He rummaged in the shed in the back garden and eventually brought out and assembled a small trampoline that had been there for a couple of years for when his niece and nephew came round.
He stood back to admire his handiwork and shot a victorious look back at Louise. She gestured to him to test it out before letting the boy onto it.
Slowly and carefully Ian climbed onto the frame and started to do a few small bounces. Then he got off again and lifted the boy onto it.
The boy looked around for a while, but then got the general idea of the trampoline. He began to bounce, higher and higher, until it almost seemed as if he was flying.
Then he miscalculated a jump and accidentally jumped too high; and off.
Louise could only stare on in panic, Ian running and holding out his arms to catch him - but there didn't seem to be any need to.
The boy almost glided through the air and landed perfectly on his feet, looking behind him to his new parents as if to say, "How was that?"
Ian rubbed his eyes. He could have sworn held seen... wings?
But no... it couldn't have been...
And yet the more he thought about it, the more he seemed to realise that held actually seen this young, this 4-year-old boy, grow beautiful, white, angelic wings, right in living daylight.
But angels didn't ACTUALLY exist, did they?
Or... did they?
