”what the hell?” He asked as he turned in his chair to look behind him and saw richard and Dario lying on the floor behind him. Both of them covered in soot and groaning.
richard looked up and grimaced. “I always like to say hello with a bang,” he coughed. “But that was a close one.”
camron looked around and saw that a section of the floor was on fire.
”richard,” he said and pointed.
richard looked and snapped his fingers. A thin sheet of water slapped down into the floor and put the fire out. Evaporating as it did so.
”what the hell just happened?” Yelled Daniel as he entered the cabin. He saw Dario and Richard and grunted. “I should have known.”
“Hey man,” groaned Dario. “Sorry to drop in unannounced but my place kinda blew up.”
”some kind of explosive arrow,” explained richard as e helped Dario up. “Haven’t seen one of those in a while.”
”Audrey,” muttered Daniel.
”who’s Audrey?” Asked Shari as she entered the cabin behind Daniel.
”Project I,” said Daniel. “She’s literally the worlds best archer, her own skill plus a robotic eye that helps her with everything that involves sight.”
”so she’s like Hawkeye,” summed up richard as he stood and helped Dario up.
”better,” said Daniel. A bow is her preferred weapon. But she can use any type of ranged weapon with insane skill.”
he paused and seemed to think for a moment. “She’s not as good a swordsman as me but she does carry one for close quarters.”
”well, this just keeps getting better,” said janette. a stray spark erupting from her hair and fizzling out like they always did when she thought hard. “Speaking of which did anyone else pick up on the enormous amount of energy that’s been building up towards the east for the past couple of days?”
”east?” Asked Daniel. “That’s towards the Alphun nuclear plant.”
”the worlds largest,” explained Dario.
”the plant has been closed for two days but is surrounded by a military cordon,” said daniel.
“Covert or open?” Asked Richard, a serious look on his face.
”open, there is media coverage of the area but no one has gone inside for a day after the two squads didn’t come out,”
“Correct me if I’m wrong,” said Richard. “But the plant is pretty much a days walk east of here. And all the sightings of “monsters” have been within a days walk of there, correct?”
daniel nodded grimly.
”which tells us that the creatures need a lot of energy for something,” continued Richard. “They teleported and traveled back in time to a a location that could produce the single most amount of energy in any time period up to the present for us.”
richard looked around as if seeing if anyone could understand. Camron certainly didn’t.
”what if the teleportation and time travel were a one shot trick?” Said daniel. “What if they could only do it once? They’d need a massive power source to do it again.”
”especially for seventy odd creatures,” said Richard. “I can teleport up to ten people across a continent before my generators are strained. Further for fewer people.”
”they’re building a teleporter, or a time machine then,” said Daniel. “Makes sense, this isn’t their time and it might not be their world at all.”
“Are you saying we’re dealing with aliens?” Asked Camron.
“Yes,” said Richard and Daniel at the same time.
”what’s this about aliens?” Asked nick as he entered the cabin. “And why is the floor charred?”
Camron sat back as Richard explained the floor and the possible aliens. This was getting more bizarre by the minute.
”you ok?” Asked a girls voice in his head.
”am I going crazy now?” He thought.
”no, I’m shari,” said the voice. “I’ve finally been able to get a hold of my telepathic powers.”
”why are you doing this then?” He asked her.
”to ask if you’re ok,” she said. “You looked stressed and your brainwaves showed signs of stress.”
”you can see that?” Asked Camron.
”when Daniel mentioned a robotic eye it unlocked mine. And my memories.”
”you remember now?” Asked Camron. “And you have a robotic eye?”
“We all do,” said sharis voice. “Except Nick. He didn’t need one. Ours give us real-time data on our devices and power generators. Richard never uses his but it’s still there. For some reason ours won’t activate if our brains are altered. I can reactivate them by using telepathy to make our brains send the right signal.”
camron put aside the thought of a robotic eye and answered her first question. “I’m ok, just a bit surprised.”
”we all are,” said sharis voice. “We’ll just need to adapt to it.”
”can you activate my eye?” Asked Camron. “It might help me.”
”tomorrow,” said Shari. “For now we need sleep. While we were talking the rest have decided to investigate the nuclear plant tomorrow. We don’t know what we’ll find there so sleep for now.”
Camrons eyes closed and he fell asleep.
