“Broken and withered, aren’t you?
“Don’t worry so much. I promise that it will only be me that ends you. You are my food... my dinner... and I want to devour you whole.
“Remember, master... for it is the one you trust the most that will betray you remoreselessly.
“You keep your friends close... but your enemies closer. Or don’t you remember?
“But what will you do... if your friend is the enemy?”
I shot up at the bed at an instant, gasping as my pupils shrank in fear.
After a moment, I settled back into myself, and I breathed shakily, trying to control every part of me that screamed in fear.
But my lashes lowered.
That’s the fifth time I had that nightmare this week.
I wonder if he’s hiding something from me.
I sat up on my bed, lashes lowering when I slipped my legs off and stretched out my arms.
I then glanced around before standing up.
Quietly, I stepped over to my dresser and opened it, slipping on a pair of shorts and some socks, followed with a pair of tie-less sneakers.
I then quietly made my way to the door.
I parted it immediately, closing it silently.
After glancing up and down the hall, I found it empty, so I continued forward as something inside me twinged with uneasiness.
I stopped by the kitchen door and peered in, finding Dante at work doing the dishes again.
I just held my breath and stepped past him, knowing very well he could hear my breathing.
But I made it out, sneaking to the back door in the dining room and slipping out.
I then ran down the street, needing to recooperate my emotions.
All these years, Dante and I have been getting close, and closer... but I was growing uneasy around him, almost, because I knew he was hiding something.
Something bad.
And I didn’t know what it was.
I might’ve liked him, and he might’ve been my servant, but it came to my attention that I had no choice in the matter.
He claimed he was “in love” with me, and we were playing this game, seeing who would give in first, but the issue was... something else was driving him.
I kept having this nightmare almost daily... it was as if my mind was warning me that he was dangerous and bad, but it would never tell me why.
After jogging for about ten minutes, I made it to a chai shop, and I sighed, walking in and glancing around as the door closed behind me.
The person at the front desk gazed up. “Oh, hello.”
“Hi,” I said then, stepping over to her, “you’re open, right?”
“Well...” she said then, avoiding a smile, “the door’s unlocked.”
I puffed my cheeks.
Fair point.
“What can I get for you today?” she asked me then.
“A chai latte, traditional spiced,” I responded, pulling out my wallet from my shorts.
She nodded, typing it into her computer as I inserted my card into the reader.
When it beeped, I took it out.
She nodded kindly. “It’ll be right out.”
“Thanks,” I said, stepping aside.
Almost two minutes later, she placed the lid on the cup and handed it to me. “Have a nice day.”
“You, too,” I responded, stepping out from the resturant.
I walked for another three minutes before I met the park, and I sighed, settling on the park bench as I gazed up, watching the sun peek out just behind the mountains.
I didn’t want to go home. I was getting uneasy around him.
My lashes lowered, and I pulled my chai to my lips, taking a sip.
“Running away again?” someone said from behind me.
I screamed, flipping around.
Dante stood behind me, a small smile plastered on his face as his eyes glowed a bright red. “What did I say about running off?”
I breathed shakily. “How did you find me?”
“If I tell you, then you won’t use the information kindly,” was his response.
“The hell does that mean?”
“You know what it means.”
I just gritted my teeth and stared back forward.
He just chuckled from behind me. “You know, master... this is the fifth time within the last couple days that you decided to run off. I am not very happy about that.”
“I don’t care how you feel,” I responded.
“Ouch,” he said then, smirking.
I just stared forward, avoiding eye contact.
“May I be inclined to ask why you keep running off?”
“No,” I responded, “you have your secrets, I have mine.”
“Secrets?” he echoed. “Whatever do you mean?”
I silenced for a moment. “I don’t trust you.”
“Master,” he said then, lashes lowering, “I thought we were past this.”
“And I thought you’d be a loyal servant,” I responded, “when in reality, you’re hiding something from me, and I don’t really appreciate that.”
“Hiding something?” he repeated. “Now, aren’t you jumping to comclusions?”
“Am I wrong?” I retorted.
“Why do you think I am so secretive?” he asked me then.
I just lowered my lashes. “You keep dodging the question, and it ticks me off.”
“Now you know how I feel.”
You’re planning something, I thought. I just have to find out what.
“Planning something?” he said this time, making my lashes lower. “My, my, master. You sure are paranoid, aren’t you?”
“Go away.”
“Not until I take you home,” he responded.
“I’m not going home.”
“You know how dangerous it is for you to be out here alone,” he explained to me. “Now be a good boy and follow me home.”
I cracked my teeth. “No.”
“No?” he echoed.
“No.”
“Oh, my...” he said in a dark tone, stepping around the bench, “are you fighting against me?”
I gazed up, finding his eyes glowing a dark red, and I swallowed something hard.
“You are coming home with me,” he said darkly.
“Or what?” I retorted.
His smile darkened, and he leaned forward, making me suck in a breath when he pressed his hand to the bench behind me.
I breathed shakily as his breath warmed my cheeks, and his eyes glowed a dangerous red.
“Or I’ll make you,” he whispered, tone deathly.
“You’re my servant,” I responded, locking eyes with his, “you can’t tell me what to do.”
“Yes, I can,” he responded. “It’s in the contract for me to keep you safe, so now... let’s go home.”
“I’m not going home,” I responded.
He leaned closer, making me shrink back as his eyes glowed a darker red. “You’re not pleasing me, master.”
“Why would I want to please you?”
“If you don’t come home with me right now,” he said quietly, tone dark. “Then I will drag you.”
“Then I’ll scream.”
“And I’ll gag you.”
“I’ll fight,” I said then, sweat sliding down my temples.
“Then I’ll drug you.”
I glared despite the cold rising inside me. “You’ll drug me? Are you threatening your master?”
His smile grew wicked. “Why, yes, I am. Because he’s being completely and utterly stupid, and it’s pissing me off.”
“I’m not coming home with you,” I responded, making his lashes lower.
“Yes, you are,” he responded.
“Or what?” I snapped back. “You’ll kill me?”
His smile darkened. “I’m thinking about it.”
I glared then, my temples breaking out in a sweat. “You’re bluffing. The contract won’t allow you to hurt me.”
He tipped his head to the side. “Would you like to wait and find out?”
I gritted my teeth tighter. “What are you hididng from me?”
“Nothing, master.”
“You’re a liar.”
“This is coming from the boy who’s currently keeping secrets from his loyal body guard. I don’t see how this is fair.”
“Nothing is fair.”
“Indeed, nothing,” he responded. “You, master, are as weak as a porcline doll. I—on the other hand—have the strength of a thousand suns. So how do you think this will play out if you refuse going home with me?”
I glared sharply.
“I will throw you over my shoulder,” he hissed, “and take you home myself.”
I just glared and shot up, shoving him back and storming off as his eyes burned into my back.
“Are you going somewhere?”
“Away from you.”
“My, my...” he said then, lashes lowering, “someone’s a fiesty tiger tonight, isn’t he?”
I just continued forward.
Dante suddenly appeared in front of me, making me gasp.
His lashes lowered over red eyes, and his expression showed every sign of wanting to throddle me. “Turn around,” he warned one last time, “go home. NOW.”
“Fuck you,” I hissed.
His lashes lowered. “I warned you.”
And he shot forward, making me scream when he caught my arm and threw me up.
I dropped my mug, reaching out to it as I backflipped in mid-air.
But as it splattered to the ground, I landed on Dante’s shoulder.
My breath huffed out immediately, but he just wrapped his arm around me and carried me home.
I fought him then, pushing my hands to his back while kicking his stomach.
He didn’t even wince.
“Bastard!” I yelled. “Put me down this instant!”
“I’m afraid I have to decline,” he responded as I fought him. “You are being very stubborn and it’s not making me happy.”
I glared. “I despise you.”
“You can despise me however much you want,” he responded. “If you do that again, I will lock you in your bedroom. Do you hear me?”
I continued fighting him, breathing shakily.
But I finally settled against him, catching my breath.
“Done, yet?”
“I swear, I will kill you.”
“Your wish will not be granted,” he responded then. “I am immortal.”
I just glared down at his back.
His smile sharpened.
