I'm alone on this planet. Alone. And pretty far from the city too. And it can only get worse. I'm going to die here from the leak. Depending on the type, I have anywhere from two hours, to two months.
I jump on my speeder and head to the city, not bothering to do what it's meant for, speed. I'm one of the only fifteen year olds to have a licence, most can't pass the test, they're just too reckless. But I need a speeder the least. I run almost everywhere, except for the track, which is placed so far away. So I've got a small vehicle.
I pass by a few roads, usually full of people and cars, but not now. Passing the outskirts, I move to ride through the forest, it's so beautiful and especially today, right now, when there aren't others there, just the sound of the trees. This is the benefit of having a small speeder, I am permitted to go through the nature areas. But that doesn't matter anymore. What matters is getting to the town to salvage the resources I can.
I'm not even paying attention to the forest road, since there isn't anyone. But I look up soon enough to slam into the breaks as I almost run into someone.
I jump out of the speeder and check to make sure they're okay.
"How can you be more likely to run into someone when there's hardly anyone here?" I see Damian look up at me with a smile. We've been friends for as long as I can remember.
"Get in," I say, pulling him into the speeder, "I thought I was alone here."
"What a coincidence, so did I."
"What kept you here?"
"I was on the trails."
"Typical."
"Let me tell my story! And I watched as all the ships left, and made a run for it, but ended up running off the trail. I guess I was destined to spend a few more days here."
"Well, I was on the track, and the alarm went off and I ran towards the port, but missed it."
"So you're being reckless today. It's after hours."
"You're reckless everyday."
"So are you."
And we start laughing as I start up the speeder.
"So where are we headed, Princess?" asks.
I don't respond.
"Oh right, you don't like me calling you Princess, do you Princess."
"We're going to the city. To salvage what we can. We can't survive there, all the workers are gone and it will start falling apart." I say without skipping a beat.
"Good plan Princess."
"Ugh."
