As a kid around 8 years old, I used to have two dreams that used to freak me out.
One was the 'Upside Down' dream, and the other was the 'Counting' dream.
It was a dream where i would be climbing up stairs carved into the side of a huge mountain.
It was such a towering one that you couldn't see over the edge, except for floating piles of hay way down below.
Everything else was black and swirled, like the inside of a Magic 8 Ball.
I'd be walking and all around me would be a disembodied voice just saying numbers.
I'd be counting too; just firing off random numbers as I walked.

It always got worse where the voice got louder and more horrifying. It sounded like one you'd hear from someone with no life left in them.
I'd try to run, but couldn't, because of the stairs never ending.
Actual numbers would swirl in the air. Still, I'd be counting like a trance.
Then, I'd slip.
My whole body would turn like I had been shoved, and I would just be trying to grab anything before I fell.
You know that feeling when you fall in dreams and your whole body jerks?
That's what happened to me.
Instead of the hay catching me, I'd fall through it as the counting still happened.
I'd wake up crying and calling for my mum.

I know it's more like a nightmare, but as a kid we both referred to this as the 'Counting Dream'.
There were a few times where I'd get in there and scream that I wasn't counting, but it'd always happen.

Fucked up, I know. I haven't had it since a kid, thankfully. I hated that damn dream.
