Stiles and Scott walked into the cell room in the middle of an Uno game that Sydney and I were playing.
“What are you- why are you in the cell?” Scott asked. going into the other room to open the lock. I stayed quiet for a moment.
“Maybe you would know if you didn’t leave us alone with Jackson the Jackass.” Sydney responded snarkily.
“Heyyy!” Stiles smiled walking into the room, his expression slowly changing when he sees me in the cell with Sydney.
“What happened-”
“It doesn’t matter. We’re going home.” I stated, pushing past Stiles. I was a little hurt. I understand that he had things to do, but why would he leave me alone with a potential werewolf? I turn around to see Sydney still in the jail cell.
“Come on. We are going to my house.” I stated, leading Sydney to my car.

We spent the whole afternoon watching different Harry Potter movies, and then after we had watched the first one, we got some snacks. Sydney was hesitant and she seemed nervous the whole time but once the movie had started playing, she seemed better. I microwaved some popcorn and we had licorice while we waited for it to be done. We munched on it as we began the fourth movie. Both of us had agreed that Cedric Diggory was hot and we just had to watch that movie immediately.
We both had so much fun and I even managed to get her to laugh. And this time, it was genuine. Not the fake laugh she usually did. I’d made a joke about Fred's obnoxiously long hair, and she’d almost doubled over laughing. It was nice hanging out like this. We seemed to forget all the troubles of the real world for a while, and let ourselves be absorbed by the Harry Potter universe.
“Okay, okay, but who do you like the most?” I asked her when our fits of giggling ceased for a moment.
“I cannot choose between Cedric Diggory and Fred Weasely. I love them both.” she declared.
“That isn’t fair! You can’t have both!” I exclaimed with a laugh.
“Watch me.” she quipped, chucking a pillow at me.
“Oh, you’re in for it.” I giggled, smacking her with a pillow of my own.
Both of us refused to surrender so soon enough we were having an epic pillow fight while Harry fought the dragon in the movie.
She threw one more and it hit me square in the face. I froze for a second stunned then collapsed on the floor in a giggling fit. Soon enough she joined me. I had no idea how long we were laughing and trying to get words out but Sydney’s laughter suddenly stopped. It was so abrupt that I snapped out of it too. I looked over at her but she was looking at the doorway. Aunt Kate was standing there. As I looked at Sydney, I swore I saw genuine fear in her eyes but when I blinked it was gone. She got to her feet and kept her eyes on the floor.
“You got some mail here kiddo.” Kate commented, handing me a coffee-stained envelope after I got to my feet. I thanked her, and then realized that there was a huge smirk on her face.
“It’s from your dude-friend that we met in France.” She teased.
My stomach sank.
During my years of training in France, Kate met someone. He was tall, and fairly handsome. His name was Camdon, but she called him ‘Cam’ for short. Cam had a younger brother, and we bonded instantly. While Kate and Cam were doing their lovey-dovey things on one side of the house, he and I would be doing laundry and singing our hearts out to Taylor Swift songs. I told him all of my secrets, and he told me all of his. We would lay on my bed, and write poems with our minds. We’d go on the main streets play childish games like hide-and-seek. We’d sit on the edge of giant water fountains, and do finger paintings on the benches. Once, we even snuck out and went to Venice. We’d go to all the restaurants and order a dozen pastries and eat all of them, causing monstrous stomach aches.

“This is soooo good.” He said, as he shoved a whole cannoli into his mouth.
“Oh my god, you are literally going to choke.” I laughed, which caused him to giggle. That was my favorite part about him. He had a strange giggle that sounded like a dying duck and it made me laugh every time I heard it. We started having a laughing fit, and everyone around us started staring. But among the crowd, there were a few smiling faces. A young couple pointed at us. The woman turned her head and whispered something in her partner's ear. I could make out the words.

I shook my head, and looked at him. His cheeks pinked, but he shook his head and looked down at the empty container on his lap. When I got home, Kate was obviously pissed that I had gone out without telling her. But once Cam told her that it was his brother and I, the teasing automatically began.
“Soooo, when were you going to tell me that you snuck out with a boy?” She asked, jumping onto my bed.
“Don’t make those eyes at me, it wasn’t weird.” I told her, stating it as a fact.
“It’s okay, I already know that you guys are dating. Cam and I both know.” She teased. I threw my head back.
“How would your dad feel about this, Laura?” She asked, with a huge grin on her face.
“KATE, we are not dating. He is a boy-friend. Not a boyfriend.” I emphasized.
“I don't really hear a difference.” she remarked.
“He is a dude that happens to be my best friend. He's a dude-friend, not a boyfriend. I am tired of people constantly saying that stuff.” I complained, throwing my head on the pillow.
“Okay, okay I’m sorry.” She defended
“Well, I’m off to send a letter to your father and Wonder-Twin.” She continued as she exited the room. She stopped at my closet, and looked at it for a second. My heart stopped. She then swiveled her body to the mirror to the left of the closet. She moved a piece of hair back into place and then walked out of my room. Before she closed the door, she peaked her head out.
“Tell your ‘dude-friend’ that he can stop hiding in your closet. I’m leaving now.” She remarked, with a snarky tone.
I watched as he poked his head through the closet door, which made me giggle.
“Oh my gawd, so tell me about your boyfriend.” He spoke in an over-exaggerated version of Kate's voice. This resorted to another laughing fit.
“Hey, I bought you something when we were back in Venice.”
“I bought you something too.” I stated, reaching into my pocket, and pulling out a fictional piece of paper.
“A one-way ticket to the Friend Zone!” I yelled enthusiastically.
“Oh my god shut up. I’m being serious.” He said, rolling his eyes sarcastically.
He pulled a small package out of his hand, and handed it to me.
“Open it tomorrow.” He smiled, but I could tell that it was superficial.
“I don’t know what it is. But I already know that I’m going to love it. Thank you.” I replied honestly.
“I just want you to know that I am so proud of you. And I just hope that you won’t hate me.” He hesitated. At the moment, I was confused.
“Alright…..” I answered.
“Can I hug you?” He genuinely asked. And he hugged me, his arms wrapped around my waist, tight, and I felt safe. But he embraced me like it was the last time he’d ever hug me.

Kate refused to give me any information at all. I cried, I begged, and I pleaded.
“This is what love does to you.” She would say, as she had reminded me earlier. And she was right. Love had taken my glass heart, and smashed it onto concrete cement.
“You need to learn that love is just as dangerous to you as a bullet. It's painful now, but it will make you your own person. Trust me, you don’t need someone else to rely on. You, like all the Argent women, are independent. You can have a man, but you don’t need one.” She told me. And it was wise advice. But I was lovesick and didn’t listen.
I ran straight to my room and pulled out the small package. I tugged at the strings and unwrapped the parchment. Inside was a tiny box, in which I removed the lid. There was a little note written on a scratch piece of paper. It read:

“If there ever comes a day
When the moon hides from your eyes;
Luminous memories of us together,
Will soar like a flock of fireflies.

If seawater drowns your pupils
When sadness invades your heart,
My hands will be the handkerchief
That so gentle dry your eyes

When your midnight thoughts asunder
Staring at wishes from afar,
Know I'm never out of reaching-
I will always be by your side.

My insides smiled a bit. Poetry kept us together, and he knew that I would understand a poem more than a letter.

“Until next time.” was written at the bottom of the note. There was something behind the note. It was a pendant, with a flower perfectly etched in black ink. I choked, as tears welled into my eyes. It was a Magnolia. I told him once that Magnolias were my favorite flower, and then he made fun of me, and then persisted on telling me that Magnolias were the most boring of the flowers, and that I should have chosen a sunflower or cherry blossom. He was only joking, but it meant a lot that he was listening.

Weeks passed, I still had no word as to where he was and it was hard. A few months later, I moved back to the US, and where I am now- still frustrated. I never take the necklace off, because I’m scared that I’m going to lose control. But it doesn’t stop the anger that has burrowed itself inside my system.

If I ever saw him again, I don’t think I would be able to look him in the eye. The fury inside my bones was far too powerful.

The world around me disappeared, as I looked at his name on the envelope, and the stinging of pain came back. Him leaving, physically hurt me.
I threw the feeling away, and opened the letter.

The thoughts quickly invaded my mind, to the point where I couldn’t take them. I took the letter and threw it in the fireplace. It made me feel better, until I realized what I had just done. Sydney gave me a weird look, but then went back to pretending that she wasn't watching me.

“Shit, shit, SHIT.” I whispered to myself.
But it was too late.
Aunt Kate was right. Love was driving me mentally crazy.

I put my face in my palms, realizing what I had just done. But I noticed a little piece of the page that didn’t burn in my impulsive mistake. It swirled around in the air, before I caught it with my right hand. I flipped it over to find his name scribbled, making it known that it was the end of the letter. I smiled, as I reread his name over and over again, reading it in my mind as he would say it.
