A few days later, Harry was finally released from the hospital wing. The first thing he did was run down several flights of stairs, down to the dungeons, and Severus's office.
"Dumbledore cancelled exams." he informed his guardian the moment he sat down.
"I'm aware of that." Severus didn't look up from the essays he was grading.
"What about the O.W.L. and N.E.W.T. students?" Harry asked.
"You'll have to ask Dumbledore about that." Severus still didn't look up.
"What are we doing over the summer?"
"Whatever you want."
"Are we staying here?"
"Probably." Severus just would not look up! For some reason, this annoyed Harry.
"I'm going up to dinner."
"Okay."
Time for desperate measures.
"I'm gonna go hunt Voldemort."
"I thought you were going to dinner?"
He still wouldn't look up!
"Well, I thought that hunting Voldemort was a better way to spend my time." Harry improvised.
Severus obviously didn't believe him.
"Be back by tomorrow."
Harry left the room.

Term ended in eight days. That gave Harry the perfect time to play the prank on Severus he had been planning since the day he got out of the hospital.
Severus didn't believe that Harry was going to hunt Voldemort. So, why shouldn't Harry give him a reason to? He'd been planning this with Ron, Hermione, and Draco for a while, and couldn't see why it wouldn't work.
"Okay, guys, today's the day." Harry said to his friends. As Severus walked by, he suddenly dropped his voice, ensuring that Severus would want to know what he was up to and sneak up behind him to eavesdrop.
"I'm gonna go find Voldemort. I want to know why he went after my mum and dad, and this seems like the best way to do it. Dad won't tell me, so I'll find Voldemort and make him tell me."
"Good afternoon." Severus suddenly said from behind him. Harry pretended to jump.
"Oh, um, hi, Dad." he said. "I, uh, gotta go." he said hurriedly to his friends. "Um, homework."
And he scurried off.

Harry sat in a spacious room Fred and George had shown him called the Room of Requirement. He was going to wait here for a few days (class had ended) and lead Severus to believe that he had really left to hunt Voldemort. Then he would emerge, tell Severus he had finished Voldemort off, and let him ponder that for a few days. Then he'd finally tell Severus the truth. Hopefully Severus didn't do anything to drastic.
It was day four of five in the room. Ron, Hermione, and Draco periodically dropped by and informed him that Severus was going psychotic. He had searched everywhere for Harry, except this room, of course. Not many people knew of it, and Severus was not one of them. Harry was waiting out this last day. In the morning, he would show up at breakfast and inform Severus that he had disposed of Voldemort.

Harry walked into the Entrance Hall. Severus descended on him in an instant.
"Come with me, Mr. Potter." he demanded. Harry followed him down to the dungeons.
"Where have you been?" Severus immediately snapped.
"I was hunting Voldemort." Harry said.
"Don't play games with me, Potter." Severus growled.
"I killed him." Harry "informed" him. "Voldemort's dead."
"That's not true." Severus said.
"If you say so." Harry left the room.

Summer had started three days ago. The time had come to tell Severus.
"Dad?" he called, searching through the dungeons.
"Yes Harry?" Severus replied from behind him.
"Oh, you scared me." Harry said, turning around.
"What is it?" Severus asked.
"Voldemort's not dead." Harry said.
"Yes, I surmised as much." Severus smirked at Harry. "Where were you really?"
Disappointed that his prank had not worked, Harry decided that he would not tell Severus where he had really been.
"I really was hunting Voldemort." he said. "You think I could hide from you that long? I just couldn't find him. I figured I'd better not leave the country, especially since I'm not too great at magic yet."
Severus eyed him suspiciously. Harry walked away.
He was sure that this summer would be fun.
