A knock fell on the kitchen door, and I blinked, glancing back.
Luca stood there, his right eye concealed by his messy hair as the long T-shirt he wore fell down to his knees. His breaths were uneasy, and his expression remained numb.
“Master, you’re out of bed?” I said gently, setting the fork I was washing aside. “Is everything alright?”
He just stepped in the room, rubbing his eyes. “I want... some water.”
I just smiled, lashes lowered. “You could’ve just called me.”
“I wanted to get up,” he said quietly. “I didn’t know if you were awake.”
“What were you going to do if I wasn’t awake?” I asked him, smirking. “Get it yourself?”
He gave me an annoyed look. “No... I would’ve woken you up. I just thought it would suit better to shake you like a madman rather than call you. You deserve as much for annoying me all the time.”
My smile widened a bit. “As bitter as ever, aren’t you?”
He remained silent.
“Alright, I’ll get you your water,” I said then, picking up a rag to clean off my hands before making my way to the cupboards.
I pulled out a glass and stepped over to a pitcher I left here earlier, picking it up and gently pouring the drink into the cup.
Luca just rubbed his eyes again.
I then set the pitcher aside and stepped over to him, handing him the glass of water.
He took it oddly kindly.
I just smiled. “Let’s get you back in bed.”
He turned and started out from the room, and I followed behind him closely.
We made it down the hall and to his bedroom, and I pushed open the door until he entered.
He just climbed into bed, gently taking a kind sip of his water before setting it on the nightstand.
I closed the door behind me as he shuffled further under the covers, and I stepped over to the bed, drawing the covers over him.
“What’s the schedule tomorrow...?” he asked quietly.
“I will tell you in the morning,” I responded, pulling some of his hair out of his face. “You need your mind at ease while you sleep. You’ve been restless lately.”
He sniffled and stared down at the bed, and I just smield gently.
“You’ll be alright,” I told him.
“I know,” he said quietly. “But my mind doesn’t seem to think so.”
“You’re very self-aware, my prince. I know you’ll figure it out. I’ve taught you to do so, anyhow.” I stood and dusted off my pants. “That has been what I’ve spent the last two years doing, isn’t it?”
“Dante,” Luca said quietly, making me gaze down at him.
I just got onto my knees, smiling down at him. “What is it?”
“Aren’t you hungry?” he asked me quietly.
I watched him for a moment before I shook my head. “No, my lord.”
“Are the bottles I’ve been retrieving for you enough?” he said this time. “Is it to your liking...? O-negative, I think?”
“Yes, master, it is my favorite,” I said to him, smiling gently. “You needent worry so. You have to sleep. You shouldn’t have so much on your mind this late at night, alright?”
He was silent.
“I have to go now,” I told him, gently rubbing his head. “You need to sleep.”
“Dante,” he said before I could get up.
I gazed down then, smiling slightly. “Yes, master?”
“Stay right there,” he whispered to me. “Don’t go.”
My eyes softened. “Master....”
“My mind runs rampant,” he told me quietly. “All the things I have to do, all the happenings soon. I’m so tired but....”
“But?”
“You make me feel sane,” he said then, making my lips part. “And I don’t know why.”
My lashes immediately lowered and I smiled. “You didn’t really need water, did you? You just wanted to find me.”
He nodded shyly.
“Master,” I said gently, rubbing his hair again, “you don’t have to play games. Just tell me next time, alright?”
He just gazed down at the bed. “I can’t.”
I smiled. “Why not?”
“Because it will hurt my pride.”
A chuckle fell past my lips. “As innocent as ever, aren’t you, my prince?”
He glared lazily. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It means you’re a bad liar,” I responded, gazing up. “Now go to sleep.”
His glare immediately faltered. “Will you stay?”
I nodded. “Yes. But I have chores to do. I will only stay for ten minutes.”
He smiled and hid it with the covers, making my eyes glow a slight red.
My lips curled immediately at the action.
I watched when he closed his eyes and snuggled into the mattress, and I kept sitting on the floor, waiting for him to fall asleep.
It took about five minutes, but I heard his thoughts silence, and his breaths were gentle... calm.
I just shifted onto my knee, lightly setting my lips on his forehead. “Sleep well.”
And I stood, brushing off my pants before sparing him a last glance.
His expression was soft, and his breaths were gentle.
Ah... he looked so innocent here. It was adorable.
I watched his fingers twitch as he dreamt, and my lashes lowered. “You’ve grown attached to me, haven’t you?”
He just remained asleep.
I just smiled slightly, eyes glowing a slight red. “Finally. You’re taking your sweet time, you know. It’s getting exhausting.”
I just gazed up and started to the door. “But, alas... I like this game we play. Who will give in first? Whoever does is the loser.” I glanced back at him with a smile. “It will be you, my prince. You will give in first. Because I am a demon—I am a master of games.” I then started out the door. “And I always win.”
