiding from us. He's a Faerie helper that is supposed to be 'helping' us but it's clear that he's not helping us by not telling us what our powers are about. If Juniper is willing to keep something so secretive from the group, especially me, then this secret must be something worth protecting or just keeping a secret. I get that Juniper doesn't want anybody to know about us all but it's not helping if he's trying to keep us in the dark too. We're all teenagers. We can handle ourselves.
I looked up at Juniper. "Hey. I have something to ask of you." I glanced over at Xander who was sitting on his bed. He glanced at me and gave me a small nod, telling me that I need to go ahead and ask Juniper the million dollar question. I sighed and looked at Juniper. I just hope that Juniper will tell me the million dollar answer.
Juniper crossed his arms and nodded. "Sure. Shoot."
It's funny that Juniper doesn't seem to suspect what i'm going to ask him. I thought that he would've already acted nervous and wanted to hurry up and leave but he seems all for to hearing my question. I don't know how i'm going to do this. I wish someone else would ask him but since Juniper's my helper, I have to be the one to ask him the question. What sense does that make?
"U-um...Juniper, it's obvious that you're not telling us what's going on. With our powers, I mean. It's not fair that you're keeping something so big from us. These are OUR powers and it's our duty to learn more about them so we know how to control them." I started speaking.
I watched Juniper as he dropped his arms to his side and sighed.
"Stiyl....I don't know..." Juniper said, rubbing the back of his neck.
I narrowed my eyes at him. I'm tired of Juniper dodging my questions and coming up with excuses and I know exactly how to get him to talk. I wrapped my hand around my necklace. I stared right at Juniper as I yanked my necklace off. I suddenly felt my body growing weak and then I dropped onto the floor. Juniper's eyes widen and his jaw dropped.
"Stiyl!" Xander shouted, kneeling down beside me.
"Quickly! Put his necklace back on!" Juniper ordered.
Xander grabbed onto the necklace and wrapped it around my neck again. I instantly started to feel better. I allowed Xander to pull me up. I looked up at Juniper and narrowed my eyes again.
"Will you tell me now? This happened to me last night before I went to bed. I need to know why I faint every time I take my necklace off."
Juniper sighed then finally nodded. "Sit down."
I sat on my bed while Xander got back on his bed. The both of us stared at Juniper, waiting for him to start talking. Juniper looked like he was hesitant about telling us the origin of our powers.
"The origin of your powers goes way back in time. Remember when I told you that Professor Waker was in a Faerie war eons ago?"
I nodded.
"Well, he was in a Faerie war that was against evil Faerie's. There were good Faerie's and bad Faerie's. The war lasted for a hundred years until Professor Waker was the last Faerie standing to end it." Juniper explained.
I slowly nodded, still waiting for Juniper to jump to the part about us being born with the power and it seemed like Xander was thinking the same thing too.
"Okay...what does this have to do with us?" Xander spoke up.
"Your parents...Or should I say, 'parent' are Faeries. Stiyl, your mother was one and your grandma was one. The power has been passed down from generation to generation."
"So...does my mom hold this enormous power that I have?" I asked.
Juniper shook his head. "That's the special part. Nobody has the power that you all have. No family members, no friends, nobody. There was a Faerie God that lived a long time ago. He held the power that all of you have. Each of you have a little power in you, from him."
"What about our necklaces? Were they from him?" I asked.
Juniper nodded. "He created those necklaces for each of you. Let's say he knew all of you before you were even born. He created the different colored necklaces for you and locked them away so one day, each of you will be given it and get to hold the power that he harnessed."
I slowly nodded again. I was starting to get it and quite frankly, it's a lot to take in.
"So...our powers...do each of us have a special power? Like one of us has a power that the other doesn't have?" I asked.
Juniper nodded. "You'll know more later as you learn more about your powers and how to control them."
"Why can't you just tell us what our power is now?" Xander asked.
Juniper shook his head. "Sorry. This is all I can tell you."
"Doesn't Headmaster Crier know? I mean, he's the one that gave us these necklaces right? How else did we obtain these necklaces when we were accepted into Faerie Academy?" I asked.
Juniper stared at me, biting his bottom lip then sighed and nodded.
"Headmaster Crier...is the Faerie God."
