I hung the "Closed" sign on the colorful, glass door and turned to meet Liam, who was waiting for me on the sidewalk. He smiled at me, "Ready to go?," he asked sweetly. A grin seeped across my face, "Yeah, I'm gonna destroy you at the arcade", I said mischievously, "I highly doubt someone as scrawny as you can beat me in 'Dance Dance Revolution'", he answered, grinning at me.
We walked briskly to the arcade, almost racing each other and stopped in front of the front double doors. The arcade's neon sign gleamed at us, it read "The Throne Room Arcade". We both looked at each other, as if to gain acknowledgement, and raced inside, trying to get to the token machine before the other. I won that race and fed the machine a twenty dollar bill. The machine spat out 100 tokens for me to spend on the wonder on neon lights, action-packed fun, and way too many tickets. "Got enough tokens there?" Liam, asked, leaning against the wall with a sly grin on his face, "Not nearly", I said sarcastically.
Liam and I walked over to the empty "Dance Dance Revolution" and we both pushed in a token into the coin slot. The peppy, hip-hop-like music sped up and it gave us a short tutorial of the controls. Then, the game started. It started off fairly slow until it ended up speeding up. Liam and I were working up a sweat as we started gaining attention from spectators, who noticed us climbing the charts on the high score board. "Had enough yet?", Liam huffed, his bounces slowing slightly. "Of course not yet, I won't be done until you're defeated", I sighed, my breaths quickening with each movement. We continued to dance until we hit the final level. Our movements were swift, but slightly sluggish from our fatigue. I felt motivated to get a higher score than Liam. My motivation gave me a boost of energy, which led me to get ten perfect's in a row.
After the level finished, the game calculated our scores. Liam's score came out to be 60,453 and my score came out to be 60,454. It was phenomenal. I had beaten Liam by a single point.
Liam groaned, "Ugh, I think we need a rematch, that is just too close to tell," he complained. I snickered at him, "I don't think it is close at all, you can read can you?", I said, wickedly. "I can, but anyway, I'm tired and hungry", he said, signaling for the door. "Sure, let me cash in the thousands of tickets I collected though", I answered, nodding my head.
After that, I went to the ticket counter and got the biggest stuffed animal that I have ever seen in my life. It was a giant, pink teddy bear that could barely fit out of the arcade's doors when I tried leaving with it. It had a giant bow that covered the entire scruff around its neck. I'd say that today was a good day.
