,,Nudná rutina'' tak by svůj každodenní život popsala Harper Evansová, cynická studentka střední školy Coquitlamu v Kanadě. Už celé tři roky se v jejím životě neobjevilo nic, co by narušilo její pravidelnou rutinu, kterou tak strašně nesnáší... A možná proto, by se takový Jeremy Fraser dal považovat za dar od osudu, jenže to by to nesměl být člen organizace pracující pro drogový kartel.

Právě on, dokázal narušit tu její každodenní rutinu a nejen to. Obrátil ji život vzhůru nohama a zase zpátky, ukázal ji, že může mít všechno a pak zas nic. Z téměř dna samotného oceánu ji dostal skoro až na vrcholek Mount Everestu a srazil zpět dolů. Zničil vše, co za léta vybudovala. Přiměl ji věřit a když uvěřila, zradil...

Opáčila jsem a prudce se otočila, abychom stáli tváří v tvář. ,,Harper, uklidni se, dobře?'' Vložila se do toho ta rezavá kreatura a já se rozesmála. ,,Já? Já že se mám uklidnit? To ty tu oxiduješ v mým baráku, protože tě maminka vyhodila ze sklepa a ještě mi sem taháš čínskou mafii.'' Prskla jsem.
