Rain Barnett. I never intended to remember that spiky-haired boy's name, but now that name stuck in my head. The reason was simple, my first game over was most likely related to this guy.
Previously, during sword training, I was partnered with Georgio. To be honest, he was a great teacher. It was easy for me to understand what he said and what he did. He did not talk much, but he would answer any question that I asked him related to sword practice.
I was so focused on practicing and did not realize that Rain was looking at me. After that, he walked towards me. The moment he appeared inside my field of view, I knew things would go wrong. My intuition was right, with confidence and a smug face, he shouted at me. I bet almost anyone in the field could hear his voice.
"Clarissa Edelrose! I challenge you to a duel! Of course, using a sword!"
Just what the heck was this guy saying. Why would he challenge a complete novice to a duel? He clearly had the upper hand when I was almost guaranteed to lose.
Attracted by his fiery challenge, people were gathering around us, cheering something, but I could not catch it since their voices were drowned by each other's yelling. From what I could hear, they were looking for entertainment. Sure, seeing the hero's daughter who was actually complete sword novice got defeated must be fun. They would start to bully me after I lose, I was sure of it. I should not take that risk.
"No." I flatly rejected his challenge with a firm voice.
"You coward! Are you afraid of me now?" said Rain, trying to provoke me.
"Say what you want. However, aren't you the one who is a coward? You are mad since I beat you during martial arts class, so now you are taking advantage of my weakness in sword to get back at me. Do you want to win so badly that you want to have a duel with a complete novice? Do you have no shame?"
After I said that, his face became really red. I did not understand why this person loved to make fool of himself. Was it even normal to pick a fight with a classmate that you just met today in front of everyone? I did not think so. Also, the cheering of the people around me was damn annoying.
Before Rain and I could say anything to each other, the instructor came. He should come sooner. He shut everyone up with his cold gaze that seemed like about to kill people.
"30 laps. Run. Now."
He ordered us to run 30 laps as our punishment. Since he looked so intimidating, no one voiced their objection. Really now, spiky boy, you got us into this mess. Before I started running, Oliver passed me and said something to me with a small voice.
"Don't you think you are a little overboard?" he said.
Unfortunately, I did not think so.
I remembered after that I run 30 laps until my leg felt like about to fell off. I ate dinner in flash since all that running drained my energy. I even went to bed early. However, I remembered nothing after that. By the time I realized, I was already back to the first day, not advancing to the third day.
