"No," Marlene responded, "I don't have a paper."
"Well, maybe I'm special then?" Lizard asked.
"Maybe."
The two fell silent with Nick's snoring in the background. Eventually, somehow, Lizard fell asleep. But not Marlene.
How could I know to trust them? she asked herself, They might not even be who they say they are.
After asking herself many questions to the trustworthiness of the two men far over in the room, she decided to try to get some rest. All that Marlene heard was Nick's inconsistent snoring and her own steady breathing.
Boom! The three woke up, startled by the sound of a nearby explosion, or something of the sort.
"What was that?!" Nick exclaimed, jumping up from his matress.
"We should check it out, it could be another person," Lizard said.
Marlene and Nick followed Lizard to the surface of the platform, and they all looked around. They spotted someone on the edge of the platform. They all rushed to the person, clearing themselves of any sleepiness. Once there, they saw a boy. He looked up in a terrified manner.
"Get away from me!" he screamed.
"It's okay, we're not going to hurt you," Marlene said, trying to calm the boy.
The boy looked up in surprise.
"Marlene?" His gaze fell onto Marlene. He recognized her.
