The closer we got, for some reason the more crowded the atmosphere was. Not like the crowds of a festival, but a crowd of curious people. The closer, the more. The closer, the more uneasy feeling I got. The problem is two police cars parked in Widehope's yard.
We rushed quickly, meet the nearest person.
"Hey, what happened?" I asked.
“Kid, actually…”
Aunt Edelweiss explained in detail what had happened.
When I heard that, I couldn't believe it anymore. I went straight to the place. My head hurts, my chest tight with frustration. My friend, who even though I had intended to make those biscuits one day, was about to be carried on a stretcher by an ambulance officer. Meanwhile, suddenly the stiff-faced man approached me who was frozen. That man immediately took me to the interrogation car with no hesitant.
"Son, tell me where were you during the day?"
My mouth wouldn't move, no words at all. But there's a Beagle, that's what I think. I turned to her, my gaze blank.
"Answer superintendant Mcpherson's question, please," the Beagle told me.
“I-I-“
Gwendoline and Beckey came. They helped me answer as well as witnesses. After that they interrogated us. It didn't last long because the three of us weren't at the location.
"Sir, at least tell me what caused Foscow to die?" I asked stubbornly to the arrogant policeman.
“Sorry, the procedure is not like that. "he added with a sigh. "We asked and you answered, that's all."
“Bu-but I also have the right to know!” I said still insistent.
"So do I."
Someone suddenly entered. He whispered while carrying white powder.
He touched it with his little finger.
“Ow, Fentanyl,” Superintendant Mcpherson said after licking it off.
"Well, looks like you need a bad dream tonight. Your friend seems to have been poisoned,” he added, holding out the white object. "One of my friends found this in another friend's pocket."
The person who was called the Superintendent added several items found at the crime scene. Gwendoline immediately took note of it.
Then I got out of the interrogation car. While from a distance I saw someone accompanied by police officers. She struggled when she was about to be taken.
"That is not me! I'm not guilty!"
Her eyes glanced at me. Apart from her tears, my feeling told me that those eyes slightly implied her protest. Even though long before I was always not happy to be around her.
"It's Sonia!" Beckey said.
Several friends approached me.
"Are you alright?" added Pebble sadly. "I didn't expect it to be Sonia. Isn't she always nice?
“By the way Beckey, where were you from?” asked Verdamant in an accusing tone with suspicious face.
Beckey answered in detail about our fishing activity, while I was still racking my brains.
"Hey, Verd, how did it go?" Gwendoline asked curiously.
“O-oh, Gwen, huh? I don't understand clearly, but Isa said…,”
Verdamant explained the whole incident back then. While I'm still shocked by what happened. But none of the explanations I missed.
"You leave it to Isa?"
"Yeah, I'm a carton of milk. Verdamant stuffed bread. But it seems to have brought from the others as well,” Pebble explained clearly and gently.
Gwen nodded, she made notes in her little book.
"How about you?" she asked Higgs.
"Well, it's not like we have a lot of money, so- me, Roddy, Rodriguez, Colt, Gabbi, and Chandler came together to buy Aunt Edelweiss's Cookies, so-"
“Cookies? But it wasn't at the crime scene," Gwen protested, narrowing her eyes.
"Why are you here? Don't play detective! Why do you care about us? You also have your own business!” Roddy said angrily.
'Stop it!', I said to myself.
"We are not very smart, but there is pride!" he added, tugging at Gwendoline's collar. "If you don't believe your shallow brain, ask your mother, you malnourished short!"
'Stop it!', I muttered. But this time my brain stops, my actions move. Seeing Gwendoline's frightened face, of course, wasn't cute. It just makes my blood rush.
I reached for Roddy's hand, I took a circular motion. Using the pressure on my back, Roddy was knocked unconsciously onto the ground. Instantly they walked away from me. I can understand the overwhelming feeling of fear, it happened when my brain was antiquated to two.
“Ma-mark? W-what are you doing?” he groaned in pain.
"Teaching you a lesson, so you understand how important it is to behave," I replied gently.
My position was ready, I looked at them with disappointment.
“Higgs, is that true?”
“Y-y-yes! You can ask that anyway! Gee, you don't have to go that far, do you?" He replied with a little fear.
After that I reached out my hand to Roddy. Meanwhile Gwendoline had recorded everything.
"Hm… you," Gwendoline pointed out.
"Yes?"
"You are in the same class as Sonia, right?"
"Yes. What is it?"
James immediately knew from Gwendoline's expression and his hand ready to write.
"So what? He didn't say anything to me. I wasn't even there earlier. Class B and I play tennis, in Harrogate, it's only 6 minutes from here. Superintendant Mcpherson has also confirmed us after all,” James said sure.
“T-that's right! Sonia came alone!” Isabeau added. "If I'm not mistaken she brought a pack of oranges. Isn't that right, Eldritch? Rebecca?”
They nodded instantly.
"We crossed paths with her." Said Eldritch, a girl with dark bags under her eyes.
“She even looks sick!” Rebbeca added while adjusting her glasses. "She was wearing a mask and looked a little weak."
Gwendoline wrote down their testimony. But I really doubt what Isabeau said.
"In that case-"
I interrupt.
"Hey, isn't that weird, James?"
James nodded. We tell the truth.
"Are you sure it's Sonia, Mark?"
When she asked it was a bit burdensome for me. But when I turned to James, he nodded in agreement.
“Well, she once ignored my question. At least I know it's her," I answer that straightforward.
James nodded hesitantly.
Then Gwendoline asked what Isabeau and the others had brought.
“I got a bottle of orange juice, Eldritch and Rebbeca got some grapes. Of course I brought it all, " she added a bit panicked. “O-oh that's right! I also saw that there were oranges there! N-not only oranges, there are sweet buns too!”
“Mmmhmm… I still don't understand this Sonia thing. How can Sonia be a doppleganger? I mean it even carries the same stuff,” Gwen asked me.
This is what's confusing. But for the doppleganger question, I'd better ask the person directly. Now who brought the sweet buns? But if the question is not answered I don't have a problem. Our class is only 20 people. So it's possible that something in Gwendoline's notes hasn't been recorded. That person is the answer.
It's just why this feels so weird. Why were the police able to find fentanyl in Sonia's pocket? What really happened? Then through what poison was entered?
"That's me, sweet bun," The girl with black skinned raised a hand. “And there should be spicy instant noodles. But Miss Beagle wouldn’t allow it, so she ate it. Right, Miette?”
“Yeah like Bernice said, I thought Foscow was cured. So I thought I gave him my secret food, hell spicy!” said the brown curly haired woman with a melodramatic expression and voice.
"Sounds suspicious,"
“Well, whatever it is but she's right. Foscow said that too," I said confirming Bernice and Miette. Oh, I just found out that the spicy noodles are from them.
Yorkshire regional police officers headed our way, along with Sonia.
"Listen up students. As you all know, a fentanyl was found in this lady's pocket," he added, showing me a vial. “But, we found the poison in this vial. Can either of you confess?”
Isabeau stepped forward frightened and worried.
“Good girl,” then he told us rather sternly. “All those who have been interrogated to stay out this place! The inspection lasted a week, and no one was allowed to go out. Don't even try, because we have eyes around, or you'll be sorry!”
After that he left. We disbanded. This incident is more greedy time-consuming. They also look tired. I need some explanation from Sonia. Of course it had to come straight from her mouth. But looking at her face, I think the time is not now. Gwendoline had even put the little book in her pocket again. All the teachers also returned to their respective rooms. At least I didn't have to worry about Isabeau. After all, the Beagle was still with the officers, and James was there too.
