On the top of table there were our breakfast: toasted bread, scrambled egg, and a cup of coffee. I sat together with my mother, my brother who already changed his clothes with exactly the same color shirt, and one more person. Unfortunately, that person was not my father since he was off to work early in the morning. I only had one sibling, that sleepy-faced older brother, and also one mother. We did not live with any other relatives either. In short, this other person was someone else, but somehow always welcomed here, by my mother of course.
This person was taller than my brother. He looked quite suspicious with black hoodie that covered his scarlet, slightly curly hair. His bang was rather long as it covered his hessonite colored eyes. He wore a big, round glasses that did not quite suit him. Also, there was a yellow headphone hanging on his neck. His image somehow reminded me of a hacker in one of the comic book that I read before.
"Joshua, is coffee alright with you?" asked my mother to that person, Joshua.
"Yes. Thank you very much." said Joshua with a polite smile.
Mother put a cup of coffee on the table, just in front of Joshua. She was wearing a kind, motherly smile on her face. It was totally different from the face that I saw the moment I opened my eyes several minutes ago. On the other hand, Gilbert was looking at him with sour look.
"Mother, why did you let him in?" asked Gilbert.
At his question, my mother glared at Gilbert. Honestly, I was so close at asking that same question. I meant, were she seriously fine with him looking at her daughter that just got up from bed? It was not his first time, but....are you really sure, Mother? At least told him to wait in living room or something.
That aside, Joshua was here to pick my brother up. Well, he did it almost everyday when they had class. Since he entered university, Gilbert rarely attended class on time. He always overslept or fell asleep somewhere. No, he did that too sometimes during high school.
Joshua was Gilbert's close friend since high school. They were classmates during their last year in high school too. Both of them were two years above me. Joshua used to come over here to play, also to take my brother who fell asleep somewhere to home. After graduation, they entered the same university and the same major. I happened to attend the same one too.
Knowing Gilbert for several years, Joshua was probably worried, or just annoyed at him, so he decided to do this troublesome thing.
"This is why you have no friend other than him, Gilbert." said mother, conveying the harsh truth as she shook her head.
"I am fine. Pillow is my best friend." said Gilbert as he stood up and walked to the kitchen to wash his plate and cup.
