Oscar was eating a bowl of cereal on the kitchen table. Aunt Leona was sitting across from him reading the op-ed section of Martyr Daily.
"So have you chosen which college you'll be going to?" Aunt Leona asked with her eyes still on the paper.
"Tell me something I don't know." Oscar replied eating a mouthful.
The doorbell rang.
Aunt Leona stared at her nephew. "Were you expecting someone?"
Oscar got up. "Don’t worry. It's not my imaginary girlfriend."
He walked towards the front door and opened it to reveal Abdullah and his sister standing on his front steps. Concerned looks were on their faces.
"Hey." Amna greeted.
"Hey guys come on in." Oscar stepped aside and they entered the house.
"Who is it, Oscar?" Aunt Leona called.
"It's us, Aunt Leona." Amna called back.
"So what's up?" Oscar asked closing the door behind him.
Abdullah didn't say anything. He looked terrified.
What's the matter with him? Oscar thought.
"Do you guys want anything to eat?" Aunt Leona asked from the kitchen.
"No, we're okay." Amna replied.
"We have bad news, Oscar." Abdullah told him.
"What's the matter?" Oscar asked.
"Let's talk somewhere in private."
