Andreas P.O.V-
"Yes, mom. I'm eating my vegetables." I mutter on the phone as I drive down the road.
"Just making sure you're eating healthy up there, Andreas. What do you want me to do, not see how my favorite son is doing." She speaks.
"I'm your only son, I would be your favorite son no matter what." I turn the corner, driving down my street. The house comes into view.
My mom calls me almost every day, asking me questions. Wondering if I'm eating my vegetables, not studying too hard, but studying enough to where I'm passing all my classes. And making sure I'm not giving my body up to various young girls who are looking to use me. For some reason, she still thinks I'm a virgin, to make her happy, I play along with the narrative.
"That doesn't matter, I just love you so much!" She coos, I roll my eyes. "How are your classes? Are you having a hard time? Do you need me and your Ba to come down there?" Tons of questions pool out of her mouth. I find myself swerving on the street, my hand readjusts the wheel. Her questions were so distracting it almost ran me off the road.
"Stay where you are!" I alert her. "I'm fine, everything is fine. The classes are going ok, so are work and football. We have a game next week against SU, their team is pretty good so winning may be slim to none." I confess. Every year we play SU, aka, Stanford University. And every year we lose. Maybe it's because their coach is a beast and very good at uncovering our plays, OR the fact that most SU players are built like The Rock. No joke, one of them almost knocked me unconscious. I felt like I got super drunk and stood up too fast.
"Don't think like that, Andreas. Once you put negative thoughts in the universe, they will come true. Think positive, you're so good at football there's no way they can beat you. Not my baby." My stomach flutters a bit from hearing those words.
My mother has always been my biggest cheerleader. Showing up to all my games, her face painted in the school colors while a foam finger waggles in the air. My father would just shake his head at her, telling her to sit down and that she's embarrassing me. Most boys would be embarrassed by their mother screaming loudly in the stands, but not me. If it wasn't for her being on me all the time and showing up to my games, I wouldn't be here today. She's the whole reason I play the game, it's something we always did together. I played the games while she cheered in the stands.
"You're right, I'll think positive thoughts now. Hey, I've pulled up to the house. Talk to you later?"
"You better, you said that last time and never called me." She says softly.
My heart aches from hearing her voice weaken, "Sorry, I had a game and was super tired. Love you." My car pulls into the driveway, parking behind Monica's red car.
"Love you too, Andreas." I hang up my phone, take the key out of the ignition, and head for the house.
Before my mom called, I was in a study group with my biostatics class. It was all going well until Meghan called on me. She always tries to make me look dumb in front of the group, I don't know if she has a problem with me personally or the fact that I'm a jock.
From what I've heard about her, she dated someone on the football team last semester and they broke her heart. I may be her personal punching bag.
Anyway, she asked me a question, it was the hardest one on the list so, of course, I didn't know. To which she publicly humiliated me, saying if I spend as much time studying as I do on the field, then I would know the answer to the question. The fucked-up thing was that she didn't know it either, it was a proof question our professor gave us. She's such a-
"Andreas?" I hear a quiet voice say at the end of the driveway. Turning around, I notice that it's a girl. But since it's dark out here, she's hidden in the darkness.
"Uh, yes, that's me. And who are you?" I question. The girl steps under the street light, the yellow light brings her to life. I drop my phone on the ground, from the piercing noise that came out, I could tell it was broken. "Je-jessie!"
"Hey, Andreas." She cracks a smile, her thick Italian accent coming out. Jessie Agnello, the girl that broke my heart into a million pieces. Built it back together, and broke it again. She played me for a fool, used me for my niceness, and practically dipped and ran off. In my life, I've never experienced pain like that, it was worse than breaking my leg at my 8th-grade football game.
She looks the same as when I last saw her three years ago. Tan skin, brown eyes, wavy brown hair, and light freckles on her nose. "Wha- wha- I don't understand, why are you here? In California? At my house." It's like a crossover or something. Superman going through a portal into New York City to see Spiderman. But, in my case, Jessie's in my world. She doesn't belong here, doesn't fit in the puzzle.
"James, he transferred to Stanford, I moved down here with him. When I heard you lived in this neighborhood, I had to come and see you." She edges a little closer to me, but I step back, running into Daniel's beat-up truck. Usually, a car alarm would go off, but since it's so old, a creak comes out of it. I just want to get out of here, escape and never return. I wish I could wipe my memory of her, but the technology's not that advanced yet.
"Don't mention HIS name!" I scream, she flinches. "So, are you here to coat on the pain a little bit more, cause more damage? I can't fucking believe you're living in California now, what the fuck Jess!"
I can see tears forming in her brown eyes, glossing over like fog on a mirror.
Usually, I would cower when I saw her cry, not anymore, I feel nothing. My body is all numb over. "No! I came to-to see if we can get past what happened 3 years ago. We'll be an hour away and may run into each other. I just-
"No! Fuck no. You can't be here, not in fucking California, go back to where you came from."
"Andreas, I'm sorry about what happened. I didn't mean to fall for James, I never wanted to hurt you." The tears are now streaming down her face, hands twitching. I look at her wrist, she's still wearing the charm bracelet I bought her for her 19th birthday. I saved all the money I earned at the pool to pay for that thing.
I point a shaky finger at her wrist, "You said you lost it."
"Lost what?" She asked confused.
"The charm bracelet. When I left you, I asked for it back and you said you lost it. Why would you say that?"
Her eyes look to the shiny, silver charm bracelet that light reflects off of. "Oh, uh, yeah. It was a gift Andreas, you thought I would give it back to you?" I see her eyes crack.
"Yes, because when you cheat on the guy that broke his back to get that gift, you give it back to be nice. First, you fuck my best friend behind my back, then lie about doing it. Now, I find out the bracelet you said you lost, is now wrapped around your wrist. I-I can't be out here right now, I need to leave." I stagger up the walkway to the front door, I don't know how I'm walking right now, how my legs are able to find the destination with my brain in scatters.
"Andreas! Please we need to talk."
"No, we don't." I swerve around. "You come to my fucking house trying to talk to me, knowing damn well I don't want to see you. I would call you a name right now, but I don't disrespect women. Now, leave and never come back."
"Fine." She whispers.
Before my hand opens up the door, I stop her. "Jessie?"
"Yeah." She says hopefully.
"Is James playing on the Stanford team next week?"
"He is, that's why I wanted to talk to you, so you aren't shocked when you see him." All I do is slam the front door as loud as I can. The chit-chatting, I heard in the kitchen seizes to stop.
My body is fuming, hands are clenched tightly together creating small crescents in my palm. My jaw tightens. "What's going on, Dre?" Monica asks me. She's got her new purple hair in a ponytail paired with a black skirt, platform shoes, and corset top with studs on the straps.
"Jessie." Is all I say, as I walk past her to the kitchen.
"That bitch." She whispers. Monica is the only one that's met Jessie before. On Christmas break, she couldn't afford a plane ticket home to Colorado, so I invited her home with me. Which turned out to be fun, we hit up all the bars in town and drank the night away. My mother was mad, of course, and said Monica could never come back since she's a bad influence on me.
"Got that right." When I walk into the kitchen, I see Elizabeth standing at the marble countertop in a pair of shorts that makes her ass sit high with a black shirt with the words 'fuck you' on it. When she sees the sad look on my face, she just stares at me. I walk to the fridge and take out a beer, slamming it on accident. She jumps, then her eyes move back to the chopping board.
I forgot tonight's her night to make dinner. I believe she's making chicken tacos; I wonder if they'll top Bridget's. I walk right past her, but stop dead in my tracks. I can't leave the kitchen like this, knowing I scared her.
I lean down in her ear, "I'm sorry." My lips kiss her collarbone as my hand is planted on the small of her back. She hisses under her breath. "I'm just a little frustrated." I walk out of the kitchen.
"You better be down here to eat my tacos!" She screams from the kitchen.
I joke with her by saying, "Which ones!" I don't get to hear her response since I'm already in my room. For those few seconds, she made me forget about Jessie.
I fall back on my bed, my eyes shut closed, refusing to open. When it comes to Elizabeth, she makes me forget everything, all reason goes out the door.
When I fingered her in my truck the other night, I was so entranced by her. The clutching of her pussy around my fingers, the way her boobs bounced, but most importantly, how beautiful she looked unbound in front of me. She wasn't Ms. Sarcastic anymore, but a normal girl getting her pussy railed, and when she orgasmed, I almost lost it. She screamed, literally screamed.
Then the kiss, it was pure heaven. Girls don't usually kiss me all the time, we just fuck and that's it. I felt bad when she kissed me and I didn't kiss her back, she looked hurt and embarrassed. But I made up for it when we walked to the door and I pulled her head back to me and tongued her down. Her mouth tasted so good; my tongue swirled around trying to taste every corner of it.
She's so fucking addicting.
And the problem? I don't know how to change it, and it scares me.
