I obliged to what I was asked to do. Within minutes, we ran towards the conclusion of keeping each other's truths a secret. Gosh, it was so hard to keep mine. But the only thing which kept bugging me was that nothing supernatural had happened to her. Only ME! Well, what she showed me was great, really beautiful and I appreciated it.
She had started a YouTube channel a week ago. But on her channel, she never revealed who she was. So, it was only me who knew about her channel and her twin brother, Bryce. After all these years of friendship, what I know about her is dead to the world. She is a complete shy story on the outside but damn! A mischievous and talented person dwelled in her which only two people knew in this whole wide world knew about, Bryce and myself.
This channel was created for her music. She wrote the loveliest lyrics I knew and sang as beautifully as an angel with the harp. But in her videos, as I said, she didn't reveal who she was. She only recorded her lips, which she painted with my red lipstick, though she never wore it out in the open world. Anyways, this all introduction happened before I realized...
We had avoided the topic of me changing for a damn whole hour. Then, I felt my fingers heating up. Shit! For a second I thought my new nail art would melt to form China Glaze Goo. Nothing happened. Suddenly, I was under an effect of a calm shot. It felt like someone had installed a machine to calm me down in my head when I was asleep. Things stayed calm.
*Wake up, Wake up, Wake up, it's a brand new dayyyy!*
I woke up as soon as the verse reached my eardrum which was something unusual. I never heard any sound when I was asleep. What happened today? Oh, yes of course, the damn super powers.
The first thing that I thought when my mind cleared was 'Where the hell did Sunday go????'
At Bri's place, maybe, or maybe not. I looked at the alarm clock on my bedside table. Shit! Monday, 8:47am.
I skipped my bath and changed my clothes from teddy pyjamas to ripped jeans paired with a turquoise-colored jumper, white stone choker and white wedges. Minutes later, I was at my school before my locker, pulling out my sketchbooks and a pouch full of prismacolors, erasers, sharpeners, paper-stumps and some random rubbish. Heading towards the art class, I was humming a soft tune. Maybe All We Know by Chainsmokers.
"Hey! Debbi! Wait!" I turn around to see Tyler Woods, the heart of Presidency High, running. In my direction. My heart was almost in my throat. Once again a calm shot was sent through me.
"Um...I...How can I help you?" I blurted out. What can the famous Tyler Woods want from me, a miss-little-goodie-nobody?
"Can you please meet me in the music room just after lunch break? Got something important to ask. Wait. Are you wearing contacts? These ones look good on you. Anyways, catch you later. Bye." And spoof. He disappeared in the crowd, rushing to their classes as the warning bell rang.
My heart was racing again. What did he want to ask me? Why me? I looked around. A crowd had gathered. Why did he have to call for attention wherever he went? Damn. I pulled out my shades and put them on again. I couldn't risk my powers to anyone yet. But Tyler had noticed, hadn't he? How could he tell that my eye colour had changed? Was he spying on me?
Rest of the day at school was much better until drama class. It was the only class Bri and I were together, but unfortunately the worst class in my schedule, only to mention that it was Mr. Darson's class. We were asked to decide what we were going to do for the end of year production.
"A musical!" A familiar voice exclaimed. The one and only oh-so-famous, the American-guy-next-door type Tyler Woods. How could I not realize. Oh! Unfortunately, Bri was aware how much I liked this guy. It showed on my face like an open book for people to read. Unless they are stupid, and I mean really, really stupid.
"Yeah! That would be fun." Bri spat out without giving this load of trouble a second thought. She always tried to make me talk to Tyler, to bring me to his notice.
After finalizing that it would be The High School Musical, Mr. Darson handed us the slips to fill in what kind of part would we prefer to act out. I stuck with Kelsi because the other two roles were out of my reach. Gabriella Montez was sweet and black –haired and the one to steal everyone's heart. Troy Bolton was the handsome guy Gabriella loved and he in return, had feelings for her, too. But Sharpay Evans, she was the typical high school bitch paired with Ryan Evans. Basically, Troy and Ryan were the two most popular guys in high school, and Sharpay held that title by a landslide among the female population.
I didn't realize where the time went. The bell rang as soon as I handed in my slip. I walked out of the auditorium without any destination in mind. Bri was waiting for me outside; I realized when I received a nudge from her on my arm. We headed towards the cafeteria and a minute later, we were paying for our lunches.
It was just the minute I took the last bite of my falafel; I felt my cell phone vibrate in my pocket. I wiped my hands and pulled it out of my pocket. Some unknown number had sent me a text:
'Me waiting for you in the music room. Pls show up?'
So Tyler found my phone number. But who gave it to him?
I ran towards the music room when a strong arm held pulled me into the side bar of lockers. I panicked until I saw the face.
Tyler Woods. My heart was already in my throat. Huh...
"Why are you smiling?" Bri asked with an utterly confused look playing on her face.
Tyler said that he was paired with me for an English assignment. I remembered how Ms.Hudgens, our English teacher, had informed us of an assignment about biography of a friend. She thought that pairing up with someone from other class will get us to know more people and become more social, blah, blah, blah. So, we would be interviewing the person she assigns us and write about 'em.
"IampairedwithTylerforthebiography." I murmured, not sure whether I was happy or confused.
"What the heck Debb?! Speak Properly."
"I. Am. Paired. With. Tyler. For the biography." I finally said, feeling giddy with the calmness shot over me. Why did that happen? Oh God!
"That's a great news. When do you guys plan to start it?"
"Today after school. At my place."
"Wear something good, y'know. Your jumper's got the mayo stain. How 'bout the sleeveless button down shirtie with the shorts you're wearing. He'd melt his eyes just by looking at you."
"Would not!"
"Would too!"
"Would not!"
"Would too!"
"Would not!"
"Would so too!"
Ugh! She always won the battle. Maybe she was right. I trusted her dressing sense more than my own. But it wasn't like I wanted to impress Tyler, was it? But again. Guys should be the one wooing.
I rushed home to clean up a bit. Once I reached, I immediately started dumping the dirty clothes in the washing machine. Once done, I advanced towards my bedroom. It was dark. I opened the curtains. As soon as I touched 'em, a spark appeared and soon the curtain was lit with flames. I gaped at the sight. I felt a tornado growing inside me. Anemoi help me. I started blowing out the flame. Surprisingly, it took only one try. Great! I had blowing powers. (A/N: For those who don't know who Anemoi is, he is the Greek God of Winds.)
I shifted the position of my guitar on the chair to hide the burnt holes behind it. Soon I was changed into what i was asked to and the diet coke and gatorade was ready in the fridge. I thought of making sandwiches but then i chickened out thinking of ordering it from a restaurant. I was the worst possible person in the kitchen.
The door bell rang. I rushed to the door and opened it. There stood the expected one with all his glory. Even in a simple black skin-fit polo shirt and dark-washed jeans, his looked simply gorgeous. Females drooled over his lean-built frame and now I see why.
"Hey." It was the only thing I managed to speak while I tried hard not to stare at his abs like a maniac. I let him in.
"Hey! So...How do we start?" He said in a nonchalant tone. I felt small tingles throughout my body when he spoke. Why did he have to have an effect on me?
"We'll start with you first telling me something about you. I have exactly no clue who you are except for the part that you are our star quarterback."
"Cool then. I'm Tyler Cameron Woods and right now I'm eager to know you."
I smiled at him. Maybe I was grinning like some lunatic, who knows. I motioned him towards my bedroom. Luckily it was blue and not pink to indicate a proper girls arena.
As soon as he entered, he walked towards the guitar. Oh no! He picked it up. Great. He did not notice the hole. Thank fate.
"So you play guitar, huh?" I nodded in agreement as I pulled out my notepad and pencil.
"So tell me something about you. I don't know anything about you apart from the facts that you are my partner and you play guitar." I did laugh at this one.
"May I introduce myself, Sir. I am Debbi Alexis Stones and I'm honored to have you as my partner, Sir." We both fell into fits of chuckles.
"Great then. We know our names."
"So..."
"Yeah. Ya. I'm a football player whose been dreaming of Stanford University. I want to become a lawyer cum a bestselling author in future. And for personal life, I am an introvert. I can't make friends quiet easily. I live with my mom and younger sister. I've spent a major part of my life in Asia. I have no idea why am I the most popular guy in school and I hate partying."
Whoa! Not at all what I expected him to be like. Too much to gather all at once. I didn't know what my expression was at the moment. Surprised? Had to be.
"Oh. I did not see this coming at all! You said that you have trouble making friends. Any reason behind opening up to me?" I chirped enthusiastically.
" Actually, I have been trying to befriend you lately. But I have never had time for that. And when I did, you did not." He smiled the genuine smile anyone would die for.
"Well, are we friends now?"
"No doubt!" This was the first time I saw the ebullience in his eyes.
I was overflowing with glee.
