(Violet's POV)
My morning was absolutely hectic. I had stayed up far too late last night, and I was paying for it today. I groan and roll out of bed. I keep my hair down, not wanting to take the time to put it up. I wear black jeans and a tank top, my thoughts focused on getting to school on time. Grabbing banana as I run out the door, my backpack hanging halfway down my shoulder, I slip into Celine's car. She and Cleo arrive a few seconds later, carrying their bags as well. Maya slips into the seat next to me.
"What about the others?" I say, my bag in my lap.
Cleo rolls her eyes. "Evangeline's taking them to school."
We arrive at the small school in a few minutes, the four of us waving goodbye, and go to our separate homerooms. I walk into my class, where I spot the girl with the purple hair smirking in her seat. Great. Just great. I sit in the back, setting down my bag angrily. Look at her, thinking she owns the place. I clench my fists, not really listening to the teacher. It wasn't normally like me to be angry, but this girl had the audacity to sneak into my room. No, break into my room. I take out a piece of paper, doodling on it.
The bell rings, and I exit the room. Even though the school is small, I still get lost on my way to my first class. The girl is chatting to someone by the girl's bathroom when I give up and decide to ask for help. Gathering my courage, I strut up to her, which causes her conversation to come to a halt.
"Yes, Miss Half Hair?" She says, eyeing my outfit with a look of disapproval.
I roll my eyes at her. "Yea, I'm super lost. Can you please help me find honors biology?"
She nods, grabbing my wrist and guiding me to the classroom.
"Thanks. My name is Violet, by the way." I say simply, joining the class.
I apologize to the teacher, a young guy probably in his late twenties. I sit in the only available seat, which was located in the middle. I fetch my science notebook out of my backpack, sighing as I copy the notes down from the board. So far into my day, no one had caught my eye. There didn't seem to be an apparent 'popular' and 'unpopular' crowd here.
The class ends after what feels like forever, and I quickly find my way to art. Possibly the only class I'm looking forward to, I sit near the front. The girl arrives late, and the only seat left is the one right next to me. Sighing, I scoot my stuff over so she can place her various art tools down on the desk. Various pencils, pens, and sketchbooks line our table, some from her, and some from me.
The teacher, Miss Ensley, introduces herself and explains the first lesson to us. We would be drawing fruit. I walk to the table containing the plastic fruit and grab an apple and a banana. I find a sketching pencil among my things and begin the outlines of my fruit. Out of the corner of my eye, I notice that the girl's fruit already looks much better than mine. Annoyed, I add small details to my fruit and start shading.
After we finished our drawings and turned them in, Miss Ensley said that we could do free-draw. I wander over to the counter and grab a watercolor pallet, determined to beat this girl at her own game. She comes up behind me and pokes me in the side, causing me to jump a bit.
"I'm Azaelea." She whispers as she grabs a pack of colored pencils.
I shake my head, returning to the table. I set the paint down and fill up a small cup of water. I pick a small piece of watercolor paper out and several small paint brushes. Azaelea has already stared her drawing, which appears to be a self portrait. I let out a deep breath and start to outline a rose with the water. Petals formed before me, my hand gliding across the page. I take a glance over at Azaelea's paper to find her self portrait shockingly beautiful. I smile softly, but my hair shields my face from the girl.
I place the finished painting on a rack in the far side of the room to dry and leave the room quietly, as the bell has already rung. Azaelea still sits there, adding certain marks here and there to her own face. Arriving in the lunch room, I join my sisters at a table, setting my backpack on the floor by my designated seat. Maya follows me as I stand to go join the lunch line. It was long, and when I got my cheeseburger, it wasn't even hot. I wanted to go home and enjoy decently prepared food, unlike whatever this crap was. Cleo and Evangeline had gone to the Subway next door for lunch, so Maya, Celine, and I were left alone at the table. When Azaelea finally enters the lunchroom, she spots our table and walks over to it, taking a seat.
"Hello." She says, pulling a packed lunch from her bag. "I'm Azaelea Williams. I live next door."
My sisters mumbled greetings to the girl and introduced themselves, though I stayed silent. Finished eating, I pulled out a book from my backpack. Not sure what it was, I opened the front cover anyways. I started reading as the girl started talking with Celine about her eyeliner. I rolled my eyes, finishing the second chapter as the bell rang again. I walk to Algebra two, finding my assigned seat near the back. Of course, Azaelea's seat just so happened to be right next to mine.
For last period, I had World History two, which, thankfully, did not include Azaelea. Though she seemed nice, I admit, she had broken into my room. I also still hadn't found my heart pillow. Perhaps it had just gotten lost during the move. After finishing the worksheet our teacher had given us, the bell rings and I grab my backpack. I reach Celine's car, but not before bumping into a tall boy with black hair and honeyed skin.
"Oh, sorry." I mumble at the boy.
He eyes me for a second before addressing me. "Wait, don't you live next door to me? Big mansion, waterfall pool?"
I stop, spinning around. "Yes, yes I do. I don't suppose you would be the one who has the bedroom right next to mine?"
He nods, and I sigh. "You know, your sister broke into my room two days ago using your window. Try locking your door next time."
"I'll think about it." He laughs. "I'm Alex Williams, and you are?"
"Violet Renly. Now, I'm late to the car, I must go. Bye." I say, running outside and to the safe contents of the car.
Celine drives us all home and I run up to my room as soon as I step inside. I throw my backpack to the side and collapse onto my bed. I curl up for a short nap, and awake at five pm. Grinning, I decide that this time, I will be the one sneaking into someone's room. I unlock my window and perch on the window sill. Sucking in a deep breath, I jump, barely landing on the sill. I open the window and wave to Alex as I pass through his room. He just kinda stares at me, but I'm not here for him. I walk to a room with a hand painted sign on it, reading 'Azaelea.' Shrugging, I open the door. She's sitting in the corner, reading. I stifle a giggle and sit down on her carpet, waiting for her to notice me.
After maybe ten minutes, she looks up from her book and her eyes land on me. She smiles, which confuses me as I thought she would be mad. She closes the book and walks over to me, sitting next to me.
"Nice. Surprised you didn't fall and break something." She says simply, her purple and blue hair making her appear almost as a mermaid, or perhaps a siren. 1125Please respect copyright.PENANACA5TRJEvWO
Her bright pink lips complimented her round face, and I wondered how she could be so pale when her brother's skin was like the sun through honey. Her eyes were round, but they creased when she smiled. Her eyes are light brown, though they looked golden in the light of her room.
"I'm more elegant than you might think." I say, winking.
"Mmm, yes, now get out of my room before I get Creampuff on your butt." She says, smiling sweetly.
I was not sure what, or who, Creampuff was, but I was not willing to stay long enough to find out. I smile and exit her room, passing through Alex's room again. He shakes his head, smiling, as I climb back to my own house. I climb down the stairs and join my family for dinner. Sarah, our chef, prepared dinner for us all tonight, though neither of our mothers were home yet. I thanked her as she set the steaming dishes of corn and chicken down on the long table. My sisters chatted animatedly with each other about their days, but I didn't have anything interesting to say, so I stayed silent.
After dinner, I decided to go swimming. I donned a blue bikini and a towel, walking down the stairs for the billionth time today. Eleanor was already out by the pool, using the light from the porch lights to read. I drape my towel over a chair and dip into the pool. The water is fairly warm, as it was around eighty five degrees today, and it had all day to soak up the sun. I can see Azaelea's soft pastel hair next door, chasing a girl with long black hair around. I smile, dunking under the water and practicing handstands in the shallow end.
