Irene realized she still had some things to do before she can rest. She created a mass of energy to extend her reach, and ripped part of the ceiling off the top of the car. She jumped up to go through the opening but the energy on her hands shackled her to its location and she dropped like a rock. She took off the film from her hands, she wasn't sure how she can help Debbie without it; but she couldn't do anything from where she was.
She then jumped up through the ceiling hole and started to hop from car to car on the train. As she ran she saw another floating membrane of multicolored film, like the one she saw from within the train. She knew the consequences of holding it, but perhaps she could throw it and grab it later. As she ran up to the membrane, she gripped it and tried to throw the energy mid charge. However, it didn't move... instead the floating translucent sheet moved Irene roughly a few kilometers ahead where she would of thrown it. Irene wanted to take a moment and think what happened and how the levitating filiment teleported her but she didn't have the time to do so. She had to catch up to Debbie as soon as possible. She soon came up to another floating piece of film that she used to teleport further ahead once again.
She was teleported right in front of Officer Jardin who was running right to her. She knew she had to do something but she didn't have any floating film around her. She didn't know what to do so she covered her face defensively. What happened next she didn't expect; a man grabbed Jardin from behind, tackled him to the ground, began strangulating him while he was on top. The man was pale in complextion and shared Jardin's cold calculative eyes. But the similarities ended there, he had slicked back short hair, a thick military vest, skin tight gloves, cargo pants, and black military boots. He was of average height but had an extremely good physique. Everything the man wore was as black as midnight. Against his pale white skin it almost looked out of place.
Officer Jardin's panicked frantic movements started to slow as he gasped for breath. Irene watched as the man started to grin, he seemed to take pleasure from the idea of officer Jardin dying by his hand. But Irene caught his attention and his eyes widened. He spoke in a gruff authoritative voice to her "Get down!". Irene didn't have the oppurtunity to think what the man was saying, she just obeyed. She dropped to the floor of the train car ceiling. A mere second afterwards, the car went into a tunnel. She heard the men scuffling against the rooftop of the train car, somehow officer Jardin got loose from the other man's hold. Right before exiting the tunnel Irene heard a gun shot. When she finally saw what happened she realized the man had been shot in his shoulder.
Officer Jardin scrambled to his feet and ran to the edge of the train. He turned around, grinned, and saluted the other man. The way officer Jardin did so, it was evident that it's intent was to mock him. As he fell off the bridge the train was passing over. Irene watched as the man got up from the ground. As he did so, he was using other hand to cover his injured shoulder. He was not pleased about the situation and started speaking in a vulgar tone about his pardicament. He then looked over at Irene and yelled out to her "Don't worry about Jardin, I'll go after him! If you give a damn about this train though, find a way to stop it. If it gets to the next tunnel this whole train is going to blow". Irene reached out to the man, she had questions that she believed he could answer. But the man had no time, it was evident that he wasn't going to be satisfied until he saw the light go out of officer Jardin's eyes.
Just out of her reach... Irene watched this man as he leaped off the train's edge and was was at the mercy of gravity as he descended off of the bridge the train was using to cross the chasm below. She then remembered what the man said and realized if what he said was true; George was still in danger. She started running to the front of the train and kept hoping to find any of the floating sheets suspended around her. It was of no use though there were none. She just kept running even though she knew it was futile. Given the distance she needed to travel and how fast the train was going, she only had a twelve percent chance rate of success according to her probability indicators.
She ignored her systems though, it was worth the risk. While she was running she hit a break, she saw a piece of film floating off of the edge of the train. It was mere milimeters away from her outstretched hand's fingertips though. Irene backed up, got a running start, and lunged at the multicolored sheet. She barely was able to reach it but when she felt she had a hold of it she twisted her body and made a throwing attempt stronger than she believed her ability to do so. She was teleported to the front of the train, in the ramshackled conductor's room that Chief Jardin blew up.
She looked off into the distance and could see the tunnel fast approaching. Irene knew without the braking mechanism that the only way she was going to be able to do this was to find a way to make a new brake. She looked around for any luminescent sheets, but to no avail. She looked down to the floor feeling defeated, Irene couldn't believe that she had come this far only to fail now. But then a miracle presented itself to her, the dried blood that was on the floor of the train, began to glow the same multi-colored hue that the film was. She quickly reached out to it but found she couldn't wield it like a weapon. It was heavy; touching that energy shackled her to the spot where the blood was. Irene looked up to see the tunnel getting closer and closer.
She didn't have time to think and figure this out. She made a promise to a little boy, that was something that Irene intended to keep. She dropped like a weight to the bottom of the train and dug her heels into the railroad ties, Irene quickly used both of her hands and grabbed onto the energy substance on the train's interior floor. That bound her to the train before the railway pulled her under. The railroad ties began to crack, snap, and peel off the tracks as if made of cheap drywall. The pain was almost unbearable to Irene. Although well built she was never manufactured for this, her inner voice was blaring warnings and notifying her just how bad the damage really was. Irene refused to give in though, those officers may of killed everyone in the first car but she thought of all the people in the other cars they've passed.
All the families, friends, and all the children like George who were enjoying themselves. If she stopped now, they'd all die. Irene couldn't let that happen... She wouldn't let that happen. She closed her eyes and centered herself, she started to think of everything that happened during her short time on-line. She got to meet George and Debbie and watch all the people live their lives. She was so intruiged by those little things not to long ago. When she finally opened her eyes her vision was blurred by white fuzz. She did it... everyone was saved. Irene looked down to see that the majority of her legs were shattered beyond recognition and a five inch long piece of broken railroad tie was sticking out from Irene's side.
Irene knew that she had to get up but she no longer had the functioning capability to do so. She fell off the train from being to weak to keep hold of the energy points in the train. Irene fell between the broken railroad ties and plumetted to the ground. She watched as the tunnel in the distance exploded. The train was effected by the shockwave, moving slightly back a little, but otherwise all right. She wondered if Debbie was okay, she couldn't find her on top the train. Irene turned around and faced her rapid descent to the ground. She couldn't see all that clearly through the white fuzz. The last thing she witnessed before hitting the ground was a message within her mind say "EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN IMMINENT".
