"Hey kid. Can we talk for a moment?"
Kadia opened the door and walked up to Kataya and shook hands.
"I heard about what happened. I hope you know your grandfather was one of our best. He saved many people. I knew him personally as well. He was a great man. One of the very best." Just then, the door swung open.
"What are you doing here Kadia?" Yokuviel asked.
"Helping him mourn. Something you failed to do." She said as she left the room and swung the door closed.
"Kataya, can I show you something?"
Yoku brought Kataya outside into a training zone, and slowly started to set up a straw dummy.
"Kataya, my biggest suggestion for you, is don't base all Ethers on your father. First of all, he was one of the strongest, and second of all, his abilities and strengths were unique."
"What do you mean?" Kataya asked.
"Before I explain further, first know that depending on the strength of a Ether, the more probability is involved within their Spark hole. However your fathers spark hole is completely uninvolved with probability. This is because all the power he gained was soul energy that wasn't his. So he had massive amounts of soul energy, but since his normal soul was weak, his spark hole didn't involve probability."
"Probability?" Kataya asked.
"The stronger the Ether, the more their energy from their spark hole seeps into their usual sparks. For example:" Yoku paused for a moment as the soul energy poured out of his body, turning from a bluish green to strings of yellow and purple.
"Soul Bond: Rio Rio. Variation: Gamblers High."
Just then, numbers above Yuko appeared, cycling through numbers 1-11 for all 3 numbers. Each of these numbers were not just on their own, but on top of a card.
The first number stopped. 7. The second number stopped. 5. Finally, the third number stopped. 9.
"Well, that was not planned."
Immediately, Kataya was frozen still, being physically unable to move.
"Kid, you need to channel as much soul energy around your body as you can. I planned to just get a number perfectly above 21 so that I could demonstrate, but I accidentally got a perfect 21. This simply means I gain 10 seconds of complete Universal Connection, completely connecting me to my alternate condition to mine, making it impossible to injure me. Usually if I only get above 21, it just makes me faster, and stronger."
"What was this meant to prove?" Kataya asks.
"It proves that some of the strongest Ethers have abilities completely based on luck. Mine is based on luck because I'm strong, but it's based on these numbers, well, because I like blackjack." He says, smiling.
Once the 10 seconds ended, Kataya was able to freely move again.
"You'll notice a lot of my abilities are based on luck or trickery."
He continues, "So for now, until your interview is finally scheduled, how about we have a fun spar?"
"Sure." Kataya says.
"First, I'd like to mention, everytime I get a perfect 21, my gamblers high ability is able to be redone again. I cannot do it multiple times in a row unless I get a perfect 21. You'll learn later how I would usually regain it. Kadia, can you come ref?"
"Fine Yuko. Everyone else will be watching as well." Kadia responds.
"That's alright. You ready Kataya?" Yuko asks.
Kataya nods his head in response.
"3."
"2."
"1."
"Go." Kadia chants.
"Spark: Concentrated Mass."
Immediately, Kataya notices his hands after his incantation. He has sparking orbs, seeming to be of pure soul energy, coming right off two of his fingers on each hand.
On both hands, he has pure soul energy coming out of his pinky, and pure soul energy coming out of his index and middle fingers.
"Kid, you should get moving."
Yuko makes a leap towards Kataya, and midway through his mouth starts moving.
"Universal Spark Plug: Perf..." And Yuko stops.
Kataya feels a weird sensation.
His body has been frozen, and so has Yukos. After about a second, they are both unfrozen, Kataya completely in disarray, as Yuko lands a stabbing punch into Kataya's stomach, causing Kataya to immediately expel blood from his mouth, and is sent flying into a tree.
"There is the trickery part buddy. If I ever start my incantation for my Spark Plug, if you ever believe it is truly me creating my spark hole, even if you have a little bit of doubt, your body is frozen so long as I don't move."
"Soul Bond: Combined Mass."
Yoku on both of his hands, push his middle, index, and pinky fingers together, combining the two glowing orbs.
"You have one minute to interrupt me."
Kataya, in an instant, leaps from the tree he crashed into towards Yuko.
"Yokuviel, how do I ever figure out what my spark powers and soul bond abilities are?"
"For you, you can create any abilities possible with your Spirit powers, however they are limited to your imagination just like soul bond abilities, but they take up the same amount of energy as a normal spark ability. To figure out your spark ability however is you have to just channel your spark ability into pure soul energy, and it will come to you."
"Spark: Interview."
At that moment, without even thinking, Kataya spoke. A metal table tore out from the ground, causing dirt to go flying everywhere. A metal table tore out of the ground behind Yokuviel as Kataya began another incantation.
"Spark: Train Station.
A metal train station bench tour out of the ground in front of Yokuviel, causing him to be caught off guard and keep his eyes off of Kataya for a minute.
Kataya, now on the ground for 6 seconds, is about 40 feet away from Yoku.
"Spark: Restaurant."
A giant wooden chandelier fell from above, coming from a tree. But as Yoku heard the giant Chandelier falling and he looked up for a second, he felt his feet lose their footing and fell into a carved out restaurant booth in the dirt.
"You've got to be kidding me. Is this your spark ability? Making items from certain places?"
"Shut. Up." Kataya says.
"Spark: Opponents Hell."
Yoku fell to his knees after crawling out of the booth and avoiding the chandelier as he grabbed onto his head, twitching.
Kataya's eyes lit up a bright purple.
"I got you now." Kataya says.
"Spark: Spirits Prison." Kataya says. As he speaks, there is almost a glint of guilt in his newly purple eyes.
Yoku, coming to his senses, stops and tries to get up on his knees, as he sees a metal bed in front of him, with pictures carved into metal plates.
"I understand my ability now. I have the power to summon key pieces of furniture from specific parts of the world. And if any of these specific pieces of furniture invoke a memory, specifically traumatic into my opponent, they completely freeze, and are forced to relive 30 seconds of it."
"Dad, let me out! Please!" Yoku screams.
"You're not my problem, you were never meant to be my problem. You want to know who did this to us? Your mother! She killed your twin sister. We wanted a girl, but in her attempt to kill her baby while it was in the womb, she killed the only kid I wanted!"
"You were a mistake from the beginning Yizu!"
"Dad, this isn't you! DAD, PLEASE!" Yoku yelled, but got no response as his father left the room.
"Looks like your father, our associate, left us a snack. Wait. You two see that right?" The monster looked to his right, to two other monsters.
"This thing has two souls. And a strong one at that. Good food."
"DAD!"
The boy yelled as he expelled all of his soul energy out of his body, immediately causing a giant explosion, killing the 3 spirits wanting to feast on him. And his father that was within the blast radius.
The boy ran to his fathers side, a completely charred body.
"This isn't you dad! Wake up... Please..."
Yoku finally opens his eyes, both of his Combined Mass's completely stopped, and slightly bleeding out of his mouth from punches to the gut.
"Yoku, I won. I stopped you from using your Combined Mass, and you are completely unable to move. I win."
Yoku was not speaking. He just stood up.
"Spark.. Rio, Eyesight."
"Spark.. Blood Travel."
Kataya feels the impact of shrapnel on his body as he is sent flying into the building where his guest room is.
"I felt shrapnel.. But there.. was none." Kataya says as he starts to spit out blood.
Kataya looks in Yuko's general direction as he sees Yuko's soul energy pouring out of his body. It is every color of the rainbow.
"Relax, Yuko!" Kadia yells. In an instant, Kataya witnesses as Kadia is sent flying into the forest from a thin beam of soul energy expelled from Yuko's fingers.
"...Soul Bond. Rio Rio, Variation: Gambler's High."
The numbers were difficult for Kataya to see, but he could somewhat see from afar.
9, 4, 8.
By insane odds.
A perfect 21. In an instant,
Kataya froze.
Kataya had just caused Yuko to evolve.
His invincibility was no longer 10 seconds.
It was 60.
