Aidoneus was in his room and had finished sending the Zoom link to all pack members. He ensured that one would be sent to Garret and Trinidad. Although they were still punished, they were still part of the pack. Afterward, he looked into Netflix to see which movie he wanted. There was a Christmas list of movies, and I clicked on it. There were a lot of romantic movies, but he wasn't the type for romance movies. However, the feeling changes when he discovered that Persefone was his mate.
The movies gave him hope that he and Persefone would be together for the Christmas holidays. His thoughts were interrupted when there was a knock on the door. "Great, the food is here." The young man went to answer the door, and a doordash worker gave him the food and went off. He closed the door and put the food in the kitchen, and as he was about to serve himself, there was a noise on the door knob.
The door was opened, and Treyton entered the house. Aidoneus looked at his father; he looked like a nervous wreck. "Hey Pops, are you okay? Did something happen?"
Treyton slowly walked to the living room and sat on one of the sofas. "I saw Maeve's mother."
Aidoneus cringed. "Woah, bet that must have been awkward. So, how did it go?"
"Awkward, as you have said. I didn't expect her to be at Maeve's place. She was respectful, but I could tell that she was cautious." Treyton scruffled his hair. "I should have listened; I should've called her."
"Don't beat yourself up about it, Pops. Things happen for a reason." Aidoneus fixed a plate for his father and then for himself. "Think of it as an opportunity for her to see you upfront and show her that you are there for Maeve no matter what she thinks or feels."
Treyton slowly looked at his son and took the plate of food. He couldn't help but be proud of his son. "You truly have what it takes to be an Alpha. Thank you, son."
"No sweat, Pops. I also sent the Zoom link to the pack, so we need to eat as fast as we can so we can prepare." Father and son sat next to each other with food in hand. They turned on the television to watch some football. However, Aidoneus couldn't help but think about Persefone; he had to see her soon. "Maybe I'll text her after the meeting is over."
Meanwhile, Maeve and Laoise sat next to one another on one of the sofas. The television was turned on, and they watched a movie, 'Falling for Christmas.' Laoise didn't say anything regarding Treyton, and Maeve was relieved but knew the silence wouldn't last long.
"Well, I won't deny that your boyfriend is handsome," said Laoise teasingly.
"Mom, he's not my boyfriend. We're still in the early stages of dating." Maeve sat beside her mother as she began to eat pieces of her food. "I want to take my time since I realized that being in a long-term relationship doesn't always guarantee certainty happiness."
"Has Stephen ever tried to contact you?"
The mention of Stephen made Maeve's stomach grumble with uneasiness. She wanted to move on from him and wanted to forget the memories of the breakup. However, her mother's curiosity was justified since it had been a while since Maeve had seen her. "Yeah, he did once. However, when Treyton and I were on another date, Stephen was there."
Laoise raised an eyebrow. "He was? Ó mo dhia (Oh my god)! That must have been awkward! So how did Treyton react?"
"I thought Treyton would make a big scene, but he was calm about it. However, I couldn't help but feel that he wasn't happy. I can't blame him though, seeing your date's ex can be upseting."
"You mentioned that he was divorced. If you and Treyton become a serious thing, there will come a time when, one day, you will meet his ex-wife. How will you handle it?"
It was something that Maeve didn't overthink about. She didn't know her reaction if she met Treyton's ex-wife. Treyton was very handsome and wondered if his ex-wife was as beautiful. A hint of jealousy overwhelmed her. "I-I don't know how I would handle it. His ex was the one who wanted the divorce; she didn't want to be with him anymore."
Mother and daughter ate their food and drank silently until Laoise asked, "What of his son?"
"Mom, please."
"Maeve, if you and Treyton ever become serious, then there will come a time when he and I need to be fully introduced. I will have to know everything about him. How old is his son?"
"He's nineteen." Maeve noticed that her mother wasn't happy. She knew that her mother would have preferred her to date someone close to her age, but there were times when many men weren't mature or didn't know what they wanted. Stephen was a clear example, but Maeve promised herself that she would look for someone who knew what he wanted. "Treyton was honest with me initially, knowing I might refuse him. I would rather go out with an honest man than a dishonest one. The man I choose will be for me."
Laoise was silent and noticed how determined her daughter was. Although it was difficult to admit, her daughter was right; a man would be for her. Maeve was an adult and had to make her own decisions even if Laoise didn't like them. "Alright, Maeve. I get the message; it is your life and your decision. However, if you two do get serious, I want the opportunity to know more about him."
"Of course." Maeve was about to eat but noticed how her mother slowly swayed side to side. "Are you okay? You don't look too good."
"Yes, I forgot to take my medicine for blood pressure. I need to go to the restroom, and I will be right out." Laoise got her bag, immediately went to the restroom, and closed the door behind her. She went to the sink to get her pills. When she got a hold and took them out, a paper fell onto the sink. Although most of the paper wasn't viewable, the bottom parts were visible. There was a large red circle around the word 'positive.' Laoise got the paper and put it in her bag. "Positive, huh." She got her pills and water and swallowed them, then went back to her daughter to finish the rest of their dinner.
