Ryann gulped, his cheeks burning like embers in her smile.
Suddenly, the bell rang for next period, and the girl looked up at the skies in dismay. “That’s a pretty weird bell. I kinda miss my old one…” Then she turned and smiled back at Ryann, who couldn’t stop looking at her. “Well, are you going to show me to my class?”
Quickly realizing what she had asked, he finally swallowed the lump in his throat and nodded his head like an excited toddler. He awkwardly stood straight up, his body stiff from the unexpected surprise, and led her to the junior building.
After making it to her class in the stiffest of silences, she stopped to ask if he would be around after school to hang out and show her the town.
He eagerly nodded again, still lost for words.
She broke into the most beautiful of beaming smiles, the baby hairs of her forehead sticking to her skin from the rain. Then she turned to the ground, biting on her bottom lip before looking up at him, her golden eyes speaking millions of unheard words. Ryann could feel his heart quicken at the sight of her as he tried imagining the words she never said. “Thank you, Ryann. I’m glad you ran into me.” She touched his arm awkwardly before making her way into class, giving a curt bow to the teacher.
Ryann watched her go, finally gaining the breath she so effortlessly took away, his first words in this whole conversation being, “Myah…”
