As I took a breath, Lilith sighed, " James, you're right. There's a lot of things we ignore, but we ignore it because if we don't, we'd go crazy. You mentioned cats earlier, why does it matter how a stray cat spends its day?". Her smile was comforting. " you're right, it doesn't matter, but just because how a cat spends its time isn't important, that doesnt mean the rest of the stuff I mentioned aren't important. There are some questions worth asking".
Jonathan put his chair near my desk. An awkward silence rolled around the class, but he didn't seem to care. " James, you're such an idiot". I tilted my head, " thank you?". He laughed, " when someone insults you, you're not supposed to say thank you!". When he finished, he sighed, " dude, I get where you're coming from. Nothing makes sense, but that's the great thing about life. It doesn't make sense, it doesn't have to. You just have to live it".

" Why are you telling me this?". He looked to the roof, " just because". Lilith and I raise an eyebrow, we say in unison " but you hate him/me".
He laughs outright, " what gave you that idea!". Lilith and I don't say a word, but he continues to laugh. Before he left he laughed, " there's beauty in chaos. There's chaos in order, and order in chaos. Basically, life's a mess. Don't let it get you down!".

He was right. She was right. They're all right. Life doesn't make sense, but it doesn't have to, all that matters is you live it without regret. I still don't know what that means but I think I'll be fine.
Before the bell rang, I stuttered, " Lilith, we should go on a d-d-date...". She raised an eyebrow, " what makes you think I want to?". I gawked at her silently, moments later, she laughed, " I'm joking, relax!". She pushed my arm away, " after school, meet me by the tree".

The rest of the day was complete ecstasy, I bubbly bounced from class to class ignoring everything. When the final bell rang, I rushed out of the building to my tree. She was patiently waiting for me. Her hair danced in the wind, her eyes fluttered, and her smile glowed, she was like a fairy fluttering in the wind.
I felt my heart skip a beat. She was beautiful. I wish this moment can last forever. I stumbled over to her, she kissed my cheek, " it's about time you finally asked me out". As we walked down the hill, snow fell from the heavens.

We walked across the bustling streets laughing over nothing. Her cheeks turned crimson, but it was probably because of the snow. Something about her smile seemed different. They were the same pearly white teeth they've always been, but when I looked at them, I could barely breathe.
The sidewalk had frozen over and I felt the world staring at us. If I were calmer, I probably wouldn't have slipped as much as I did. While she held me steady, she laughed beautifully.

This was hardly the first icy sidewalk we shared, but it was different. Everything felt different. Just this morning I had an existential crisis, but now, I'm falling head over heels for Lilith. Finally, when I fell to my butt, we reached the Diner. It was the local hot spot for teens, tweens, and young adults. It had a cliched neon sign hanging over the door welcoming up.
Lilith effortlessly pushed the door open and walked in, but I hesitated. I knew none of them were looking at me, but I was afraid. I felt my breath quicken and vision turn red. Lilith grabbed my arm, " James, are you okay?!". Why was she panicking? I could barely process what was happening. Before I realized it, I fell to the ground. Everyone was looking at me. They gathered around me, but I couldn't see their eyes. Finally, my eyes drifted onto Lilith. Her lips were moving, but I couldn't hear her. What was she saying? I felt an immense pressure press on me. With what little strength I had left, I wiped the tear from her eye. I tried to whisper, " don't cry", but everything turned black.
