Today was the first day of the new grade–or in other words: Year Eight–. Pupils piled in as bunches and groups, with friends chattering and making noise. Even Midnight, who was supposedly silent and calm could be heard joking with her other Omega friends.
She hadn’t known yet, thinking her brothers and her herself were the only hybrids in the world, but she was incredibly off on that. Truth is, the school was compiled with different hybrids, from Inu’s (dogs) to Neko’s (cats) or even bunnies to birds. The whole school wasn’t completely filled with them, but a vast majority was known.
Midnight hadn’t the slightest clue about this though, as her siblings are either always with her, or have already informed her friends and aquatintences to hide it from her. So here she stood, mindlessly talking to her best friend–Winter–who was an Omega Inu. “Win! Win! Look at this!” She giggled, showing her friend a horoscope scribble on her phone. Winter looked down at the shorter, smiling at her friend’s childishness.
As they strolled up to the school, Midnight had caught someone’s eye. “Pyro?” Her voice sounded like music to his ears as he slowly walked closer, “Hi Midnight! Hi Winter!” He beamed, next to him were two other Alphas: Mako–a husky hybrid– and Saen–a panther hybrid–. As usual, the two were informed of Midnight’s nameless secret. It was unusual to them of course, to not be able to show themselves was uncomfortable; but they had to bear with it if they wanted her to be safe.
However in Pyro’s mind, this seemed idiotic. What good will hiding things from her bring? She’s already 14! To him, there was absolutely no point of hiding it other than her brother killing him. He let out a breath, heading to his first class. Morning rituals were finished and the teacher gave them free time to relax and chill. Pyro hummed to himself softly, taking out his phone and earphones to watch some anime (AOT! Or SNK) instinctively, his pale yellow ears popped out and tail wagged lightly.
It was completely normal to see a student like this in their school so he wasn’t worried, the only thing–or rather, person– that kept appearing in his mind was Midnight. It was weird. She’ll have to know eventually right? She surely won’t let her brothers protect her always; she just–wasn’t that type of Omega. The thought made him think, was she even an Omega?? He’d never seen a female Alpha before...and her scent clearly stated she was an Omega; but she was so…different.
She was filled with courage. He’s sure she knew she was speaking to an Alpha, but she still argued with him. Her brother was an Alpha, but she stood up to him to defend him–Pyro– it was strange, her scent spread more too, which is usually something only Alpha’s do, thanks to the stronger smell. Maybe it had something to do with her having two Alpha brothers? Maybe she was an Alpha?? Ughh..it was all so annoying to think about. Anime wasn’t helping anymore either.
He shook off his add-ons and asked to go to the toilets for a walk.
-Midnight’s P.O.V-
I was heading to the washroom to wash my hands since I had accidentally stained them with ink. On the way there I spotted Mako, he strolled out of the cubicles with his usual attire: a customised, shaggy hairstyle with a baggy white sweater and jeans. He ran a hand through his hair, spinning around to face me by chance.
“Mako!” My voice echoed, I wasn’t necessarily loud, it was just busy bouncing to his ears. A silly grin curved on his lips as he headed over to me. He smelt strongly. But this time it’s was sweet, like a fresh pastry or candy. I shrugged off the thought, facing my tall friend. “Hi Midnight.” His voice cracked, I giggled slightly, his voice went too high pitch again..
He leaned in gently, reaching a hand out and rubbing my head. I purred subtly, being extra careful not to reveal my own secret to someone who would probably think I’m some sort of experiment gone wrong. It’s chaotic, to be in the only family of hybrids. So much stress on having to hide our ears and tail. I sigh, my slanted, grapes gazing up at Mako.
Suddenly, a throaty growl rips through our peace. Mako’s eyes dart up to meet Pyro’s now glowing tangerine ones; they remind me of fire. I cower back behind Mako, watching as not only his maroon eyes flare, but a smirk curl on his lips as he pushes me forward into Pyro’s arms. Shocked by both fear and the sudden movement, I shouted, “Both of you!” Immediately, both males stand to attention, eyes softening and looking at me.
My eyes burn into Mako’s, “Care to explain?” I tapped my foot, watching his coy smirk turn into a lurking grin. “I think someone has a crush.” Was all he admitted, turning on his heel and heading back to his class. The mint scent lingers as Mako’s drifts away. A pair of slender arms slither down my shoulders to my chest, pulling me back slightly.
“I…I don’t like Mako touching you..” Pyro whispered, but it was just a mere blur to me as I felt myself getting dizzy with the intense aroma. I stumbled back into his chest and nodded, slowly raising back up and rushing away in a daze as I remembered I still have a class to head to.
