“What are we doing here?” I questioned Dante as we stood outside some abandoned shop.
He glanced back at me. “Well, I was looking at buying you a new house so we didn’t have to stay in that wretched hotel room forever.”
“Uh, huh.”
“And then I thought…” he set his finger on his chin, “what about the servants?”
“We don’t need servants,” I growled. “I’ll just make you do everything.”
“Truly hurtful, Prince,” he said then, sending me a smirk.
“Try saying that without that smile and I might believe you.”
He just gazed up and threw his leg up, kicking open the door with brutal force.
My brows raised when it caved in immediately and flew to the back wall, immediately crushing and shattering to pieces.
“Show off,” I muttered.
He smirked and stepped in, and I followed after him, glancing around in annoyance.
“So…” I said then, “we’re going to hire a fire-bombed shop as our help?”
“No,” Dante said then, “it’s something different.”
I then glanced to the right.
My eyes immediately widened when a hand flew toward us, and it got closer and closer to my face…
Until Dante caught it. “I apologize, but please keep your hands off my master. Thank you.”
The person gasped in response, freezing in place.
He just shoved them backward, and she cried out, stumbling backward before falling onto her butt.
“Don’t touch my sister, you vile wench!” a man screamed, rushing toward us from the other direction.
Dante just caught my arm, making me yelp when he threw me up.
I screamed, hands reaching out to him.
But he suddenly vanished, and I glanced back looking behind me to find him standing atop a table.
He caught me then, hands wrapping around my waist as I exhaled a short breath.
He then set me on my feet, gently dusting off my sleeves as I remained in shock, as still as a statue.
“I apologize for the inconvenience,” Dante said as the man and the woman stepped together, glaring at us, “but we hadn’t come to fight.”
“What do you want then?” the man snapped, fists clenching. “This place is our home! You’re not taking it from us!”
I just blinked, breathing slowly as I gazed over at the two people.
My… they fought so well, and they were homeless? Where did they learn to fight like that?
“Wait…” the girl said then, squinting her eyes at us. “Wait, I know you.”
I blinked hazily.
“Wait, brother,” she said, tone lighting, “that’s the boy. The boy that gave us that beef jerky that one time.”
Dante just lightly caught my shoulders, making me gaze up hazily.
“You,” the brother said then, looking at me, “you did that for us?”
“Oh… yes,” I said numbly, “I just… I do that sometimes. You were searching through the trash, and I felt bad. I knew I could get more so I just gave you mine.”
The woman suddenly stepped forward, making me blink when she bowed slightly. “Thank you!”
“Yes, thank you,” the boy said this time, bowing, too. “Kindness like that means the world to us.”
What was with the sudden change in personality?
“My master and I wanted to ask you something,” Dante said then.
I blinked, gazing up at him worriedly.
“Your… master?” the girl echoed, gazing up with her brows drawing together. “You mean you’re rich? And you willingly… gave that to us?”
“I mean… I wasn’t rich before,” I muttered.
Dante kicked my leg.
“Ow!” I said, shooting him a look.
“Yes, he was rich and gave that to you,” Dante said as I pouted slightly.
“That’s so sweet!” she said then, bowing again. “Thank you so much!”
“What did you want to ask us?” the boy said curiously.
I gazed up at Dante then, eyes glistening.
He just smirked. “We wanted to ask you to work for us.”
Her eyes immediately widened. “What?”
“We understand that you and your brother are skilled in combat,” Dante explained gently. “Because your previous jobs were being assassins for a cooperation. But when the cooperation was caught, you had horrific records, so you became homeless.”
She then swallowed something hard, and the boy just watched us more cautiously now.
“My Prince is in constant danger,” Dante said, setting his hands on my shoulders.
I gazed up at him worriedly, shaking my head.
“He is,” Dante said, sending me a stop fighting this look, “and we’d very much appreciate it if you and your brother worked as housemaids for him.”
Her lips parted. “Housemaids?”
“Yes,” Dante said, “and we would also appreciate it if in return… you would protect the house and my master, as well, if he were in some sort of danger.”
The boy suddenly looked to me. “You’re in constant danger… at so young?”
“Poor thing,” the girl whispered.
I just looked away, something cold swelling inside me.
“We will offer full pay of a hundred an hour,” Dante promised, making them gaze up in question. “As well as food services, clothing services, sleeping services, and basic need services.”
“WHAAAAAAAT?” the girl said then, eyes widening. “ARE YOU SERIOUS?”
“That’s insane…” the boy stated then, “it’s almost too good to be true.”
“I assure you we will offer it,” I spoke up then, making Dante gaze down at me with a smile. “Everything is guaranteed. I am no cheat.”
She smiled then, eyes softening when she bowed down.
Her brother did, too.
“My name is Jess,” the girl said gently, “and I would be happy to serve you, master.”
“And my name is James,” the boy stated then, closing his eyes, “I would also be elated to have you as my master.”
“I guess it’s settled then,” Dante said with a smile. “Well, we currently live in a hotel room while we find master’s new house. So we shall provide you with a room, as well, during the meantime.”
Their eyes sparkled.
“I haven’t been in a hotel room in years!” the boy said, voice light with excitement.
“This would be promising, indeed,” the girl added.
“I expect you to start working immediately,” Dante said then, lashes lowering. “I will guide you through your chores after you two wash up, alright?”
They both bowed. “Yes!”
