“I have to take this.” I said as I get up and left Sterling inside the guest room. I took a deep breath before greeting Evan, “Hello, babe.”
“Are you okay?” He called for a reason and he asks me if I am okay. I am guilty!!
I scoffed, “Y-yeah, why wouldn’t I be? Why did you call? Did the hospital take your leave?”
“Uhhh, actually I’m already in Michigan and I’m outside your parents’ house. It was supposed to be a surprise but I didn’t know your parents wouldn’t be here yet. And I took a plane sooo…”
Oh shoot! I don’t even know if I could face Evan right now without looking a bit guilty, I don’t want his stay here to be bad, “I’ll get you.”

I went back to the Williams house and took my purse. “Where are you going? You are not taking your bags, are you?”
“No, I won’t.” I pinched the bridge of my nose, ashamed of the request that I’ll be asking. I should’ve told him I already have a fiancé. “I have to pick up someone and since my parents are not yet home can I drop him off here? We’ll be gone first thing in the morning.” I tried hard not to bit my lower lip.
He smiled, still ecstatic of what happened upstairs I guess. “Of course, your friend is welcome here.”
And I took off.

On my way to my parents’ house I called Ariana, “Hey Ari.” I said sighing.
“What happened?”, of course she already have an intuition.
I whined before I tell her, “We made out.”, I confessed and prepared myself with what Ariana has to say.
“And?”
“And Evan is here.”
“What?!” and that’s the reaction that I expected from Ariana, “How is he there? I thought his leave is still being processed and if the HR says that it usually means ‘No, you can’t have this leave’”
I hit my wheel a little in frustration, “I thought he told you. Apparently, it was to surprise me but my parents aren’t home yet and I’m staying with the Williams.”
“If I know I would’ve warned you. I know Sterling won’t be able to get his hands off of you and I’m guessing he doesn’t know your fiancé would be coming there?” she says all with one breath.
And I thought she should know that I didn’t even tell Sterling that I have a fiancé, maybe he just sees my engagement ring as an accessory. The minimal design didn’t make it stand out though. Another exclaims could be heard from Ariana on the other end of the call.
“What am I going to do?” I whimpered as I turn one last block until I reach my parents’ house.
“You have to come clean to both of them. That’s the only way River.”, and we hanged up.

I took three deep breaths before I climbed off my car and greeted Evan who is on the house porch looking cold but still warm. I missed that face.
“Evan!” I called out and he ran to me to give me a bouquet of flowers and to hug me.
This is where I should be, in his warm hug and heavy smell of cleanliness, drowning in his sweetness and romantic gestures. “I missed you” he said and kissed me on the forehead.
“Let’s get you warm.” I told him and lead him to my car opening my trunk at the same time.
As we get on the car on the warmth of the heater he asks, “Where are you staying? You should’ve just texted me the hotel and I’ll come find you.”
“Oh it’s okay. I’m not staying in a hotel.” I looked at his deep brown eyes, “You remember the author I am interviewing? We went to the same school only she is five years younger than me. I was friends with her brothers back then as well.”, and that is the partial truth. I don’t want to bomb him with the confession that one of Charlie’s brothers were actually my first love, my first love that caused me the operation.
Gladly, he didn’t ask any more questions and took out his phone to check on his patients’ files. He’s dedicated like that.

“Evan this is Sterling and Charlie, Charlie, Sterling this is Evan.” I introduced as we got inside.
“Nice to meet you.”, Evan offered his hand and Sterling looked at me suspiciously before he shook it.
“Nice to meet you too, Evan.”, Charlie chirped in and gladly took his hand, “Now I know why River can’t resist but to say yes to you.”
And I felt the blood run from my face and Sterling looked at me sternly, “What do you mean?”
Evan not knowing the awkward situation we are currently in simply said, “Oh we’re gonna get married, but tuck in your tuxedo because we haven’t talked about it yet. I just know that she’ll be mine in the near future” and I received another forehead kiss from Evan as he shows off his romantic side. I smiled innocently.

Dear S.W.
I have met an awesome guy, but don’t misunderstand because after all the things I’ve said to you to make you go away, I still love you and I guess I would be in love with you for a long time.
It takes a lot of time to move on from someone you truly love, you know, because I can’t hate nor I can un love you. I just need to be used to not meeting you and speaking to you, but I know for myself that I will always love you because you have been a big part of my life.

So, this guy’s name is Evan. He’s been helping me a lot on my therapy and stuff. He is an intern doctor at the hospital I was admitted to. He is already on his second year of college and has four more years to study to become a paediatrician, I think, if that’s the kind of doctor he wants to be.
He’s keeping me company until it’s time to move to New York and attend university. He’s talking about transferring to the same university as I am, but those are just rumors, of course he’ll continue his studies here in Michigan.

I heard you guys moved away. I hope I wasn’t the reason for that.

I remembered the first time you guys moved in. I was instant friends with your brother because we’re on the same grade and your sister was just an angel that your brother always takes along when the class have some activities, he says it’s because your parents have to work both and I thought it must be hard to have three kids, so I tried to entertain Charlie as possible whenever your brother tags her along and we became instant friends as well. A friendship that is far more than the friendship I have with kids my age.
And then I noticed you. I noticed how you never smiled and always seems like thinking of something deep. I thought it was a bit weird because your siblings were cheeky and smiley, and then there’s something about you that I can’t take my mind off. Maybe that was when I first got infatuated with you.
I wouldn’t know though. I never thought that those kind of feelings would come to me any sooner.
And the next thing I knew, I was blushing at the sound of your name and it was in my utmost interest whenever your brother talks about you and your family.
I became so interested in you and I guess that’s what drew you in.

Maybe it was the last time I would get to see you, but I’m still glad I saw and meet someone like you.
All these letters that I’ve been addressing to you, I don’t think I’ll send them any sooner and I don’t think I’ll stop writing them in the near future as well.
