Earth.
The place where Humanity began.
It was once a planet with advance and magnificent cities built across the entire, yet still managing to preserve much of the nature and it's beauty.
It was also the planet where trade was most abundant. The planet strived of the materials and exotic things brought from other planets.
It was the jewel of the human empire, but also where the infestation began.
No one knew how it happened or if humanity was responsible but it spread like wildfire.
It was also the time of the 2nd Hybrid Rebellion, when the hybrids started to unite and conquer.
To prevent fighting on two fronts, humanity was forced to bombard earth with cryo-nuclear bombs. They didn't know any effective way to kill the Infestation, they hoped that this will at least slowed the down.
That's why Earth is now the barren planet that has more that half of it a snowy wasteland, and the other filled with ruins and dust.
The 4 Newcastle Agents were on their way to a new mission, another excavation mission to dig out any valuable technology.
When they arrived, the entire site was in lockdown. When they landed and left the ship, they were greeted by the female supervisor that run the excavation.
The cold was still unbearable no matter how many times they were outside.
"You 4 must be from the Newcastle Foundation!" The supervisor greeted, "Come on, let's talk inside!"
He led them into his office. The room had a large window looking out into the wasteland and towards the North. There were shelves stacked along the sides with books on them.
The supervisor gestured for them to sit down.
"So I know you would want to know if we found something," the supervisor said.
"So, did you?" Xel'Ryah asked.
"Well, we did actually..." She answered.
"I here a 'but' coming," Sparrow muttered.
"But we ran into some problems," the supervisor continued, "We were unable to bring it back up, the risk was too high,"
"What did you find?" Xel'Ryah asked.
"We're unsure, we didn't want to wake up the entire hive," the supervisor answered.
"Great, infestation" Kel'Zal groaned, "Again..."
"The entire site is currently in lockdown and everyone is on edge," the supervisor added.
"We aren't leaving it down there," Xel'Ryah said.
"We're aware of that," the supervisor said, "But we don't dare enter the site without authorization unless absolutely necessary, especially after last time."
Kel'Zal, who didn't like it, growled under her breath.
The supervisor put his hands together and looked between the four.
"This may be a stupid idea, but you could bring it back here," the supervisor suggested, "I heard that you four are..
experienced with the infestation,"
"That sounds perfect," Sparrow smirked mischievously, "What could possibly go wrong?"
"We serious?" Kel'Zal asked.
"Like I said, we're not leaving without it," Xel'Ryah said, "We're going in,"
When they armed and prepared themselves to head down to the infested excavation site, Kel'Zal noticed how... bothered Alysia looked.
"You alright, Alysia?" She asked.
The blonde girl jumped and turned around.
"Yeh, I'm fine!" She said nervously.
Kel'Zal rolled her eyes in disbelief, and then proceeded to lead them to the hole.
After climbing down, the first thing they noticed was the dead infested.
They were told that some followed the crew back but managed to deal with them.
But since they are going into a hive, there's not just more down there. A hive is where these infested are born, so there are technically an infinite amount in there. Thankfully though fire can destroy hives and infestations easily.
That's why Kel'Zal has a flaming sword with her.
"You do have a plan on how to drag this thing out?" Kel'Zal asked.
"We can put wheels on it," Sparrow joked
"Don't be stupid!" Kel'Zal sighed.
The group continued to the depths. Passing through tunnels of ice and machinery.
Eventually they reached what looks to be a remnants of a large door. It looked like it was forced open as the door were laying on the ground. The continued along and found themselves in a room. There was something there, some sort of sphere was sitting on a pedestal.
"I expected it to be... bigger," Xel'Ryah said.
"That's what she said," Sparrow joked again.
Xel'Ryah glared at him before looking back at the sphere.
"It seems that the infested isn't around here," Kel'Zal said, "Which is strange I keep hearing noises, like something was stalking us,"
As soon as she said that, something rolled pass them. It was small and cylindrical. It was a bomb.
Before Kel'Zal could say anything, a silent but bright flash appeared and blinded them all.
Kel'Zal was disoriented but she could see what looks like 2 people. A Half Reptile Hybrid and A Half Serpent Hybrid, wearing the same outfit as the workers.
She could hear them arguing before they opened up a portal with a small contraption.
Then suddenly a bang, a gunshot passed Kel'Zal and managed to hit one of them in the shoulder. She turned around and saw Alysia pointing her gun at them.
The Half Reptile Hybrid threw a dagger which hit Alysia's right shoulder.
The two quickly retreated into the portal with the sphere.
Even though they were gone, Alysia kept shooting. Kel'Zal grabbed her by the arm and stopped her.
She looked at her and saw the expression of fear on her.
When everyone managed to recover from the flashbang, they calmed themselves.
"What the hell was that?!" Sparrow shouted.
"Was that a portal? Impossible!" Xel'Ryah said.
"Can you two keep it down!" Kel'Zal whispered, "We should get out now!""
Then, they heard it.
A sound, a voice, a scream.
The sound of the Infestation coming.
