There is always that one song, that one special song that you always go to when all else fails. For Angela, this was no different.
Angela Barrows, one red headed coffee barista, was taking the subway back for her apartment one Sunday afternoon. The day had to have been one of the worst she has had in months. If being late and it raining wasn't bad enough, certainly a call during lunch about the passing of her grandfather did not help the day improve. She hadn't been close to him, but it was the thought that counts.
A guy brushes past her seat and she glares after him, pulling her jacket collar closer to her neck. She flicks her hair back behind her ears cranks up the volume of her iPod.
What gives that she could not be left alone even on the subway to try to find peace? Okay, sure, New York probably was not the best place to find such peace, but she couldn't help that her art career hadn't taken off yet.
Angela notices that people are beginning to stand up and checks to see where they are. Oh, my stop. She gets up and follows the mob out of the metro. She shoves her hands deep down into her pockets, her silver headphones still blaring into her ears. Maybe tonight will be better. Maybe Will can come by after he's off work...
"Hey! Watch it, lady!" a man yells at her after he runs into her.Her iPod falls out of her pocket and crashes onto the cement.
"You watch it!" she growls back. "I was walking here, bub!"
The man snorts and starts walking away, stepping on her iPod in the process, with his nose up in the air.
Angela kneels on the ground and picks up the crushed remains of her iPod with a sigh. Her stomach knots up and she bites her tongue. She then shakes her head, shoving the pieces into her pocket and scurrying on to her apartment.
Her last reminder of her grandfather....Gone.
