"Jorden!" I call to my step sister, "look over here!"
"Hannah, I'm not falling for your tricks again," she calls back.
"It's not a trick, there is seriously something cool!" And indeed there was, a small deer curled up just a few meters away. They don't usually come this close to the city.
I heard Jorden's footfalls come closer as she gave into curiosity. "Whoah!" She whispered, this was her space, out in the wild, exploring. I did my exploring in the city, where, as funny as it is, felt more solitary than out here.
"It's beautiful," I say, reaching for my camera, one of the few times a painting might be inspired by the wild. Click. There, it's going to be beautiful.
"It's dark," Jorden whispers, "we best be heading back."
"I know."
-----------------------------
"Hey mom!" I call out into our city apartment, right in the heart of Toronto, "we're home!"
"Hannah!!" Her voice rang out from the kitchen, "get in here right now!"
I run into the kitchen, nothing makes my mom like that, even when she's angry.
Right in our kitchen is Tyler Forseth and Rosalie Conta, my two good friends, and one of the most popular couples at our school.
"What are you doing here?" I ask.
"No time to explain, we need to leave, now!" Tyler exclaimed, "your scent has been detected and you need to get to camp. Pack your most valuable belongings, we need to leave!"
In a panic I run upstairs to see just as Tyler said, pack. Pulling clothes from the hangers and out of the drawers, my rush is interrupted by Jorden.
"Hannah, am I ever going to see you again?"
"I don't know," I say reaching for my travel art supplies, "I don't even know where I'm going."
"Right."
"Jorden Issler," I tell her, unclasping one of the bracelets lining my wrist, the silver one engraved with the words, 'Boats Against the Curennt,' my favorite line from my favorite book, The Great Gatsby, and clasping it on my sister's wrist, "we will see each other again. No matter what. Until then."
"Until then," she nods in return, as we both run down the stairs.
"I'm ready." I tell Rosalie and Tyler.
-----------------------------
Three hours of silent driving, my mom and Tyler up front, Rosalie and I in the back. No one talked for those three hours aside from Tyler giving directions to my mom.
"Where are we going?" I ask, "who has detected my scent? And why are you two involved?"
Three hours interrupted.
"Camp Half-Blood, close too New York City," replied Rosalie, "monsters, and the last needs a bit of explaining."
"What?" I ask, still very confused.
"Your father was like no other man. He had a sweet disposition, he walked like he owned the world, and I was in love with him," my mom said surprisingly, "but as soon as I had you, he had to leave, he had important things to do, only a year ago, I found out that he belonged to--" and she broke down in tears.
Tyler leaned towards her, "it's okay Mrs. Devereaux. You don't have to talk about it."
Then he turned to face me, "Your father is a Greek God. Camp Half-Blood is a place for people like you, ones with one immortal parent, one mortal. You are called demigods, or half-bloods. I was assigned to protect you, my duty as a saytr."
It's enough to find out your father is a God, and that Greek Gods are real, but to learn your friend is half goat, that's a bit much.
"and Rosalie here is mortal, but she's been my awesome girlfriend for three past three years."
"Wait, you had a girlfriend when you were ten?"
"No, satyrs age different, I'm about 19, and Rosalie is 18, but she's got the mist shrouding her age. Turn here! Come on Hannah, we've got to go before any of the monsters catch you."
We rushed to grab our bags, and ran right up a great big hill, and as we entered a small cluster of trees, we served to go through some sort of gate, and there was camp.
I missed most of what happened next, but it was a lot of explaining, and more of me getting told what to do.

The Hermes cabin became my home, and I made a few friends, trained, but mostly sat with a sketchbook by the water. I didn't see Tyler or Rosalie, but I heard about them. They broke up, Tyler left to go help other Half-Bloods, and Roselie left for New York City, last I heard, she was at a great college, on her way to a PhD.
One day, a few girls were watching me draw the cabins, when a gasp was heard, everyone was looking over my head. 741Please respect copyright.PENANAsEceCXuO7P
"Welome to Apollo," said one of the girls, "with those drawings, you couldn't be anywhere else."741Please respect copyright.PENANAfDekUFyWW8
Still sitting at camp, waiting to see Jorden again, three years later. She probably doesn't remember me, but I do, and next time I see her, I have a deer painting for her.741Please respect copyright.PENANAhQxLRRm5VM
