It's time. I get up early and roll Mirabel off her bed. She lands with a thump and looks at me barely awake.
"Ow...What was that for?" Mirabel rubs her head. I help her up and start to panic. Shoot, I can't do this.
"No time for an explanation! We're behind!" I burst.
"On what?" Mirabel asks confused. I think quick.
"On the case!" I groan, "We need more clues and we've gone nowhere."
"Actually not true," she says calmly, "I talked to Bruno while you snuck out again." I froze puzzled. She puts her hand up.
"Don't worry I forgive you, I snuck out too on your first night here."
"Wow, you're good," I nod, "What did Bruno's vision say?"
"Well..." She looks hesitant, but she walks to her desk and turns around with an emerald glowing rectangle thing. Mirabel hands it to me and I took a closer look. It was Abuela smiling having her shoulder on Camilo. But Camilo doesn't look too happy. The rest of the family is behind them with Dolores hovering over everyone. When I moved it around, everyone would disappear and there was Camilo and Dolores standing there unhappy.
I step closer toward her Mirabel, "Did Bruno tell you what this means?"
"Mmmmm... He said the family had something to do with this," Mirabel looks at me more awake, "Do you know what it means?"
I look back and forth between the prophy and Mirabel. "I have to tell you something," I sigh, "Abuela is still alive..."
"Wait, WH--" I put my hand over her mouth. I give the shhh signal and slowly lift my hand off her mouth.
"Sorry, how do you know?" I walk Mirabel toward her window and grin at the sky. I clear my throat.
"It's all really a cliche really. I knew a village was up ahead with all the Trejo games going on. So, I took my already twisted ankle and limped to the village. I didn't know there was any magic, but I can adapt. When I saw you're Nanny, I already knew it was fake blood. However, I had to play along to win the trust and I was putting us behind on purpose. But all I really had to do was find the culprit."
Mirabel slowly starts to walk backwards to the door, "How did... your British?"
"I'm not finished. I knew I had to get closer to the family so I waited a couple of days for the big reveal. The only thing is Camilo, who I have sadly fallen for."
"So you admit it!" Mirabel declares with excitement.
"Yes, and I'm sorry I lied. I really miss having my real voice back and love waiting for big reveals. Could you ever forgive me?"
Mirabel sighs and leans in for a hug, "Not yet, but no more lies. Where's Abuela?"
"For that answer, we're going to have to wait after breakfast."
After I watch Mirabel ferociously eat at the sad breakfast table, we head to Abuela's.
"Have you seen Abuela buried?" I ask Mirabel.
"No, now that you have mentioned it."
"Probably because Abuela was actually Camilo?" She turns to me with a concerned stare.
"Why would you...ooooh," Mirabel nodes her head, "Yeah, that tracks."
"Since Camilo can't bury himself, someone would have to mention the best funeral director in the village. Because Luisa would be too emotional to lift or do anything."
"So, Abuela would have to hide somewhere. Maybe behind the walls like Bruno." I walk towards the window and found loose wallpaper.
"Woah," Mirabel says stunned, "Ok, but how come we didn't hear about the funeral?"
"Good question. Dolores actually convinced everyone that your nanny should be where your grandfather passed. Camilo and Dolores have been helping her plan something, but for some reason, she had to fake her death." We stood there in silence thinking. Or at least I was.
"What if they're planning something?!" Mirabel turns to me.
Suddenly everything clicked. "What if they are?!"
