"Ahh, the new recruit. You're here." A stocky woman looked up from behind the desk, but I could barely see her over the towers of paper that surrounded her. She was the definition of average, with her brown hair and brown eyes. Her white skin made her blend in with the never ending pile, and she didn't look happy about it. "I've been expecting someone to come along. Welcome to our place. I'm sure you'll find it comfortable. I'll send for a guide to guide you through the basics of what will happen. Blah, blah, blah." She turned back towards her paper work as I sat there, still as a statue. What was with this lady? 

"Um." I cleared my throat. "What's your name?" 

The woman looked up and glared at me. "You don't need to know that." 

Where was that guide? It had been more than ten minutes, and yet she still wasn't- A girl a few years older than me lurked in. 

"You called?" She asked impolitely. How does she speak to her boss like that and not get fired? Oh right, it was Mrs, I'm-Too-Cool-For-A-Name. She must tolerate anything. 

The boss only motioned towards me, yet the girl seemed to get her task. 

"Come with me." The girl's voice was brisk, almost as if she didn't want to lead me around. I can get why, I'm an irritating person. But heck, I'm still a person! Show me some respect. 

I followed her but barely listened as she led me down the many halls of what seemed to be my new home. When we got to the place she said was where I was to sleep, I just nodded and took a step. 

That was precisely the moment where my makeshift leg snapped. I went tumbling towards the ground and hit my leg on the door, snapping the already broken leg in half. 

But the girl helped me up quickly. 

"You'll be fine" She snorted, obviously taking in my terror. "But you do need a real prosthetic leg. I'll be right back." 

And with that, her grip left me as I fell to the ground in a giant heap of helplessness. I scrambled to get up, with no success. It was impossible to get up with only one leg, and I wasn't going to break that. Instead, I just sat there awkwardly as I waited for her, unable to get up. Wow, I looked stupid. 

Why the heck wouldn't she let me into my room first? I could've used that bed right about now!

She came back quick enough though, and helped me strap the high tech prosthetic in place. It took forever to put on, but I was sure that it was going to help me. I could tell it was top-notch, and as long as I had it, I wouldn't need a wheelchair. Good. 

"Don't ever take it off," She warned "It's nearly impossible to get back on." I nodded in agreement, before getting up and looking around at my new room. 

It was pretty......depressing. 

It had a plain, white covered bed on one side with a plain white desk and chair in the corner. The white-washed walls didn't help either, and the white tiles made it look like one step up from a prison cell. I thought that it couldn't get worse than my hospital room, I was wrong. In fact, the only bit of color was a red rose in a glass vase on the white nightstand. 

Wow, if that was the only thing I got that was colorful, this was going to make me insane. 

"I put that there to make it seem more welcoming." The girl started. "I thought the room needed some more color. I'm Danielle, if you need me." 

And with that, she disappeared, leaving me alone in this utterly depressing room.
