The witch snickered as she dragged herself through the forest. Each step distancing her from the pack.
Placing a bloody hand on the rough surface of an oak tree, she took a moment in attempt to heal herself. But then remembered with detest that Merida managed to rid her of her powers temporarily.
But only temporarily, the witch believed. The moment she gained enough distance, she would settle and heal. And then revise her plan.
She was wrong.
Her intuition was wrong.
She should've known. She thought. But how could she?
The coven told her that the child died in him mother's arms.
Could her coven have been wrong? No, they never were. But maybe...
Darkness wouldn't be a threat if it were dead. It wouldn't have stood behind her sweet Merida if the one she threw to the wall was really Darkness. And the sound of the laughter that rang out in the cave was only the sound a man could make.
She wouldn't have believed it if she didn't see it for herself. She saw his form, his face. So that could only mean one thing.
The child of Darkness was alive. Elijah was alive. She was certain of it. She had to be.
When Merida had her teeth wrapped around her throat, she saw him. Standing behind his sister shrouded in his Darkness, laughing at her ignorance. Like a shadow hidden in plain sight.
Difficult to see but impossible not to notice once you do.
He terrified her. She admitted. And she only managed to accomplish one half of her goal.
She'd freed Merida. Or did she?
With the knowledge she now possesses, she doubted herself tremendously. But it didn't matter. She had a new purpose. One that she wouldn't fail.
She needed to tell Peter. She had to convince him that his son is alive.
Gathering more strength, she held her bloody wounds as she trekked across the open field. She remembered it well. It was the day she realized that they bought her, Mia, back into the pack.
It filled her with such remorse that she damned an innocent woman to such a fate.
If only she'd paid more attention to the shadows.
Was he there...the whole time? She wondered. Laughing at her?
The witch kept moving, determined to get to her cabin. She needed to be somewhere safe. Somewhere more protected than an open field.
But then she remembered. She'd nearly made a sacrifice here.
That was it. There was magic in these weeds. In this field. Magic that she managed to pull from that she-wolf.
The witch plummeted to the ground, and dug her hands into the earth. Here, in this field.
She focused intensely on devouring the magic from the earth. So focused that she no longer paid any attention to the ants that crawled underneath her knees.
So focused that she couldn't feel the breeze the night air. Nor could she hear the sound of the crickets.
The witch was so focused that she couldn't even hear the soft footfalls of the woman behind her.
Dressed in all black and without a single weapon.
Her silky black hair was still tied up in the same braids she wore that night on the hunt.
Misery peered out from under the surface of Kristen's eyes as they smiled.
