My assignment to find Ash and Lilac had succeeded, but now Ash, who I had known for a grand total of five minutes, hated me on one term: the worst shot I have ever fired.
The Hydra crashes down towards us.
I watch Ash and Lilac dive out of the way, and me, unaccustomed to close combat, don't get away in time, and get hit, only to black out.
I wake up and see my bow and quiver within a short reach, but I see Lilac running over, and help hold down the last remaining head.
With the hydra finally gone, I grab my bow and quiver. And run over to the other girls, "Uh, guys, where the heck are we?"
"If I knew, we wouldn't be wandering around this stupid forest!" Ash tells me. If she knew? Well, she might think she's a better tracker, but I'm pretty good.
I see a recognizable site, just as we see a glow.
"Guys look! A campfire!" Lilac yells, and we run towards it.
We get there as everyone is piling into the space. I slip in with the Apollo kids, ready to lead the songs.
After campfire, I return to my cabin, and clean up. For the next few weeks, I talked with Lilac a bit, but I was caught up with teaching archery, which Ash didn't think I was good at, and working in the infirmary. My lack of time kept the two of us apart, until we both forgot we existed.
I look down at my watch and realize that it's time for my shift at the infirmary. I get up from my usual spot by the lake, and jog over to the small building where all of the Apollo kids work, mostly because we are all natural healers.
"Hey Anya!" I say, walking in, and greeting my sister, she came to camp a year after I was claimed, and I sort of became her mentor of sorts.
"Hannah!" she calls back with a laugh, "so glad you're here, we need a ton of help!"
I look around and see the two patients we have, both suffering from minor injuries from last night's capture the flag game. Anya and Finn share the shift that overlaps mine, and Jasper and Clarke are here for another ten minutes. The four of them are my closest friends here.
Since the two patients are really on their last hour or two before we let them go, the four of us sit down and play cards, our unusual past time.
"Clarke, do you know who's after us?" Anya asks, because the two campers who usually take the shift left camp a couple of weeks ago, they grew up, and didn't need protection anymore.
"Um, I think its Abby, just her." Clarke replies.
"Great, we'll be so understaffed," I comment sarcastically, I'm a single shift, and so is Abby.
"Oh, and Monty too," Clarke adds.
"EMERGENCY!!!" I hear someone yelling from the entrance. Its some Ares and Hermes kids, with two stretchers.
"Bring them in!" Jasper yells, helping the two patients onto a stretcher. Both of them are bleeding, out their noses and eyes. One starts coughing up blood.
"Get them on their sides, they'll choke on it if they stay flat!" Finn yells, "Treat it like excessive vomiting!"
I rush over to the doors, pulling them shut, locking in the infirmary into quarantine. It's unlikely Apollo kids will get sick, but others, we don't want to risk.
"We've got four more!!" Someone yells.
I rush over to Anya and tell her, "we've got to find a cure, they're going to die. "
