It has been a long day.
The group has been walking for God knows how long, the maze-like tunnels made the journey longer than it should. But they preserved and eventually they managed to find the Orbital Cannon, a chance for them to get out of the infested tunnels.
They were all quite shocked to see the sheer size of the Orbital Cannon, tall as a mountain and sturdier than steel.
"Look at the size of that thing!" Kel'Zal exclaimed, "It's huge!"
"That's what she said!" Sparrow joked, he then got smacked on the back of his head by Kel'Zal.
"That's not even all of it," Xel'Ryah added, "The tip of the cannon is covered in ice,"
"Then we must be under one of those massive spike glaciers," Alysia said.
The group approached the base of the Orbital Cannon, it was well preserved under the ice.
"So, our plan is to blast the ice using this, and then climb out... assuming we survived?" Kel'Zal asked.
"Got any better ideas?" Xel'Ryah said.
"Sometimes dying would be preferable..." Kel'Zal sighed.
"Hey!" Xel'Ryah exclaimed, "No one is dying!" She pointed out.
"If you say so," Kel'Zal said, "Alright, what do we need to do?"
"To use the Orbital Cannon, we must turn on the power underneath the cannon itself," Vulcan explained with his synthetic voice, "We would also need get a missile from a nearby weapon storage which should be over there,"
"A missile? for this thing?" Sparrow said, "You know what, why don't you two go? You two have the strength of a gorilla,"
Kel'Zal and Xel'Ryah glared at him.
"What? not my fault that Half Dragons can lift several tons of weight!" Sparrow said defensively.
Xel'Ryah and Kel'Zal turned and headed off toward the storage after receiving directions from Vulcan. Thankfully, I wasn't covered in ice.
"Alright where's the on button for this thing?" Sparrow asked.
"An entrance to the underground section should be nearby," Vulcan answered.
"Guess I'll go find it," Sparrow said before leaving, "Alysia stay here,"
"What? why?" She asked
"Because I'll be right back,"
Sparrow went out of sight, leaving Alysia and Vulcan alone together.
"So, tell me," Alysia asked, "What's your opinion on humanity?"
"No words can explain their greatness," Vulcan explained simply, " They may have their flaws, but even you race had flaws when you were created,"
"I suppose that's fair enough, but still," Alysia trailed off, "We have never done anything wrong, and yet, they despise us because we are not human,"
"Because the creation of your people was perhaps the most... controversial of Humanity's many achievements," Vulcan responded, "No one can truly understand why, except for themselves,"
Then something clicked in her mind, she decided to ask about it.
"Do you know anything about the Primordials?" She asked.
"Hmm... I have no data about the Primordials," Vulcan answered, "What is a Primordial?"
"It's umm," Alysa went silent for a moment before answering, "Ancient humanoid robot... Used for war and something... It's a weapon basically,"
"Is it perhaps a Seraphim?" Vulcan asked.
"What's a Seraphim?" She asked, confused.
"The saviour of humanity, beings that defy all logic and represent their will and wrath," Vulcan answered, "But at the cost of their own humanity,"
"I'm not sure if it's the same," Alysia said, "But I think we found one... Maybe anyways,"
"You found a Seraphim?!" Vulcan asked excitedly.
"Uh yeah, sort of," Alysa replied, she wasn't expecting him to get so excited at the mention of one.
"I have never seen a Seraphim with my own eyes before!" Vulcan said happily, "It's a once in a lifetime opportunity!"
"Vulcan... you have no eyes," Alysia chuckled a bit, "And I don't think you can age,"
"It wouldn't matter," Vulcan said, "I would still be able to experience the miracle!"
"Many historical events that happened after the 2nd Hybrid Rebellion had some Seraphim intervention," Vulcan continued, "What does it look like? Did it look as magnificent as the stories say?"
"No.... not really," Alysia answered honestly, "It looks different, it's kind of bulky and... I think it might have horns?"
"Hmm... strange," Vulcan said, "I will need to investigate this further,"
Meanwhile, Xel'Ryah and Kel'Zal just entered the storage compartment,it was filled with large missiles. There's even some ancient weaponry placed around.
"What's this?" Kel'Zal thought, she picked up some kind of metallic ball on the floor. They were small and attached to a long strap.
"That's a bandolier of grenades," Xel'Ryah said, "Be careful with it,"
"Well this might prove useful later," Kel'Zal wrapped the bandolier around her, "Anyways, don't suppose you have an idea on how to move an entire missile?"
"Well we can either lift it up like Sparrow suggested or use that cart lift over there," Xel'Ryah answered, "Take your pick,"
"Just grab the damn cart lift," Kel'Zal sighed.
As they tried to move the missile carefully on to the cart, Sparrow just found a way to the underground section of the Orbital Cannon.
There were signs of infestation, but he continued on with more caution than ever.
He treaded lightly through the dark metal room until he found what looks like a control panel. He looked around through the dark until he saw a big red button.
"This either turns it on... or explodes it," Sparrow took a deep breath before pressing it.
It made a loud sound before the lights turned on.
"Oh great it's the ON button," Then he realized something, in front of him was a window overlooking the power core that powers the Orbital Cannon.
And around the power core was the heart of the Hive. He could hear the roar of the infestation.
"Well damn,"
