I was settling into my new school just fine - a pretty good achievement considering the state of my emotions at the moment.
Mother and Dad were not really getting along well at the moment. I know that they were trying to hide it, not wishing to upset me and Kaito; but, no offence intended, they were doing a terrible job thus far.
It was pretty damn obvious. They wouldn't talk to each other or make eye contact. If they saw each other, they would just purse their lips and walk away like it had never happened.
I know I am meant to be the older brother - brave, daring, protector of the younger siblings - but when it came to this, I was nothing more than a helpless child. Perhaps that was what really scared me.
Kaito tugged at my shirt gently from behind.
"Can you play with me today?"
"Ah... I have homework... But I'll try."
"Arigato."
I watched him walk off clutching his stuffed panda. Not really looking for any reason; just staring aimlessly. He was only six, and didn't understand what sort of crap was going on. Luckily enough for him, at least.
Well, they do say that ignorance is bliss.
