“Happy birthday,” I whispered as I gently set the tulips just below the head of his gravestone. He has always been particular about flowers; he loved tulips but hated roses. He was always the feminine figure in our relationship. I had to flush the cockroach down the toilet while he hides in the other room. He was also allergic to flowers and adored them from afar, at least he can be with them now.
Achoo!
I immediately turned around and scanned the other graves. Not another living soul in sight. It must be my imagination. I looked back at his gravestone, reminiscing all the good times we had before that tragic day.
The sun refused to let me stay any longer. My grandmother always warned me to be home before the sun sets unless I wanted to be ‘spirited away’. It appears that the sun is trying its hardest for me to get ‘spirited away’. I wished him farewell before fitting in my earpieces and walking away. Dubstep was playing and I didn’t want to change it. He always preferred classical music, once again I became the guy in our relationship.
My hair startedflowing with the gentle breeze, he would be disappointed that I cut it short. A flower landed precisely in front of me and I recognized it instantly; frangipani. My grandmother told me many stories about how it was a bad omen and that malicious spirits are always tailing it.
Achoo!
The volume of my music dropped immensely for that one second to hear the sneeze. I rotated my head backwards to find nothing behind me. There was a cockroach scampering around but that was about it. Are cockroaches even supposed to be around here?
The sun was really starting to fall now, I quickened my pace as I headed towards the bus stop. It was not too far away, maybe a minute's walk to exit the cemetery and about another minute or two after that. Even though my pace quickened, I don’t seem to be moving any closer to the exit. I was walking for a good ten minutes before I started to freak out, something was definitely not right.
Out of the blue, a chill ran down my spine. It was like a thin, cold finger traced down my back. I jumped but was careful not to scream. My grandmother warned me about responding to anything that was not human.
It’s so cold... Make me warm again…
My music volume dropped once again to let me hear that familiar voice. I couldn’t take this anymore, I sprinted for the exit. This time I was making it, the exit was within reach. The beats that was playing was starting to build up for the drop.
I reached the bus stop just in time to see a bus coming my way, I flagged it spontaneously. The beats were still building up. The bus didn’t seem to be slowing down. I waved at it more vigorously, hoping for it to decelerate.
The beats were about to drop as the bus just sped past me. The driver's face petrified as I saw something from his side mirror. My music stopped completely.
I love you so much… stay with me..
A familiar gin...
