Waves crashed against the sand. Seagulls flew around and dove into the water, hoping to catch a fish. A few waddled on the sand, searching for a crab. Whales slowly swam past, leisurely minding their business. Whale Island is usually used for cargo. A few trades here and there often happened.
On a flat-surfaced rock sat an odd-looking wolf, listening to the waves of the shore. He stood up and stretched out his legs. He turned to the left and leaped off the rock, landing in the scorching sand. Mordecai yelped and jumped back onto the rock. He turned around to see a bumblebee patterned wolf pup running up to him, a grin widening on their face.403Please respect copyright.PENANApgpFH5X6qG

"Hey, Mordy, what's the catch? Sand burn your paws again? He laughed.403Please respect copyright.PENANAdcMpAYY8i1

"Huh, what are you even talking about, Zip? That totally didn't just happen...now that is" Mordecai mumbled, giving the wolf pup a dirty look. Zip rolled his eyes and zipped past him. Mordecai hopped down and gave chase. "I'll get you. Ya wee vermin!" He shouted back. Zip laughed and charged towards him. The young wolf nipped at his feet and grabbed a hold of his tail. Mordecai shook his body and went for Zip's leg. Zip released his tail and rolled onto his back, exposing his stomach. "I yield! I yield!" He surrendered, laughing uncontrollably.
Mordecai snorted and leaped onto him. "Surrender is for the weak, little one. You must fight...to death!" He said though a mouthful of Zip's fur. Zip pushed up and landed on Mordecai. He nibbled down on his ear.
"Now I win! Take that!" He growled in triumph. Mordecai sighed in defeat and paused for a moment.
A pair of paws reached his face. He looked up to see a black and light brown wolf, gazing down at him. Who is this?
Zip rolled off and got up. "Uh...mister? Are you looking for someone? Are you lost?" He asked, taking a good long look at the new face. Mordecai jumped to his feet and stood in front of Zip, protectively. He bared his teeth and glared. "Whatever you're planning to do, don't even think about it."
The wolf didn’t move for a moment. Then he lifted a paw and laughed.403Please respect copyright.PENANA3bBpW3n7B8

"Are you the Moonlight wolf? The one we are looking for? I didn't expect you to be so protective. I'm not here to cause harm" He assured him, winking.403Please respect copyright.PENANAL1NF234f43

Mordecai tilted his head in slight confusion. "What?" He questioned, straightening his posture and glancing back at Zip. Zip just stared back, too busy to say anything. Mordecai looked back at his odd black and red wings. Did they come for these? The muscular wolf laughed again.403Please respect copyright.PENANA47LHs4KXjj

"Oh, I didn't know someone as odd as you could be nervous? You're quite the scary one" He teased.403Please respect copyright.PENANAWhV8zMCBwX

Mordecai sat straight up, giving the large wolf a furious look, "You're already making fun of me and you never introduced yourself to me. That's quite rude. I'd watch it if I were you. I know how to use these things" He threatened, unsheathing his red talons.
The large wolf chuckled, "Now, now. I never meant to insult you. You pick quite the fight. My name is Grounder. I came here on a rather serious note." He started.
Grounder sat down, curling his tail around his paws, watching Mordecai closely. His yellow eyes bore into his. Mordecai took a step back and sat down. Well, that's over at least. Why is this guy here though?
Mordecai didn't seem as though he cared but he did. This random wolf who decided to walk upon the sands of Whale Island came to him. Why him? The only thing that stuck to him more was this wolf's serious posture.
A small blue wolf appeared, running to Grounder's side. She whispered something in his ear and backed away. She then pulled her attention towards Mordecai and Zip.
Mordecai stared at them. Who are they? Grounder turned back to Mordecai, "Mordecai, this is my assistant and apprentice, Kai, and she will be helping you on your quest. Your family is welcome to come. However, there may be danger lurking. I won't stop you though." Mordecai was stunned for a moment, "What are you talking about?" He questioned, frowning. A Quest? What quest?
Great! Not only did these wolves come here uninvited but now they wanted him to do a quest? Mordecai just wanted to relax without worrying about some quest.
Kai turned to him, "You'll see. It's simple really. All we ask is that you can cooperate, ``she answered. Grounder stood up straight, gazing at him. "This is a serious task and test for you. We need to know if you are the one. There’s a problem under our paws" He added, mumbling.
Mordecai still had no clue what was going on. Surely this was not good due to the fact that there were new faces in front of him. However, did not wish to argue whatsoever to these unknown wolves or throw multiple questions at them. He had to be sure if they really needed and trusted him. Did he trust them? If they didn't ask him in the first place he wouldn't care to help them at all. What did they need him to do? Was it simple, confusing, or challenging to the core? How in the world was he going to deal with this? His mind clouded up with questions.
Mordecai quickly sat down, letting out a groan. "Are you sure you have the right guy to do this? I don't think I'm all that special. I'm already weirdly looking as can be." He protested, unsure about the whole situation. Kai looked up at him in surprise, "Well...Grounder, y-you tell him. You know...like why we need him" she insisted, quickly. Grounder sighed and began. "There's a wise prophecy that the Elite of Wolgon have written and have spread. An evil kingdom known as Darkmoon is prophesied to die. They are the bane of our existence and no one really knows how they came to be. You are said to be the one to help us in this forsaken war with them. All of the kingdoms will be lost without you and others. So, basically, we need you for something and all that grand stuff. Blah, Blah, Blah."

After Grounder finished, he looked at Mordecai and mumbled, "That's why we need you. There are other forces you aren't aware of as well this prophecy. You hold some special powers and stuff. Apparently, that’s a huge boon to us."
Mordecai stared at him and nodded, widening his eyes. What on Anzellix was this guy talking about? He still didn't know what a Moonlight wolf was. No one seemed to care if he knew. It seemed like he was supposed to know. Mordecai only knew he was weird looking. That's it.
"Um, that's nice and all, but do you really believe I can do this? To be frank, the story sounded a little confusing. I sort of got the getting rid of some kingdom part but what about powers? No offense" He replied, scrunching his muzzle up. He was starting to believe that Grounder's explanation and the reasoning behind it was insane.403Please respect copyright.PENANAcXAPIksHd4
Grounder nodded, "You are destined for greatness and all that jazz. We need your help as a bigger threat might be pulling the strings on the shadows. This is a real issue we have. The faster you come with us the faster you’ll learn some unlikely things" he stated.403Please respect copyright.PENANAy51VQmrQoT

Mordecai sat himself down on the warm sand beneath him. A white and yellow wolf walked over to him and sat down. He turned his head and sighed.403Please respect copyright.PENANAw6JAmQ0XXO
"Hi...Swift. What are you doing here?" He asked, monotonically. 403Please respect copyright.PENANAc3qZHcrwNJ
"Just checking on you that's all. I know it's hard leaving here. But Dash and the others will be with you. He is the eldest even if others aren't supposed to go. We decided that it's best you go as a family. Well without their father, Speed, and I" she reassured him.403Please respect copyright.PENANAT4f2QxG8rq
"Are you sure? I don't want them getting hurt after all. I don't even know what lies ahead of this island. Plus, Grounder and Kai seem a little weird. Mainly, Grounder." Mordecai answered back, uncertainty in his voice.403Please respect copyright.PENANAwitqkdST1r
Swift laughed and lifted her paw to his face. "Now you know you'll be fine. Better yet, you might find what you are and where you came from. Think about it...your actual blood" she responded, assuring him. 403Please respect copyright.PENANARi7oftbLYs
Mordecai huffed and glanced up at her, pain forming on his face. "You know family isn't always blood right?" He pointed out.403Please respect copyright.PENANAFj90o3LWSP
Swift nodded her head in agreement, "Yes, I'm aware of that. Did you forget about this dysfunctional crazy family? The eldest son with horrible jokes, a second-born son with a weird fascination with birds, a baby brother who is actually normal for now, and you. You're a magical and mythical being from somewhere far beyond here. Don't forget."
Mordecai shook his head and chuckled "I know...but do you think I'm ready for this?" He asked, looking up at her gaze.
Swift takes a long pause. She glanced up at the sky then looked down at the sand beneath her paws. "Yes. I believe you are. There's nothing I think can stop you."
Mordecai slowly nodded his head. “I’ll head back…” he said, standing up and turning around. Speed ignored him for a moment then looked up. “Don’t worry about it. Just protect each other. It’s not the end of the world” she said, smiling up at him. Mordecai looked back and gave her a small smile. Then he headed back to the two wolves.403Please respect copyright.PENANAAr5yzeFvag
