I remember when I was seven years old, when I first met him.
My old elementary school, in Havenbelle, had a mysterious cursed forest.
Many myths have been told about it, many any of which, were just silly. Here are the most notable ones.
If you step into the forest you disappear without a trace of you. Or, If you run into the forest as a happy child, you will never be able to smile again.
Or the most foolish of them all, "Demons in the forest"
Being naivve and a daredevil, I wanted a taste of that forest, I wanted to test out these "myths".
The day, I ran into the forest, I was playing on the red monkey bars, I swung my tiny body across from it, pondering and thinking. A smile formed on my lips, staring at the forest and then back at my friend, Paris, who was on the monkey bars with me.
"Chloe, don't even think about asking!"
Though everyone believed in the myth........ my friend at the time Paris, was a huge believer of devils or demons in the forest. So I made a pouty face at her and pushed up from the bars.
"BUT Paris, come on your always scared!" I told her. Paris grunted at me and rolled her big brown eyes. "I am not scared!" I teased her yet again. "Then come with me it will be fun!"
Paris looked down, and stuck her tiny lips out. "I told you there are devils in the forest!!!......If you want to get eaten so bad be my guest......" She mumbled, her messy blonde curls, flowed in the wind, and her annoyance showed through her face.
"Devils, demon, devils!!!" I leered back at her, mocking are then I giggled. "There are no such thing as demons!"
"Says who??? Paris yelled back in my face.
I stuck my tongue out at her snickering. Paris waved frantically in the air, forgetting she was still on the monkey bars.
"Let me guess, your going to say there are angels?" I flung upside down and shook my head full of curls
"Can't have demons without angels" I said not even believing myself
"YESSSS!" She said nearly falling off almost hitting her head again. "I met one and she told me......." I cut Paris's wild story right there.
"I have already heard many stories, but now you're just talking crazy Paris......!"
Paris, flew off the monkey bars, enraged but instead of landing on her knees she landed, on her stomach. In pain and frustrated she lashed out at me. "FINE! Just go then! I don't care anymore if you don't come back!!!"
"Fine be a scardey cat, I will just prove you wrong!"
I ran stomping into the ground, the wood chips, flew past my black rubber boots, I kicked some back. I looked back at Paris who was running after me. I kicked some wood chips at her, to slow her down.
I passed the swings, the slides, the tire swings, I passed all the play sets, as I was looking back Paris appeared farther and farther away turning into a tiny dot
As I was running the, playground sets disappeared, and tall grasses developed under my feet, huge trees, towered over me as I ran and passed it, dandelions were crushed under my tiny feet, and locust scraped past my knees.
The sun shined high in the air, I did hear crows scream at me from above. I kept laughing believing Paris was still following me, after a few more minutes, I halted. "OKAY PARIS, see know were........"
I looked around Paris was no where to be found. I was surrounded by silence, nothing but nature. I wasn't one to be worried, so I looked at the scenery. "So this is what the "spooky" forest with so many tales looks like........."
I looked behind me, side to side, and above. I can tell this place hasn't been touched by anyone, the scenery was breathtaking, wild flowers, rocks flowing with ants, massive trees covered in colorful fruits, and tall grasses filled with dewy water.
The forest shimmered and glistened as if everywhere was touched by the sun. The grass felt like rugs underneath my shoes, so fluffy and soft I thought to myself, pressing against it back and forth. I felt this place needed to be explored.
I walked around for a bit, touching the bark of each tree, and tracing my fingers along the grooves. My foot hit, against a brush filled with berries, they were a strange color, green, red and purple mixed together, I bent down to have a better look.
"OOOOooooo awwwwhhh" I looked at the colors, I was about to pick one up, when I felt a draft against my back. I quickly turned around to a find, a squirrel, gnawing on a nut.
I had a mischievous idea and slowly smiled. Let's see if I can catch a squirrel! I thought, as I was getting ready to leap, the squirrel was instantly startled and made a break for it. "OH NO YOU DON'T!"
I put my years of agility I learned from the background to the test. I began to run after the squirrel, but it was already, several feet ahead of me.
An odd draft of wind, slammed into my back, making me feel goosebumps, I instantly stopped chasing the squirrel, it pounced away as I frowned.
It's obvious that you will feel wind, flow past you, from time to time....... but this felt different, it felt as if something was tapping on my back. I turned around to nothing, just grass.
"It's just, "Paris's" wild imagination. I should still just get back anyways, recess should be nearly over" I thought to myself, still frowning.
