The weather outside was cold and harsh.
There were mounds of snow and frozen ice spikes protruding out of the layers of snow.
But underneath all that was a ruin. When humanity was still around they built cities with unimaginable splendor. All since lost underneath the ocean of frost.
In the middle of a large frost crater, a large scavenging operation took place there. A company by the name of Newcastle Foundation was there to get something of any technological value from the ruins buried underneath. They hired a scavenger crew to excavate the area.
3 Newcastle Agents were sent to oversee the excavation process.
Inside a temporary office, the 3 Newcastle Agents were talking with the chief of the scavenger crew.
"I'll be honest with you, I don't think we would get anything of even a slight bit of value here," The chief said as he sat on a chair, twisting one of his robotic hands as to pass the time, "Nothing but snow, ice and... more ice,"
"You just worry about the work and we'll worry about the results," A woman with long silver hair in front of him said.
That woman is Xel'Ryah, a Half Dragon Hybrid and a senior agent of the Newcastle Foundation. She is known to be calm and cold person.
"But Dr. Xel'Ryah there hasn't been any findings for almost a week now," A younger girl stood beside her said, "The higher-ups are getting impatient as you said,"
That one was a Half Feline Hybrid by the name of Alysia, she is often considered as Xel'Ryah's personal assistant. A cheerful and hardworking girl.
"I know something is down there," Xel'Ryah responded, "I can feel it,"
"Well if you say so," The chief replied, "The only the thing I could feel however is the damn cold,"
As the two continued discussing, Alysia noticed one of her colleague standing near a window, looking outside even thought there barely anything visible thanks to the blizzard.
That one is known as Kel'Zal, another one of the Newcastle Agents. She has a large scar on her face, giving of a fierce look.
Alysia decided to walk over and talk.
"Hey Kel! What's on your mind there?" Alysia asked with her usual cheerful smile.
"Oh uhm nothing really," Kel'Zal replied. Her voice was surprisingly soft compared to her harsh appearance.
She never talks much to people, except those few who were familiar with her. But Alysia knows her too well. This isn't the first time that Kel'Zal is not telling the truth.
"Come on, I know the face you make when something's up," Alysia said.
"Hmph, always observant..." Kel'Zal sighed, "I just have a bad feeling about this..." She admitted.
"What kind of feeling?" Alysia questioned.
"...it's probably nothing," Kel'Zal shrugged, "Just ignore me,"
Alysia looked at Kel'Zal, her eyes narrowing. She knows Kel'Zal too well to believe what she's saying.
After a while, there was suddenly a radio message. The chief picked it up and listened intently, his expression changed to that of surprise.
"Well ladies, it seems that we found something," He said.
"Really? what is it?" Alysia asked in excitement.
"You can check it for yourself, I just told the boys to haul it back up and into the workshop," He stood up and walked past them, "Oh and uhhh... better get warm, were going to go for a walk,"
The four went towards the exit and wore heavy clothing.
When the door opened, the freezing wind instantly blew in.
"Damn it's cold!" Kel'Zal complained.
"Do you want to borrow my jacket?" Alysia joked.
"Oh shut up," Kel'Zal scoffed.
"Come on, you two," Xel'Ryah said.
They walked out into the blizzard.
It felt like an eternity until they reached their destination.
The small group approached a small mound that lay in the middle of the field. There a was metal entrance, and they quickly got in.
Inside there was a large amount of the scavenger crew was in there, looking at the thing that was hauled up.
The 3 Newcastle Agents got closer to inspect it.
"It's just a chunk of ice..." Alysia said disappointed.
"Are you blind? there's something in there," Kel'Zal told her.
"Huh? Oh no I see it! it's a body!" Alysia exclaimed.
"Well, come over here and let us take a look then" The Chief said.
The Agents looked at it for a while. it was hard to notice but it looked like a humanoid in a kneeling position.
Alysia looked at Xel'Ryah, she had a dumbfounded expression.
"I maybe crazy to think this but..." Kel'Zal looked at them both, "Is that a human?"
Then the entire fell silent, there was mix of shock and excitement in everyone.
A human in this day and age? After centuries since they were considered extinct?
But then Alysia broke the silence by saying, "I don't think so,"
"look here at the back of it," She pointed out, "There's like... Two large tendrils... Things sticking out from it's back,"
"A human doesn't look like that" She added.
"Kel'Zal maybe right..." Suddenly Xel'Ryah said, "It may not be human... but it may be..."
Xel'Ryah placed her hand on the chunk of ice, "A Primordial,"
Alysia and Kel'Zal stared at her for a while, "Where have I heard that before..." Alysia asked.
"Well it's a quite a long and... complicated story," Xel'Ryah answered, "A simple explanation would be, Primordials were the name we used to refer to a select few humans that were modified to such a... abnormal extent,"
"Created with the purpose to serve, mostly to destroy threats and protect humanity," Xel'Ryah continued, "You know the stories when we were told as children? beware the Nightcrawlers? Well the story was inspired by them..."
"So basically we unearthed a death machine?" The chief said.
"Technically, yes" Xel'Ryah answered him, "But it seems to be dormant, it could be dead and the ice preserved it,"
"Anyways we should-" Suddenly the light went out, then the alarmed went off.
The scavenger quickly scattered and the chief took out his radio.
"What's happening?" Alysia asked worried.
"Infestation!" He shouted, "They're coming out of the Excavation site!"
"We need to get out of here now!" He added
"We are not leaving the Primordial here!" Xel'Ryah said, "Have it move to the cargo area!"
"We have an infestation on site and you're worried about that?" The chief responded, the panic in his voice is obvious.
"Just do it, well handle the rest!" Xel'Ryah convinced him.
The chief groaned, "To hell with it! fine!"
The chief quickly went to a nearby control panel.
After pressing a lot of buttons, the platform under the chunk of ice started to move.
"There! it should be there in a few moments but I'm not waiting around to see it through," He shouted, "I'm getting my boys out of here! You should do-" Suddenly a large creature made from flesh and bone pounced the chief.
Before Xel'Ryah could do anything, the creature tore his head off.
Kel'Zal moved fast and managed to strike the beast with her flaming sword before it could attack Xel'Ryah.
Injured, it ran away but it won't be long until it comes back with a lot of friends.
"You alright?!" Kel'Zal asked.
"I'm fine!" Xel'Ryah said, "Quick, we must go to the cargo bay,"
"Alysia! Try to call Sparrow, and tell him to get here right now!" Xel'Ryah pulled out a gun before going through the hallway, followed by her colleagues.
Kel'Zal led the way through the dark and bloody hall. She was fast enough to react and kill any infestation she found.
Xel'Ryah and Alysia followed, armed with firearms.
"Another day! Another Infestation!" Kel'Zal complained, "We never get the easy ones can we?"
"I don't know, we seem to be good at running for our lives every time this happens!" Alysia laughed.
"Now! is not the time!" Xel'Ryah said.
After a while, they reached the cargo area outside.
The blizzard was even stronger than before, they could barely see past the raging storm.
Fortunately, the platform had lights so they managed to find it pretty easily. But the threat is still there, and they all kept caution.
"Alysia... where's Sparrow?" Xel'Ryah said almost whisper, trying not to get the attention of any of the Infestation.
"He should be on his way..." Alysia replied, "He's probably late... again,"
Finally, a bright light showed itself in above them, signaling that Sparrow's arrival. The moment the light appeared, another wave of monsters rushed out of the portal, heading straight to them.
"I thought that we had dealt with most of them already!" Alysia shouted.
"If you really thought that, you are an idiot" Kel'Zal told her bluntly.
"That wasn't very nice!" Alysia replied angrily.
"Let's deal with these things first, okay?" Xel'Ryah suggested, "Kel'Zal take this side! Alysia, get the chunk of ice on the ship!"
coincidentally a ship came down as she said that, it was Sparrow. Another Newcastle Agent. The back of the ship opened, and there stood a young man with small wings on his back and claws as hands.
"Well, seems like you ladies are in trouble again!" Sparrow yelled in his usual loud tone.
The 4 Agents managed to fend them off and secure the Primordial, escaping with their lives and with only minor injuries.
