LOST IN SPACE
Capítulo 6: Glorious explosion!
The funeral of Lieutenant Juan was attended, unlike the funeral of Professor Garcia, since for the Nekoi honor was the most important thing and the murder perpetrated by the old professor hurt their honor, in the end, only Maureen and the Robinsons went to the funeral.
The Robinsons were retreating to their quarters, when Coyori abruptly ordered them to accompany her to Blair, who was waiting for them.
“What is the issue that the minister wants to address?” John asked, but the big catgirl just gave him a look of immense contempt and kept on walking.
“We don't have time, don't be so slow!” "barked" the cat girl.
“General, that's no way to treat our guests!” Suddenly shouted Char, who went to meet the group. Coyori did not stop her hurried walk.
“Are you telling me how to talk?” Coyori said, as her eyes glowed with a kind of internal fire.
“Someone must do it, General, and let me remind you that I am not under your command, my force has autonomy from the central command of the army.”
“We'll see about that, Captain, we'll see about that. And don't get left behind, walk faster!”
After a hurried walk that left the Robinson's agitated (Coyori was very tall and took huge, fast steps), the group arrived at Blair's office. The old woman looked worried, but smiled as she saw the Robinsons and invited them to take their seats along with Coyori and Char.
“I apologize to you, my guests, but I'm afraid we have a delicate situation at the moment," said the old fox girl in a concerned tone.
“You mean Lieutenant Juan's death?”
“A tragedy indeed, but I'm afraid that's not the reason for this private interview," Blair said and then passed the Robinsons a folder with several photographs inside.
"These photographs were taken with our orbital telescopes, a work that you know was promoted by Professor García," Blair reminded them, "look carefully at the photographs and tell me what you think.”
“But this... It's the robotech ships and the pirate base we encountered when we entered this universe!” exclaimed John.
“What I feared," lamented Blair, "according to the descriptions that Lieutenant Juan gave us, I assumed that the ships in the photographs were robotech-type.”
“You know Minister, are those ships operational?” Don asked. “When we were launched into this universe, our ship and the robotech ship were badly damaged.”
“Our scientists calculated the position of the stars and their continuous scintillation and it seems that both the pirate base and the ships suffered great damage because their displacement is minimal, but, far from any doubt, they confirmed to me that the pirates are heading for this solar system.”
“To this system?” Maureen said.
“Indeed, but it seems that the damage suffered by the pirates would allow us to carry out a course of action," said Blair and this time a light shone in her eyes, "we have in our possession your ship, Jupiter 2, we plan to put it on the same course as the pirate force. Looking at the deployment they will make to take over the ship, we will get some idea about the precise damage to the space base, as well as the robotech ships and their mechas.”
“We'll set traps to force the enemy to deploy their forces," Coyori continued, "of course there won't be any fighting, we just want to know how much force they have, for the second phase of our plan.”
“What do you mean?” Judy asked.
“An old story told by Professor Garcia," said Coyori, "I think they call it a Trojan horse, depending on the hostile force deployed in the first phase, we will detonate several nuclear charges that neutralize the enemy.”
“Do you have nuclear capability, other than for the displacement of your starships?” Smith asked impressed.
“A small contribution from the late Professor Garcia, but let's not touch on that at this point," said Blair as she settled the matter.
“Once the fighting force is eliminated, the Nekoi fighters will take over the pirate base," said Char, who was the captain of the fighters.
“And where do you plan to carry out the attack?” Penny asked.
“It will be before they approach the fifth planet's space portal, we don't want the structure to be destroyed before it's even finished," Blair said. “John, Maureen, as scientists I wish you to accompany Nekoi's forces and witness the evolution of the battle. No, do not worry, you will be far away and safe from any contingencies that may arise.”
John and Maureen exchanged glances.
“If you promise me that we will be safe, we would like to take Judy and the children with us, we should also take Major West and Dr. Smith," said John, who after what happened to Juan and Garcia did not want to leave his children alone, nor did he want to lose sight of Smith.
“But of course John, I was actually about to ask all of you to participate in this research as well," replied Blair with a smile.
After fine-tuning some details of the mission, the Robinson group left the office and headed for their quarters.
“I must express my disagreement with this whole ridiculous idea of the mission, I am a doctor, not a war machine evaluator," Smith said whimpered.
“You're a coward, Dr. Smith," laughed Will and Don laughed at the man.
“Being cautious has nothing to do with cowardice," Smith replied as he held back the urge to shake the boy.
.
.
The day before the mission, the Robinsons were getting ready to go into space.
“Attention Robinson family, someone is standing in front of the entrance," said the robot and Penny went to open the door.
“Hello can I help you...” She tried to say Penny but froze at the sight of General Coyori in the hall.
Coyori didn't ask permission to enter and went straight to John and Maureen.
The two adults were surprised by the sullen cat girl's presence, but they quickly recovered (lest Coyori should be angry) and invited her to take a seat.
“How can we help you, General?” John asked.
“Don't play dumb, Robinson, you know this whole thing is so weird.”
“You mean the death of Juan and Professor Garcia?” Maureen asked.
“I know that all suspicions fell on the old man, but I don't believe it," Coyori said, while something that could be said to be fear peeked into her face. “Did you know that the photographs the minister showed you were already known to us for months? In fact, we had them long before you came to Meowtis. Why the hell are you showing them now? Why was a contingency plan just drawn up for all this? I suspect the deaths of your friends and the mission are related... and the worst part is that I think I'll be the next to suffer a... How did Blair say? yes: "a tragedy indeed".”
“What do you mean," Don asked.
“I mean, along with the old man, I had the most reason to sabotage the Ministry of Aerospace Development.”
“But you're the commander general of the army, you wouldn't have agreed to sabotage the ministry," Judy said.
“Oh yea? What do you know, child, tell me. How would you feel if all your space force, logistics, training and so on were declared obsolete and inoperable overnight? It would be like one of the reptilians, useless and destined for extinction. All eyes are on me and all the staff I trusted were removed for this mission. I can't trust anyone! I know I will not return for this battle, I am doomed.”
“Then why don't you just stay away from everything?” Penny said.
“You don't understand, I am a Nekoi warrior, I live by the empire's code of honour and that of my emperors. If they order me to fight I fight, if they order me to kill I kill, if they order me to die I die. The emperors trust me despite the gossip, I cannot refuse, I cannot dishonour them, for me and the other warriors, their word is the law!”
“How hard," said Will.
“I just came to tell you Robinson to keep your eyes open, don't trust Blair, don't trust that fox," Coyori said with a sarcastic smile and then got up quickly and looked at the sides before leaving the room.
“You know, I think I want to go home," said Penny nervously.
.
.
The day of the mission came and the Robinsons found out that Blair was going with them too.
Thanks to the orbital telescopes they carried with them, they were able to spy on the robotech pirates without fear of being discovered. Several battleships were anchored in the outer ports of the huge pirate base and no one knew which were operational, nor were there any movement of enemy mechas.
“Time to carry out the plan, send Jupiter 2!” ordered Coyori, who was in charge of the mission, her commanding voice was intimidating.
As Blair planned, the pirates sent a ship to search Jupiter 2, when suddenly several missiles that were not previously part of the Robinson ship were headed for the ship and the impact destroyed the pirate ship.
The pirate base deployed the rest of its forces, which consisted of four combat ships, the rest of the numerous robotech ships were still not moving from the remodeled asteroid, they were obviously not operational. Blair was delighted to no longer be able to.
The four ships unfurled their battle mechas, which consisted of only one-tenth of their total number. Surely the failed transposition operation had destroyed almost all of the enemy's mechas. Blair took a leap of emotion, things couldn't be better.
The pirates seized the ship and took it back to its base.
“Have the necessary megatons for the second phase of the operation," Coyori ordered.
.
.
On the second day, the Robinsons were able to observe what appeared to be an enormous, ancient battleship from the First World War. It floated in front of them, was scarlet red in colour and its forehead was carved with a kind of ornate skull.
“How pretty," said Penny, as she filmed the big ship.
“That ship is the latest in Nekoi's spacecraft design," Coyori said, "it had a super cannon that could destroy a spacecraft of equal or larger size with a single impact, it was going to be called the Emeril... but now, with the development of space fighters, it is obsolete... Obsolete before it was even completed, obsolete before it even entered combat...”
This time in Coyori's face there was a sense of sorrow and pain. Penny and the other Robinsons felt sorry for her.
“Come on Coyori, the ship will help us complete our mission," Blair said with a false expression of comfort.
“The emery will complete the mission, but even so, they never gave her a chance to prove herself in battle, that is not the way a soldier should die.”
“Listen to yourself Coyori, you speak as if the ship were a living being.”
“A ship carries in its belly the soldiers who give their lives for Nekoi and the emperors, a ship fights, kills and dies along with its children coming out of her belly, do not you dare say that it is only a pile of steel and gunpowder!”
The emery was intended to be an easy catch for the pirates and as the four ships and their mechas approached, an explosion erupted from the ship's belly. An explosion so gigantic that it destroyed the robotech ships and their mechas, and the blast wave of the explosion reached the pirate fortress and damaged their anti-ship defence systems. In short, a... Glorious explosion!
