A whole year had passed, and Maeve couldn't help but remember everything that had happened. Unfortunately, Laoise passed away, and Maeve was distraught, but Treyton and the others were with her and helped with any expenses she had. It was Laoise's wish to be cremated and to be combined with her husband's ashes that she kept in her room.
The funeral was done a couple of days before Christmas Eve, and Maeve believed it was an experience she would never get through. However, Treyton and the pack were in attendance and never left her side. Stephen was also in attendance but kept his distance and ensured not to give Treyton and Maeve the wrong idea. Once the funeral was over, Stephen gave his ex his condolences and went away so that she could live her new life with Treyton.
Before Laoise passed away, she told Maeve about her will. Everything belonged to Maeve; Laoise wanted her daughter to go to Ireland to celebrate Christmas there. Once in Ireland, Maeve was instructed to release her parents' ashes at the Cliffs of Moher and Burren.
Maeve knew that her parents always wanted to take her there. When her mother passed, Maeve didn't want to celebrate Christmas but decided to celebrate since that was what her mother wanted. Treyton and the pack agreed to celebrate at Laoise's home to bring life and happiness; Maeve felt happy.
She also felt that her mother was with her throughout the way.
Throughout the year, Maeve continued teaching alongside Patrisha, who introduced the woman she was still dating. Eventually, Maeve and Treyton told Patrisha about Treyton's werewolf identity. He showed her in private, which shocked the older woman. Eventually, she accepted the truth and swore to keep it a secret. Aidoneus and Persefone were still dating, and Maeve could tell how happy they were. From what she could tell, Edgar never bothered Persefone again.
Despite all the drama, Calista and Nicolas were slowly getting accepted into the pack.
Garret got his position back, and Trinidad learned not to interfere in Treyton and Garret's pack business. Trinidad assisted Maeve in transitioning into the pack and all its responsibilities. Maeve was surprised to learn she would eventually become a Luna since Treyton was Alpha. She wasn't sure if that was something she wanted, but Maeve relented after seeing the responsibilities and how kind the pack members were.
The rest of the year was ending soon, and Treyton surprised Maeve with plane tickets to Ireland. He rented a cabin close to the cliffs to celebrate the week leading up to Christmas. Maeve was soon going to make her parents' wish come true.
Upon their arrival, Maeve became emotional that she was finally in Ireland and how beautiful the country was; Treyton always stayed by her side. He was happy seeing his mate happy. They enjoy spending time in Ireland and how the Irish practiced the Christmas tradition.
The week was coming to a close, and it was finally Christmas Day; the couple would eventually return to the States the next day. However, Maeve decided it was time to go to the cliffs before they could enjoy their last day in Ireland. The couple arrived at the cliffs and watched the beautiful ocean waters. Maeve held that urn that had her parents' ashes.
"Are you sure you are ready to do this?" asked Treyton.
"Ready as I will ever be." Maeve slowly opened the urn where she saw her parents' ashes; tears slowly formed and dripped, but a cold gust of wind blew them away. She took a deep breath and put the urn downward, making the ashes fly away along with the wind. Treyton immediately put an arm around him as Maeve quietly whimpered to herself. "They're finally home."
"Yes, they are, Maeve. You're also home."
The young woman smiled while nodding. "Yes, I am." She kept watching the waters and cliffs, not realizing that Treyton had let her go. Once done, Maeve turned around, but to her shock, Treyton no longer stood.
He was kneeling on one knee with a small box in his hand. "Maeve, I-I know that you finally put your parents to rest and I wasn't sure when I should have done this. However, I wanted to do this in your parents' homeland to leave a mark here. Also, I also wanted them to see this moment. You complete me, you are my motivation to wake up every time I see you, I fall in love with you every single time I see you. Maeve Connor, will you marry me?" Treyton opened the box, and inside was a silver ring with a small emerald diamond in the middle.
Maeve gasped as she rang and then at Treyton, the werewolf man. The werewolf who was her mate, her mate who stood by her through the good and the worst. "Yes, I will!"
Treyton sighed in relief as he removed the ring from the box and removed her finger. He felt joy when he put it. He felt complete that they would be together for the rest of their lives. The Alpha stood as he wrapped his arms around her waist while he wrapped her arms around his shoulders.
They kissed as the ashes flew around them and over the green hills.
Maeve and Treyton suffered many hardships, but Christmas brought them together. They went through hardships that almost made them lose hope for the holiday, but they realized they got what they wanted: A Merry Christmas.
