It's the year 2164. And with most of the world’s oil and natural gas reserves depleted any find of oil or natural gas is valuable. As a result, when a massive oil reserve is found in the Northwest Territories, Canadian drilling rigs are quickly established. Although oil is not the only thing they find.
"Keep drilling, we'll hit oil sooner or later," said the oil worker standing by the massive drilling rig.
"Yeah, or we'll hit something else," muttered the worker standing next to the controls for the drill.
"What you think we'll just hit a cave or something like drilling rig #2035 did?" asked the worker who'd spoken first. "You know the chances of that happening are about..."
The first worker stopped suddenly as the controls emitted a frantic beeping, and the grinding sound of the drill rotating stopped. The second worker looked up.
"And every time you say something won't happen, it does." he said as he picked up a climbing harness and attached it to a hook.
"Com'n, we'd better see what's down there so we can get back to drilling."
As the two workers descended into the hole left by the drill there came a faint, but ominous cracking sound that sounded like broken laughter.
