"Mmm" the dark haired male sighed as he sat up, bright lights flickering above him. His eyes twitched and he rubbed his left one with a shaky hand.
He looked around the building. It was large and spacious, many chests lined the walls and a spiral staircase sat in the middle. The floor on the other hand was an interesting pattern made of crafting tables, he raised an eyebrow before settling on the idea that no one was here.
He sighed and flung the covers off him, he was sweating.
He let his feet touch the floor, surprised to notice it was cold and cooled him down a bit, he stood and made his way to the mirror that was nearby on a wall.
His hair was long, to the end of his thighs shining black with a bit of dark blue left behind. His left eye was a crystal blue while the other sclera was a dark gray, his pupil a crimson red. He was wearing fancy clothes with blue hues and white and silver accents, he reached up to touch his right eye with a shaken hand before he gasped a shot of pain shooting through his veins before things went dark.
He stood silently in the dark and breathed deeply, his body threatening to make him hyperventilate when a figure appeared, almost like a red shadow the color of fresh blood.
“You must be him” they said, female. The voice was raspy and threatening. He flinched.
“Who?”
She laughed her laugh like shattering glass.
“Ah right, I forgot that was part of signing a contract with Ren” she spoke making her way to him.
“I don’t…” she held up a hand to make him stop, he went silent.
“Before you appeared here, you and your shadow…Ren got caught in the void, but he did it intentionally. He begged me to take his place even though he knew I was the goddess of death and destruction“ she rattled on, He blinked.
“Then why can’t I remember everything?”
“He wanted you to have a fresh start, the things you experienced before you were brought here, were so traumatizing and exhausting to your body, that if you were to stay that way while being here you’d eventually kill yourself.” She said, he frowned.
“Can I at least know my name?”
She sighed, “sorry, I only know Ren’s seeing as he’s the one who bargained with me. All I can tell you is that you’re a god just like me, but you’ll have to relearn your powers. With us together we could be a very powerful pair.” She said with a smile in her voice, it was quiet for a bit.
“You could always give yourself a name….” She said, he bit his lip in thought before looking back to the crimson shadow.
“What about Souless…Soul for short” he said quietly, she chuckled.
“I see what you did there, now I have one question for you,” she said, taking a step closer to him.
He raised an eyebrow “are you willing to pledge your loyalty to me?” She asked, he sighed.
“Yes” he said in desperation, she grinned.
“Well, with that I will return you back to the over world because your new friends are quite literally terrified that you are on the verge of death.“ she said, Soul looked around the void, her voice becoming echoey in his head of darkness.
“Oh, and try to cut your hair…with the way it looks now, it’s Embarrassing” she sneered before disappearing all together, he scowled and closed his eyes.
When he opened them again he gasped from air foam on the corners of his mouth, he coughed and someone turned him to his side swiftly.
"Hey, hey- take it easy man… you'll be okay"
Soul gasped and positioned himself onto his hands and knees before sitting up slowly, he spit foam from his mouth and wiped away the leftover.
"Jeez- you must have really hit your head, are you feeling alright?"
Soul's eyes narrowed.
Who the hell is bothering me.
He stood weakly before tripping, the person next to him grabbed him and helped him to the bed.
"I'm fine."
The person next to him sighed.
"Clearly not, you hit your head really hard on a tree stump when you appeared. You're lucky you didn't fall from the sky" the person said.
Soul scowled.
Something about that sounded familiar…
"The names Dream"
Soul looked up to the outstretched hand offering him some bread. Dream was tall, well taller than him at least with blonde-ish brown hair that almost seemed to change depending on the way the sun hit it. He wore a lime green hoodie with a lopsided smiley face on it, and Soul scowled.
The hell… why is it so bright? Of all the colors.
Soul took the bread hesitantly and tore off a small piece eating it slowly, Dream cocked his head a mask tilted ever so slightly to show a green eye almost like emerald.
"Oh- right" Soul said, realizing Dream introduced himself "Um, I'm Soul… " he said with a scowl, Dream chuckled and sat on the stairs resting his chin in his hand.
"Interesting name" he said, Soul glared.
"Yours isn't very normal either you know. " he snapped, Dream raised his hands in self defense.
"Don't bite the hand that feeds"
Soul rolled his eyes at the comment.
"So… where did you come from?" Dream asked, Soul cocked an eyebrow and finished off his bread before looking him dead in the eyes.
"What do you mean?"
Dream shrugged "it's just, I usually know who's gonna show up before they do. I got zero notice this time…" he explained,Soul blinked.
What?
"and you expect me to remember? After I hit my head on a tree stump" Soul said with slight disbelief in his voice.
Who was this guy?
Dream shrugged.
"Well I mean I assumed you were a god with the way you're dressed, so I kinda guessed you wouldn't be affected. Guess I was wrong" he said standing and shoving his gloved hands into his jeans pockets.
"Guess so."
Dream sighed "well, I gotta get going. I'm not really supposed to be out an about- so I gotta dip. Take whatever from the chests and go explore, just don't fall and hit your head again" he said with a smirk as he slung a satchel over his shoulder.
"I won't be able to save you next time you do," Dream said, giving a two-fingered salute before running deep into a forest.
Soul sighed "I'm not a damsel in distress" he grumbled as he stood and grabbed a loose bag in a corner, he should stay in the house but for some reason it didn't feel safe so he got to work shoving items into his satchel.
Food, money, anything he thought he would need.
He went to shut a chest when he noticed a mask deep inside, he raised an eyebrow.
"Take it. We can't have people know if you're possessed in the first place" a raspy voice in his head said, the goddess.
He thought for a moment before pulling it out along with a dark blessed sword which he attached to his hip on the left.
He fiddled with the mask strap as he took in the sight of it, half of it was white with a smile and squinting eyes while the other half was carved into a twisted smile, sharp teeth and all.
He sighed.
"Think of it as a gift" the voice said, he nodded and pulled it over his head, struggling due to the lack of silkyness in his long hair.
She was right, his hair was not only embarrassing but annoying as well.
As he walked away from the building he walked past a few homes, one settled into the sky a ray of light shooting down from it. Another built from obsidian, he shrugged off his surroundings and kept walking before he came upon a small ledge where he froze staring in wonder.
A city, built right in front of him… made right in between a forest and a river the water glistening in the sunlight as people bustled about and chatted.
Lanterns hung from poles across the board walk, houses made beautifully, small fairy lights and banners connected from one building to another.
The place was astounding, he chuckled and walked down the hill he was on careful not to fall and stepped onto the boardwalk.
What was this place?
