Loud explosive sounds could be heard from every sides of this place. Those sounds didn't come from fireworks or firecrackers. Of course, it would be better if those were the cause. However, in reality, the sounds came from the exploding bombs, fired cannons, and exchanged gunfire. They continued to resound along with the battle cries of the soldiers. Yes, this place was a battlefield in the middle of war.
I swung my sword to the enemy soldier in front of me. The moment I landed a fatal blow to his body, his crimson blood spurted to my face. His body fell to the ground and his blood flowed like a red river. I wiped his blood from my face and proceed to parry a strike from another enemy soldier. When I realized, I already stood among the pile of fallen soldiers, some from the same side as me and some from enemy side, with a bloody sword on my right hand and an empty gun on the other hand. I wondered how many enemy soldiers that I killed?
I took a moment to calm my raging breath from taking down those soldiers. Corpse, fire, smoke, and blood everywhere. Just looking at them would remind one of the picture of hell. Even more, the mixed scent that came from those things in the air was really sickening. Without my adrenaline running high, I would probably throw up long ago.
Really, I had no idea why this thing even happened in the first place. Everything was like a dream, but at the same time very realistic.
Without knowing, I let my guard down. Someone was aiming at me from far behind. When I turned around, I saw the person who was pointing his gun at me. But, before I could react, he pulled the trigger. Along with the sound of two consecutive gunfire, my body collapsed to the ground. I felt like my body was turning cold and my senses were leaving me. As my consciousness faded away, I could hear someone's voice desperately calling my name.
