“How’s your ‘friend’ Liam” my manger teased me. “He’s fine, sir” I said trying to avoid an embarrassing conversation with him. “Okay...whatever you say, Ash. Now get back to work; we have a customer” my manager said as he pointed at a man. I walk over to the man to take his order.
”Wow, lovely place you work at, bunny boo” Seung, my ex said sarcastically. I really didn’t want to talk to him, after what he did to me last night. “Um, I forgot I had to restock the coffee beans” I lied. He gave me his iconic eye roll, that he always made when he’s pissed, angry, or when he didn't believe you.
I quickly ran to the back and started grabbing bags of coffee beans off of the counters, to look like I was committing to my lie. Seung continued to stare at me as I frantically put coffee bean bags where they belonged. As if sent by God, Liam walked over to me and started talking to me. "Are you okay?" he asked, giving me a weird look. I looked back at Seung and replied, "I'm fine", trying to hide my worried glance. Liam noticed, "Looks like I have a customer, I'll see you in a bit", he said, walking to the front of the counter. I watched Liam walk over to Seung's table.
I had stopped paying any attention to Seung and Liam, until I heard Liam's laugh. I whipped my head around to see Liam and Seung telling jokes with one another. I wanted to think nothing of it, but I couldn't help but feel heartbroken. A nasty thought came to my mind. What if Seung was trying to steal Liam from me?
I shook the thought out of my mind and went back to filling a canister with oat milk. Nobody would be that petty over a breakup. It was completely unheard of. That kind of stuff only happened in movies anyway. There’s no reason to get envious of this.
